I agree. This is the version I listen to when I want to hear this tune. Ian's voice has his full range, Jon Lord knew that sometimes less is more and the clear ringing of Steve's guitar give it a haunting quality that mixes so well with the lyrics to this classic blues song. 2017 is the last live tour for this legendary band. I grew up listening to rock during the time when this band was founded and DP were pioneers in what they did.
The solo by Steve Morse always reminds me of an interview with Steve Vai when Vai was talking about Morse. He said that each note he plays is so clear and concise - "like he was ringing a bell".
As a guitarist, you know you've nailed it with the solo when Ian Gillan is playing air guitar beside you. One of my favorite blues tunes - with the harmonics and clear ringing of Steve's guitar. 2017 is the last live tour for Deep Purple. 50 years. Why do they still tour? Demand. They remain one of the highest-grossing acts in the world. Yes, they may have lost a step, but if you were in their shoes you would do it too. They still love to play.
If you're leaving, close the door I'm not expecting people, anymore Here me grieving, lying on the floor Whether I'm drunk or dead, I really ain't too sure I'm a blind man I'm a blind man And my world is pale When a blind man cries Lord, you know There ain't a sadder tale Had a friend once, in a room Had a good time, but it ended much too soon In a cold month, in that room We found a reason, for the things we had to do I'm a blind man I'm a blind man Now my room is cold When a blind man cries Lord, you know He feels it from his soul
From 4:23 to 5:24 that has to be the greatest guitar solo I have ever heard... I would love to see Steve Vai playing this song... amazing video thank you for posting
Dainese aldo.
Steve Vai said that Steve Morse was a big influence on him (high praise indeed). Vai said that each note sounded like "he was ringing a bell", because of the clarity and precise method by which he played and picked during solos. You can hear what Vai was talking about during the solo in this song. Both musicians are good friends and have worked on several projects together. It is never an argument of "who is best" between the great guitarists - that is left to the fans.
Steve Morse elevates this version to a up in the sky limits. What a great guitar player.
AYNEN MUAZZAM MÜTHİŞ TÜRKISH WRİTE.
I think this is the best performance of this song.
The most sad thing is they're leaving us one by one and nobody replaces them.

So true
Agreed nothing can replace Ian's vocal.
My favourite is however when the vocal if Ian and the guitar John really battle it out :-)
Cam Crysler copying is not replacing. We have enough cover bands already.
I first heard this song in middle school. Im 52 yrs now and its still one of the best songs ever.
What a marvelous version. Only Jon Lord could create such beauty with a keyboard.
so true mate
One of the most melodic and melancholic song from Deep Purple. Steve Morse, as usual, lifts us high up in the sky. He's a really a guitar hero.
Steve Morse and Richie Blackmore super guitarist
The solo by Steve Morse always reminds me of an interview with Steve Vai when Vai was talking about Morse. He said that each note he plays is so clear and concise - "like he was ringing a bell".
the opening solo reminds me of Vai's Whispering a prayer
I agree!
Still an unforgettable song. 💕💕💕 Music is magic it makes you feel alive. Thanks for the upload 😊
I cannot believe just how good Ian still sounds. He’s unreal
And the rest of the band , buddy 🤘

As a guitarist, you know you've nailed it with the solo when Ian Gillan is playing air guitar beside you. If you're leaving, close the door
I'm not expecting people, anymore
Here me grieving, lying on the floor
Whether I'm drunk or dead, I really ain't too sure
I'm a blind man
I'm a blind man
And my world is pale
When a blind man cries
Lord, you know
There ain't a sadder tale
Had a friend once, in a room
Had a good time, but it ended much too soon
In a cold month, in that room
We found a reason, for the things we had to do
I'm a blind man
I'm a blind man
Now my room is cold
When a blind man cries
Lord, you know
He feels it from his soul

I love the Steve's guitar solo on this version, especially the section from 5:20 - 5:25, just kills it.
Wow - what a fine guitar in this version! Quite worthy of his predecessor!

In these days there were ORGAN centered bands, with extremely good solo guitarists and high rated singers! I can say.
