  • Trellis could cost upto $30 per piece. I made two trellis for $7.50. These Trellises are very easy and cheap to make. They are sturdy and would not topple over. Plus these trellis fir inside a 4 foot wide raised bed and are high enough to provide a lot for space for plants to climb.

    Thanks for taking the time to build and tell Jag. I built my own trellis this weekend following your specs. I made some adjustments; I used 5 boards instead of 4 since my bed is wider, and used "L" brackets to brace the cross-bars and give the trellis more strength. It came out great, I wish I could upload some pics.

    First of all, great job. I am going to do this for my sweet potatoes. A couple of suggestions. Wood is weakest in longitudinal shear so putting fasteners into the end grain is not recommended. I would recommend triangular plywood corners at the top. You can fasten the two pieces together and get sway bracing at the same time. With a jig saw or router, you could even cut an arch shaped piece for the corner. That would look nice. Takes a little more time.
    Also, at 2:20, you are putting a screw into the end grain of that horizontal piece. Instead, bring that horizontal piece over on the side of the upright and put the screw into side grain of the upright. That will hold much better. Thank you for listening.

    • @madvinmryk
      @madvinmryk 11 місяців тому +1

      Yes, end grain is notoriously weak for holding screws. You can also do this: drill holes for dowels perpendicularly to where the screws will go into the end grain, glue in the dowels and then drill pilot holes to insert the screws. This will give the proper wood grain direction for the screws to bite into, without having to overlap the wood pieces and then add triangular corners as well..
