Congradulations. You are the first person of 6 people to get me to understand sheet music. I thank you greatly!
It’s spelled congrajalatians actually

I ordered an alto c 12 hole recently, then ordered a soprano c 12 hole, then I ordered my daughter one, and now I just received 7 6 hole pendants in c and I’m obsessed. David’s videos is helping so much 💖🙏💖.
So you can play anything you want... within reason" So no playing Through The Fire and Flames on these?
I can't tell which side is which with the holes that aren't covered, so im always hitting the opposite side instead. Help plz?
Thank u sooooo much I've always been scared if sheet music but after watching ur lessons I'm feeling so confident. I got every question right and I will continue to practice every day so that I don't forget and hopefully soon I'll be able to play a wider range of songs. Thank u ur a great teacher u made learning sheet music super easy for me. I'm so happy
Rhian Chambers Thank you so much for your comment. I'm hoping to get back to tutorials starting in January, so check back then if you'd like to keep learning :D
What should I do if I want to play a song on a 4/6 hole ocarina and the sheet(music(?)) doesn't fit to my range(of C-C/E)? Sorry for that bad(?) english... ^-^"
Thank you for this quick lesson! I found my old ocarina and forgot how to play it, so I'm starting over! I have a 5-hole clay pendant, and it still sounds great after all this time. I'll be watching a lot more of your channel I think!
"Cheat sheet coming soon" it's been 6 years.
Hey All, even though this is an older video it really helped me to see the note to be able to read the music as well as play by ear. Thanks again David, you are a great teacher!
Thank you so so much! I've had my ocarina for like 5 years and didn't learn how to play the notes until today.
What if you have one of those Tenrai 8 hole pendants (not that I have one, but) - does that add notes above or below the scale?
Hi, I am really grateful for your tutorials they are really good.
I however had problems with the fingering given here, because one note didn't sound right. Only later when I watched the music theory part one video I realized why. My ocarina is tuned to G, which means I have to play F# instead of F.
Hey thanks I am grateful that you made this video. I now can help teach my friend how to play his 5 hole ocarina.
It can vary from maker to maker, so if the maker specifically tells you to open one thumb hole before the other, that's what you should do, lol.
thank you so much! Rhian was in the same position as me! I never really knew what notes where which untill now! I kind of already know, but I'd suggest doing a tutoral on how to read how long to hold the notes, like a quarter, half or whole or whatever.
It's the same fingering :)
I have a suggestion when I'm trying to learn the keys in the notes and which notes are what I draw a circle on the paper for each note and I even put two little dots at the bottom for my thumb holes. As far as which one to cover and which one not to. But can you do that on yours. Can you do a video to show us which thumb holes are being covered in which ones are not? I like the way you have the circles up there but can you add thumb holes also it'd be so much easier. Thank you. Love your videos you're teaching me a lot.
Are there any techniques for 6h that let go below C and above E?
If you have a 4 holed ocarina, you don't worry about anything past high C.
If you have a 6 holed ocarina, than with the notes shown here, from low C to high C the back two holes are covered. High D has the left thumb removed, and high E has both thumbs removed.
Hope That Helps!
rainynight02 Hi I know this comment is three years old but I'm a beginner and I am confused. In his later video (ear training part 1) he shows the high D as removing the right thumb instead of left like in this video. they're both 6 hole C Ocarinas. why is it different? which one is correct? Thanks in advance :)
I would love to keep learning I was hoping ud do some more videos I can't wait. The only thing so far that I'm struggling with is understanding the sharps and flats I think I'm starting to get it tho, starting lol
If you have a Tenrai, it comes with a book that shows you the extra notes.
I'm pretty sure that with this, if it doesn't show it, than you keep it covered, as in, when it was needed to be uncovered he mentioned it. So i would assume other wise keep it covered for all the others.
It's not, unless you have a Double or Triple ocarina.
Extremely helpful
I could really use the cheat sheet ? :(
Daniel Rasmussen it's been 5 years he is not gonna post it
Please do more videos for the English Pendant please!!!!
What for song is the most easyest to play on a ocarina 6 hole for beginners ???
Can u provide a verbal description of what u r doing to get each note, please? I m totally blind so i cannot c your finger positions. I just got a 6 hole sweet potato from Songbird and i can’t wait to play oit! :)
Hey David, I was wondering something. I've noticed that different sources for scales have differing instruction for getting the proper finger position on the highest notes, the high D and E.
For instance, you said here that you lift the left thumb first for D, then both for E. Others say to do the opposite, lift your right thumb first for D, then both for E? Why is that? Does that order even matter? Just curious.
Thanks so much for making these videos. They're incredibly helpful resources.
I'm confused does the black. Mean it's covered or uncovered. Because when you add the film holes they're not black I don't get it
i dont have a 7 hole but im just asking how is the fingering position for it? i know it must be hard to learn
Im confused. Are the postions based on how you see the instrument as its being played? For example if I hold the 6 hole Ocarina and I go to play note "D" its the bottom right hole that should be uncovered, correct?
I really wish you had spoken the fingerings out and maybe played the note also. I'm blind, so the I need someone to speak the fingerings out using the square numbers, clockwise from upper left, which I have seen some do. I'm trying to learn my six-hole ocarina but can't find a a fingering chart accessible to me or description of the fingerings.
Sorry about that. This is one of my older tutorials and I try to be more mindful in the tutorials I make today where I do speak the fingerings. I’ll make it a point to remake this video in the near future with that in mind.
@@DavidErickRamos thank you so much for replying so quickly! I am warning that my six-whole ocarina is in the key of D. I am trying to figure out how to play traditional music with that. I've actually never seen an instrument in the key of D! I really appreciate your willingness and I'll have to take your channel for the newer videos. I didn't realize how old this one is!
are you going to post the cheat sheet soon?
I have one wooden 4 holes ocarina. The last two high notes, B and C, do not sound. The others sounds fine. I don't undestand why this hapens. Somebody can help me?
Hi I have a four hole bird ocarina will that work????
It depends 🤔 If all four holes are the same size, that’s a different tuning, but if each hole is a different size, then it should work.
I don't understand the concept of notes, please help. I never took a music class and I don't even understand how to hold my ocarina, it's a bit harder for me to learn any instrument because of my extra finger but I always wanted to learn this one. Anways I don't know how to hold it or how to read notes or even what the notes are, please help. I have a six holed ocarina.
+Danielle Wise Well, I'm just a beginner myself, but the way I hold my six-holed ocarina is by using my pinkies and sometimes my ring fingers to support the ocarina when playing higher notes. To play the highest two notes, I just sort of slide/move my thumbs over a bit so that it's not wobbly. One thing I definitely know is to hold it with your fingers slightly curled (think magical little elf :D), and try not to use a vice-like grip.
I hope this helps (unless of course you've already gotten the hang of it by now :)!
Dose this apply to Peruvian ocarinas too?
I’ve just order a 6-Hole Soprano Ocarina
hey David my ocarina is really different when i put the fingering as you say it doesnt work really if you want to see i really dont know whts the matter with it but when i put another fingering it works the thing i cant do is play some zelda songs too bad .......
I am always confused. Does black mean that you are covering the hole or not? Different sites say different things. Either way when I do it it never works. Can you give me any tips?
Usually the black holes are the ones you cover with your fingers.
You’re probably covering the place where the sound comes out
quick question. with the finger position example which side is right and which is left?
thank you sooooooo much!
I'm having trouble with mine, for some reason the sounds I'm producing don't sound very crisp. I think I'm blowing into it wrong...please any advice?
For some reason my six hole Ocarina can't play E (all up) And it's bodering me. Does someone have a reason why? In the papers for the Ocarina it said that note could be played but it just sounds like air...
Can you play sharps/flats on a 6 whole ocarina? I would love to know. Sometimes I find that slightly different fingerings can bring out sounds that would be inbetween... (My 6 hole is a baby dragontooth, tuned in G. Just so you know)
hmm, I am confused going up you do not cover b but doing down you go over b and its the same as A. could some one help me?
nvm i got it!
David, QUESTION! If I have a four hole does that mean I can't play songs with the two highest notes I am missing or can I substitute them with something?
Hi Taylor! 4 holes only have the range of an octave, so you would have to transpose down (ex: if the song requires an high D, you would play a low D instead)
thank you
yes
i have a
baby Dragon Tooth Ocarina Metallic Lustre from songbird
key g-b
is it the same or not
Then what are the half hole?? I have seen some songs that have the half hole?? Plis tell me if u know 🥺🥳🥳
does anyone know where i can get sheet music for 6 hole alto ocarina?
wheres the cheatsheet it has been 11 years
how do yow blow into the ocarina correctly
Oh dear, my ocarina is non-standard... haha. One of the thumb holes is very large and the other is so small that it doesn't seem to even shift the pitch a half step. Oh well. It's a handmade one from a ren faire
Hi, i'd like to know if gettin' a tenor g ocarina (ongbird's seedpot ocarina) and following this tutorial could change something (Do the notes change position)?
Can you explain how to play a anime song like alones from bleach ?
I wanna learn to play a song on my ocarina teardrop 6 hole alto C
thank you! I was wondering, mine is the six hole transverse from songbirdocarinas, does the fingering work for mine or is the fingering different?
in E.. you hvae no fingers in on at all o-o.......i dont get the thumbs
woo, nice!
Mine doesn't sound like this. Your bottom note is a D for me. Does anyone know why?
Me too! It's because your ocarina is tuned to d
Welp, good thing I found my own set of notes.
where's the cheat sheet?
what do I do if I have a 7 hole sweet potato?
Search for another videos...
I've just started practicing with my ocarina, but i've noticed that there are more finger positions/combinations than whats shown here. And as far as I can tell they each produce a different sound. So i wasn't sure if those combinations corresponded with other/different notes. It would just seem weird to me if the only notes in every ocarina song were the ones shown here.
I apologize if this has already been answered/addressed!
(I have a four holed pendent ocarina from songstone)
*freestyles after the last note*
Dude, it's been 2 years.... where is the cheat sheet? Seriously bro.

I gotta say it. ''Fingering''
