Thanks Mike for doing this video I want 1 and have talked to hillco but I needed to know how hard it was to clean. keep the vidoes coming really enjoy them. Have a blessed week
Mike, since you did such a nice job on yours I let you clean mine and my dishes. LOL Cleaning mine is on the list of things to do soon. I have the Hillco 800E and I hope it cleans as easy as your big boy.
Would have been nice to have seen this before I purchased the UltraMax. Not that it would have changed anything. I've had my UltraMax for 2 weeks now and it will be 9 months before I can use it. 🙃 Thanks for the recommendation Mike.
You’ll love it David when you do get to use it. I think you made a great choice for the price and value compared to others. I’ve got an expensive one and the HillCo and I have to say, while there are a couple items that the Maxant might be better on, the electric drive and reel on the UltraMax by far out perform the Maxant.
Mike, I've got to figure out a solution for spinning deep frames. I don't like the way the frames don't balance on the bottom of the cage. I got me a HF grease gun too. After draining for several days I'll put a 5 gallon bucket under the gate and hose it out w/ cold water. Maybe I'll wait for a sunny day so the 200 ft of hose sitting in the sun will heat the water.
I have the Hillco 880E 16/8 frame extractor. As much as I love it, when I ordered it I should have listened to John and waited for the Ultramax model. It does have some great features that are big improvements over the 880E. So folks, if you order equipment from Hillco and John makes a suggestion/recommendation, I suggest you listen to him!
Yep, John's good people and interested in his customers. Were you the viewer telling me about the disassembly? It was about the different parts to remove, but then I figured it out, it had to be n the old one.
@@MikeBarryBees No, that wasn't me about the disassembly. Mike, my wife if from NO and her folks are buried in Covington. We make it over now and the to put flowers out. Next time, if the opportunity presents itself, I would love to visit and meet you in person. But before we get back to SE Louisiana I'll be attending the Hive Life conference in January, so maybe I'll get to meet you there.
@@gradystanley5163 yep, we can do that, and even meet I at the Abbey with Mr. Ed as well. We can all do lunch or something. But Lord willing, I will see you at Hive Life.
@@MikeBarryBees I hope to meet Mr. Ed as well one day. He and my father--in-law seem to have much in common. My father-in-law was also known to everyone as Mr.Ed. He was a real cut-up and joker. He was a retired postal worker from NO and after retirement became a cabinet maker. He just never became a beekeeper.
Is your hot water heater gas or electric? I’ve been looking at both and electric would be more convenient, but wow do they draw a lot of electricity! I’ve got a 200 amp service installed and an electric tankless would eat over 100 amps when it was running.
Nathan, it’s electric. It on demand, so it only draws when the water is on. It’s on a 60amp breaker and I forget what the actual draw is, but obviously less than 60. If you have gas available, it’s way more efficient, and even a small LP tank isn’t hard to have nearby, but then it has to be changed out and filled, so I went with electrons....
@@MikeBarryBees Thanks. I've been thinking the same. I've got electric already there, and it doesn't have to be refilled. To do propane I'd have to use 100 lb cylinders because I don't have a big tank put in, and too far out in the boonies for natural gas. Electric would be a lot more convenient, but gas more efficient and hotter.
I’ve watched his presentations that he’s done both in person and his video, and he is a wealth of knowledge for sure on building and setting up a honey house operation. I’ve been to his place several times and talk about a nice build and he’s learned the hard way over the buildings he built. This setup I have is pretty straight forward and easy to manage for wax and any buildup. I am very careful and the drain is built so that the clean out is thorough on the wax and any other debris. I remember one thing that stuck out to me in Bob’s presentation was honey in a septic. With its antiseptic properties, it was killing the beneficial bacteria that keeps out septics clean and running....wow, that was one of those light bulb moments for me. Makes perfect sense, but in a honey house, there’s a lot of honey that slowly goes through that system. Thanks for the comment Phillip!!
@@MikeBarryBees I had forgotten about the impact on the septic system. Thank answering. Did you get the honey I left for you with Mr. Ed? I am thinking about attending Kamon's event in January. If I do I hope to meet you in person.
Mike, I use my battery powered blower and blow all water out the drain, all the little drops and blow it dry so I don’t have to wipe the inside down to dry it. Am I lazy or what?
Hmm great idea Don!! Lazy? I'd say absolutely not! The old saying is work smarter, not harder, and the older we get, the more we understand that and use the wisdom God has given us.
Informative. I just purchased the minimax extractor. It cleans up just as simple. Did I see a Hillco 5 gallon filter/bottling tank behind you at the beginning of your video? If so, how do you like it? Does it work well?
Kevin, I like it well for what I use it for. It’s considered a bottling tank, so what’s nice about it is if you drain honey into it, it’s ready to come out with no strainer and into a bottle since the strainers are inside it. Now it does take some time once the initial honey comes out of the ‘strained’ compartment of the tank. It has to restrain thru the smaller screen before more is ready, so it can be slow. Or that screen can be removed and just the course screen used. But what I think is better, is you keep on filling it before it’s empty. Or another thing that was nice was letting it set overnight and then it drains even faster. It’s better than draining into a bucket with a gate and then having to strain that honey into another. I like it a lot, but I use it to keep my buckets rotating under the extractor, so as I fill it, I drain some and then put it back under and top it off.
As usual I enjoyed the video; it's your enthusiasm that keeps you listening and wanting more plus sharing your experience, thanks again Mike.🐝😎
Thanks so much Gregory!!
Great Video Mike.... Thanks for the ECP Shout Out
Thanks Chris, more to come if I ever get to doing the honey and sticker vide.

Awesome video Mike! Thanks for the great information.
Thanks Natalee!
Looks like a simple design and great working extraction device 😆 customize with the stickers and your all set
Yep, the stickers are coming. And yours, well, I gotta say, I had a great chuckle from the customized one!!
That's one nice extractor!! Thanks Mike!!
Thanks Rodney, I do like it!!
Thanks for the demo can’t wait to try our new 18/9 ultra max with our upcoming Brazilian Pepperberry honey next month ! Enjoy your videos !!
Thanks Terry and you're welcome. I know you like it a lot.
You hit the easy button on that Hillco extractor Mike. Easy clean and easy lube. Good design. Thanks and God bless.
Thanks Garry and I agree...Easy button all the way with this unit!!
Got one of these a couple weeks back, can't wait to use it this weekend!!
I really, really like this extractor and I think you will too!!
Great video Mike. Good to see how easy it is to clean this extractor.
Thanks Bruce!!
I reassemble the entire extractor and then place a large trash bag over the entire extractor... helps keep the spiders out while in winter storage!
I hate spiders. Not afraid of them, just hate how they get everywhere! Fortunately they're under control in the shed, but outside, it's crazy!!

Looks fairly easy. I'll need to do this after the Fall Harvest. .
Yea, you just don't seem to stop getting honey. I need me some of those season long bee you got....Well, maybe not, I'm wore out on the honey...LOL!!

Yes indeed!! Thanks for watching!!
Thank you for sharing this video. We have the exact same model, just got it this year and we LOVE it! ❤️ Super easy to clean, just as you have shown.
It truly is a nice piece of equipment. I really appreciate the comment!!
Cannot get any simpler than that! ✌🏻
I agree Mark. Very easy. My Maxant isn't hard mind you, just more bolts and pieces. This HillCo was two nuts and you're done.
Great video! You can wash dishes w Dawn?! Holy smokes!!! I enjoy your humor;)
Great tip on the tankless heater!

That’s I thing I don’t understand, why most extractors has the motor on top of the spinner? Only some get it wright
This one is definitely easy to work with in how it’s mounted.
