  • I've been on the hunt for a tow rig and just a truck in general to do truck stuff with, when I came across a crazy deal on marketplace - this $500 2001 F150 5.4 Triton v8 which needs serious engine work.
The previous owner said there was head gasket issues that leaked coolant down into the catalytic converter. He started tearing down the engine and there it sat for many months. Why he stopped working on it, I have no idea. Is the motor in worse shape than I was lead to believe?
In this series, we're going to get this truck back on the road as affordably as possible, while still going for OEM parts as much as possible. I want this truck to be a rock solid daily and a workhorse for a long time to come. Plus, this year and model of truck has special significance to me.

OMG Yes, please! You can't own a truck in Florida without a good set of nuts.

So many 5.4 motors out there. Probably best to buy a rebuilt and send yours in for a core charge. While you have everything out, replace all the pumps, radiator and alternator. You will want to check the condition of the transmission fluid for sure. Flush the heater core to see what kind of goop comes out of it. That will at least let you know what the condition of the cooling system before the motor was torn apart.

Definitely, good idea. Gonna do as much as I can while it's out. More updates on the motor coming in a video in the near future

A bit late but the back windows are notorious for leaking with these trucks, the sun dry rots the seal very fast. I have an 03 King Ranch and it also has the window leak😬

Thanks! Haven't noticed that yet, but did reseal the rear glass since I'm 95% sure that was leaking

@@JJinMotion also a good thing if this is truck will tow a car around pr anything of similar weight you can swap the same year navigator/expedition front brakes for a cheaper front brake upgrade, the rotors are a bit bigger. I think you’ll have to swap control arms (maybe) but i know a couple guys in the Facebook groups have had some good experience with swapping them over
