Interesting video. I went through this yard several times in the mid-80s after it was closed and got a lot of pictures from back then. Cool seeing how it was up and running!
Awesome video! I work on some of the track listed here. The whole yard is gone except Continental Building products which was Lafarge. All of the railroad buildings and towers are going from this video except CS cabin at the west end of silver grove. It was cool to see Newport for just a flash. I have one of the station signs.
Thanks for posting/sharing this .. my grandmother lived along the C&O main in West Virginia. Saw many, many trains thru that little town at Kanawha Falls.
I had relatives that use to be conductors and "Railman" that lived in Silver Grove that worked out of this yard. looks like there's a flash of Covington, Main Street, Then Cincinnati, where the UPS depot is, U can see all the old Brown trucks.
Amazing historical footage of C&O days long past. I really enjoyed the train crossing the Bridge at the B&O Warehouse from Cincinnati and through OB and Covington station. I've heard the B&O had street running trains on 3rd Street in Cincy, but all long gone now. I must say, when a railroad disappears, it really disappears. Where were all those tracks at 7:20, and was that Newport at 7:44?
The footage is somewhat out of order there. That is the approach to the CUT 'southeast' connection where they get on the #1 high line to CT Junction, then to MD Cabin and the C&O bridge
The Cincinnati Railroad Club just posted a slideshow of the Last Day on Cheviot Hill to their channel. They have also planned for Cheviot Hill to be the focus of their program at their April 2024 meeting. Their channel is @cincinnatirailroadclub
