Thanks for another good one, Tim. As you know, here in the South Island of NZ we a have a total of zero passenger rail services, apart from two once-daily (in season) expensive tourist trains. It's frustrating to see the wasted opportunity, while more money is spent on constructing (slowly and expensively) new roads, when rail would do the job so much better. It's good to see that other countries take rail seriously and, in most cases, are developing and expanding their coverage.
Hello Jim, I fully understand your frustration with New Zealand's railways, as a tourist it is impossible for me tour North or South Island by rail, a very bad reflection on New Zealand as a whole, most of the major tourist centres are no longer connected by passenger trains, although the tracks are there carrying freight. The Czech Republic is investing heavily in both its rail and tram networks, you can see it is paying off, public transport is well used and popular with the travelling public.
Hello, I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride, the driver gets the best view and it was nice of him to allow me to place a camera in the cab so that we can all enjoy the wonderful views usually only seen by the locomotive crew 😊.
Wow! Video games look so real now a days! But seriously, great video! Im only a few minutes into it, but I can say thank you for sharing this video! I would like to visit one day but being on Disability makes it difficult. Thats why i love videos like this --beautiful day, grumpy train, good people and conversation...a FANtastic experience! Keep safe and keep the videos coming!!
Hi, it's nice to know you enjoyed the video. I'm sorry to hear that your disability makes getting around difficult. UA-cam is a wonderful way to explore the world, I love watching the stuff other people share, they often go to places main stream media misses out. I enjoy visiting the Czech Republic, the people are friendly and the countryside is relaxing, I love seeing the meadows full of wild flowers and watching the brightly coloured butterfly's whilst I'm waiting to photograph the next train.
Hi Tim! I know this machine. It crossed the border on our route in Summerau. Very powerful V12 cylinder engine with 2 turbochargers and 1800 HP👍. Best regards from Hans and Cheers 🍻🇦🇹.
Hello Hans, the Grumpy diesels are popular with Czech and Slovakian railway enthusiasts. They are an icon of the sixties, nothing complicated, just pleasant to look at and they produce a wonderful sound. Enjoy your weekend and maybe a beer or two. All the best. Tim 🍺.

chuck from uk I was pleasantly surprised how clean the railway lines and surrounding area are in the whole video.Whoever runs the railways in Czech republic should be proud of the effort go into keeping it looking prestine, having recently see a video on the Indian Railways discusting is all i can say about the state of their railway network. Enjoyed the video,,thanks.....
Hello Chuck, I'm also from the UK. The governments in Czech, Slovakia and Hungary are all investing in their railways and it shows, the rail workers are proud of their trains and railways, although many of the trains are old, they are well looked after and new ones will soon replace them. This is a good time to visit those countries before modernisation sweeps all the old trains away and many of the routes are being upgraded to modern twin track, electrified railways. My next trip is trip India !!!
Hi Tim, What i like about the Czech republic rail system it's seems to cover a lot of the country & it looks in really good shape, Nice pictures, beautiful country cheers Bob.👍👍👍👍💯🐨🦐🦞😋
Hi Bob, Czech is putting a lot of planning and money into its public transport, especially the railways and city tram systems. They also invest sensibly, keeping older trains in good repair and running them until they are life expired, replacing them only when it is sensible to do so which in turn makes life interesting for rail enthusiasts. We will visit some little used lines in the Czech countryside over the coming months, they don't rip them up as soon as passenger trains stop running, they are left in place to cater for seasonal freight and occasional special trains. The Czech government should be congratulated for their positive approach, it's much cheaper to leave a line in place with minimal maintenance than it is to rip it up only to realise that the route is still viable many years later. Here in the UK reopening closed railways comes with a crippling price tag, Cheers 🍺🍺😊.
@@robertcoleman4861 With hindsight closing the Great Central Railway was a massive mistake, it was built to the continental loading gauge on a 140 mph alignment for much of it's route and it served town centre stations, what is the point of a £ multi billion, 186 mph railway that delivers passengers a bus or taxi ride away from where they want to be.. The HS3 debacle could have been avoided with Billions of £'s saved if only the rails had been left in place.
