Andy Serkis is so so good, I just love the new films. Those 3 films are so well done, and War for the Planet of the Apes deserved to be a much much bigger hit than it was., just visually stunning. The first 2001 reboot before that though was kind of a dud wasn't it haha, totally agree. I've only seen the first one on the original 60's/70's films, which is an all time classic, but you have me interested in seeing the others now. Great video James, I really enjoyed this one! Take Care - the other James

Thanks mate. I completely agree. The new 3 are masterpieces that's for sure. The originals are worth a watch. The first 2 are really good. But the new ones are the best

It’s the damndest thing about War’s diminishing returns. Both Rise and Dawn were huge hits, and it just statistically made no sense that War fell off so abruptly-especially because it was universally beloved by critics and audiences. You just never know.

    1. Planet of the Apes (1968)
    2. War for the Planet of the Apes
    3. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
    4. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
    5. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
    6. Battle for the Planet of the Apes
    7. Beneath the Planet of the Apes
    8. Escape from the Planet of the Apes
    9. Planet of the Apes (Burton)
Top 7 are all good. Escape is ok but I like that it’s so campy.
    Burtons film is an atrocity.

Great video! Personally, i would rather watch any Apes film other than Burton’s... and Battle is a HUGE pile of shit. I dunno if your Blu came with the original cut of Conquest with the “downer” ending, but that for me puts it high on the list. The movie has balls. The original is still my favorite of all time. Hope to see more franchise rankings!

My first memory of Apes is the fourth of the originals. Love the first 2 of those and the first and third of the new ones. I ignore the Wahlberg one!!

I like DAWN best of the new series. Did not like WAR.
Actually, in ESCAPE they do kind of explain how they managed to escape (whether or not someone finds it "plausible" is another matter, though for the sake of the enjoyment of the film, we must go with it). Of course ESCAPE will seem dated now; it was filmed in the early 1970s, and if the apes HAD, in fact, landed back on Earth in 1973, this would be how the early '70s would be! (Does anyone fault BACK TO THE FUTURE for the 1950's seeming old and dated? No, I thought not). When I was a child, ESCAPE was my least favorite simply because there were not enough apes in it (tee hee).. however, as an adult I now realize that it's probably the second best because cinematically it has a great story, and characters we care about, with a good heart and a lot of charm (though naturally, these days people only care about loud explosions and lotsa action, and sod the "story and character development"). Also, both Roddy McDowall and Kim Hunter are both magnificent in giving such emotional depth to their characters through the limitations of that fantastic makeup. (No CGI capture fakery there).
Amazing to me that with CONQUEST you don't even mention the fantastic acting performance by Roddy McDowall as Caesar (the first Caesar - and the real Caesar). (And for that matter, with the first 3 original movies you don't ever mention Kim Hunter's marvelous Zira character at all, nor her endearing performances!). Hell, you even give a nod to Woody Harrelson at one point in this video, but not Roddy McDowall, ha ha.. :) .. But CONQUEST certainly does not drag.. it moves nicely at barely only 90 minutes.. and definitely has a plot, a place to go, and a coherently developed story narrative. You talked about Andy Serkis' anger in RISE... well, how about Roddy's anger and hatred here?
You really have no clue when you say that there is a "stupid" thing that "makes no sense" in the original PLANET OF THE APES.. you say you don't know how "that guy" (couldn't you mention Charlton Heston, or his character, "Taylor"?) lost his voice? - He was shot in the throat! It's referenced throughout the entire movie! Are you sure you even watched it?
All I can say is I'm glad I grew up in the '70s. :-)
