Sleepy Hollow is my absolute favorite Tim Burton film. It is a very romantic film in the original sense of the word, like Gothic novels or the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm.
I've always enjoyed Burton even when the Internet poked fun at him. One of my personal favorite directors because I enjoy his quirky, weird Goth style that feels distinct for him. My Top 3 are Ed Wood, Big Fish, and Edward Scissorhands, but I think his most underrated is Sweeney Todd.

Edward Scissorhands, on rewatch, is really so much better than I remembered. I watched it with a bunch of friends a few years ago, and it was an absolute joy.
How do you not mention Albert Finney in Big Fish? He's the anchor of that movie. (Which is probably my favorite of Burton's, but I'm fine with what you did).

I kinda disagree with the ranking. Movie remakes shouldn't be judged on how good they match with the original. We wouldn't need remakes then. Alice in Wonderland for example: Tim Burton made a movie, with his own style. It's not comparable with the original story.

Geez, Corpse Bride and Alice In Wonderland ranked under Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and Dark Shadows? Really? Corpse Bride is a wonderful movie, and Alice In Wonderland may not be one of his best but is still much easier to sit through then Johnny Depp playing Wonka or Barnabas.
My third attempt at a "Film Ranker" video and what I've learned is that whoever ranks these quite often doesn't have his artistic sensibilities on straight. "Dark Shadows" OVER "Corpse Bride" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"? "Dark Shadows" is even worse than "Planet of the Apes". "Frankenweenie" bored both me and and my kids, who left the room before the film was half over. I may need to start my own channel...
With all due respect - "Sleepy Hallow" needs to be way, way higher! And the dark and depressing "Dumbo" lower. And come on, "Batman" at #6? That movie was an out-and-out box office and cultural phenomenon!
Liked Alice in Wonderland, maybe I did come in with low expectations but thought it was pretty good, enjoyable adaptation/update as well as in its own right.
Interestingly, you mention how you prefer the Oompa Loompa song in the '70s movie adaptation. Burton's adaptation is actually more book accurate - the songs they sing in Burton's movie are the ones they sing in the book. Also, I don't consider Burton's adaptation a remake - I consider it another adaptation of Roald Dahl's book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The '70s adaptation changed quite a bit from the book (Wonka yelling at Charlie doesn't happen in the book, Slugworth is just a minor character in the book who doesn't actually appear and is only mentioned by name, and the Fizzy Lifting Drinks scene doesn't happen in the book, although they are mentioned).

He is so great. There is a reason he was the first director I profiled on the channel. I have a spot in my heart for pretty much all of them, (maybe not Planet of the Apes).
Alice just isn't Alice in Wonderland. It robs the books of all their core elements and replaces it with pseudo-dark, adolescent boredom. It's a shame. Mia Wasikowska is a great actor who should have been given more to work with.

Honestly I’m not a big Tim Burton fan the only films of his I like are the two Batman films, Beetlejuice, Ed Wood and Big Fish. Also Planet of The Apes is not a good movie but I’d rather watch it over Alice in Wonderland or Charlie and The Chocolate Factory
That was Henry Selick. He directed Nightmare Before Christmas, which is often credited to Burton, who came up with the story and characters, & produced it. But Selick did the directing due to Burton being on post production on Batman Returns.
I don’t love this list but it’s pretty good only thing I seriously disagree with is corpse bride but other than that I felt the rankings were very fair
Many of the films near the bottom I really like. They are heavily flawed because of miscasting or an overemphasis of certain character traits, but still enjoyable. I do wish he would have moved away from Johnny Depp on occasion. He is the reason Sweeney Todd sucked and should have been lower. Dude can't sing. Nor can Rickman who is amazing in everything else. Small tweeks could make many of the weaker films great.

I love Mars Attacks and Sweeney Todd probably way more than they deserve, but yeah, Beetlejuice is great. I've seen it more than all his others combined, and I saw Sweeney twice in the theatre. I've never seen Big Fish or Pee Wee's Big Adventure, and I've no desire to see some of those remakes of his. And his Planet of the Apes is the biggest pile of crap ever and has one of the dumbest, more illogical twists I can recall from any film.
i agree mostly, but i'd put mars attack just behind Batman. And Big Fish was terrible. It had a decent premise, but it didn't deliver. The rest of the movies lower ranked are all pure garbage.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is such an appealing and funny flick with nice characters. One of my favorites from my childhood. Apart from being an impressive and distinctive book adaption by Tim Burton, something that usually doesn´t happen when other adaptation works are directed by him. It has marked an entire generation. That ancient movie, on the other hand, is just so problematic: the messy script with the story changes that didn´t go anywhere and those poor resources that just make it any worse. This flick only has to offer one memorable performance. Greetings from Brazil.

Geez, Corpse Bride and Alice In Wonderland ranked under Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and Dark Shadows? Really? Corpse Bride is a wonderful movie, and Alice In Wonderland may not be one of his best but is still much easier to sit through then Johnny Depp playing Wonka or Barnabas.

My third attempt at a "Film Ranker" video and what I've learned is that whoever ranks these quite often doesn't have his artistic sensibilities on straight. "Dark Shadows" OVER "Corpse Bride" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"? "Dark Shadows" is even worse than "Planet of the Apes". "Frankenweenie" bored both me and and my kids, who left the room before the film was half over. I may need to start my own channel...
10, 7, 6, 5, 1 were stories I worked on briefly.
With all due respect - "Sleepy Hallow" needs to be way, way higher! And the dark and depressing "Dumbo" lower. And come on, "Batman" at #6? That movie was an out-and-out box office and cultural phenomenon!

Liked Alice in Wonderland, maybe I did come in with low expectations but thought it was pretty good, enjoyable adaptation/update as well as in its own right.
Interestingly, you mention how you prefer the Oompa Loompa song in the '70s movie adaptation. Burton's adaptation is actually more book accurate - the songs they sing in Burton's movie are the ones they sing in the book. Also, I don't consider Burton's adaptation a remake - I consider it another adaptation of Roald Dahl's book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The '70s adaptation changed quite a bit from the book (Wonka yelling at Charlie doesn't happen in the book, Slugworth is just a minor character in the book who doesn't actually appear and is only mentioned by name, and the Fizzy Lifting Drinks scene doesn't happen in the book, although they are mentioned).
I liked "The Corpse Bride" a lot. It would be unfortunate if someone decided not to watch it based on your severe personal opinion.

Alice just isn't Alice in Wonderland. It robs the books of all their core elements and replaces it with pseudo-dark, adolescent boredom. It's a shame. Mia Wasikowska is a great actor who should have been given more to work with.

Honestly I’m not a big Tim Burton fan the only films of his I like are the two Batman films, Beetlejuice, Ed Wood and Big Fish. Also Planet of The Apes is not a good movie but I’d rather watch it over Alice in Wonderland or Charlie and The Chocolate Factory

That was Henry Selick. He directed Nightmare Before Christmas, which is often credited to Burton, who came up with the story and characters, & produced it. But Selick did the directing due to Burton being on post production on Batman Returns.

Many of the films near the bottom I really like. They are heavily flawed because of miscasting or an overemphasis of certain character traits, but still enjoyable. I do wish he would have moved away from Johnny Depp on occasion. He is the reason Sweeney Todd sucked and should have been lower. Dude can't sing. Nor can Rickman who is amazing in everything else. Small tweeks could make many of the weaker films great.

I love Mars Attacks and Sweeney Todd probably way more than they deserve, but yeah, Beetlejuice is great. I've seen it more than all his others combined, and I saw Sweeney twice in the theatre. I've never seen Big Fish or Pee Wee's Big Adventure, and I've no desire to see some of those remakes of his. And his Planet of the Apes is the biggest pile of crap ever and has one of the dumbest, more illogical twists I can recall from any film.
i agree mostly, but i'd put mars attack just behind Batman. And Big Fish was terrible. It had a decent premise, but it didn't deliver. The rest of the movies lower ranked are all pure garbage.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is such an appealing and funny flick with nice characters.
One of my favorites from my childhood.
Apart from being an impressive and distinctive book adaption by Tim Burton, something that usually doesn´t happen when other adaptation works are directed by him.
It has marked an entire generation.
That ancient movie, on the other hand, is just so problematic: the messy script with the story changes that didn´t go anywhere and those poor resources that just make it any worse. This flick only has to offer one memorable performance.
