    Niiice! So exciting. I just got some mother of thousands plantlets from a neighbor. I had them in water about two weeks, and they were really taking off. Just transplanted them to soil. Excited to see what happens!

    my grandmother is in the garden club in my county and she could tell you just about anything you wanted to know about this plant as she grows TONS of it lol. i dont really care much for it because of its invasive nature and the fact that it only blooms about every two years...according to her. that said i did enjoy the fact that my bloomed this year (not a real pretty bloom but was still cool to see it bloom) and i will enjoy growing it to sell at flea markets.

    I started with 2 of the plantlets 2 yrs ago and have grown to about foot and a half. I planted over a hundred plantlets from them and ran out of room in my yard. Easy to grow.

    Hello Diane! Thanks for this video. My SIL gave me a small MOT's plant at the end of June. It is now 6th generation leaves and babies all over the place. I'm beginning to think it's actually an invasive species, although they are just beautiful. I am almost obsessed with this plant. I have propagated to 12 other containers; given most away, brought rooted babies to friends, appointments, social visits! Oh, BYW, Kalanchoe is pronounced Ka-lanch'-o.

    • @dianemummvideos
      @dianemummvideos  7 місяців тому

      Yes I believe it would be invasive in the right areas... I no longer have this plant.. but it was fun to grow .. good luck!

      @@dianemummvideos To address your question "do the plantlets grow back once you remove them?", it seems like mine did begin to grow back but I didn't have the chance for the "second batch" removed from the mother plant. I am in South Louisiana and we had a bitter cold spell for a couple of weeks and yes, it gets bitter here, that absolutely froze my large ones; however, the babies that were embedded in the soil have begun to grow again. I now have about 10 container pots with multiple babies growing. Since Summer is around the corner, I will have more time to harvest and see if it regenerates more plantlets! I also will be able to propagate my Alligator Plant which will be my first ever. Thanks for the info Diane!

    I have some of these that Ive had for 50 years.... I even have 2 or 3 that look distinctly different from each other as the plants have changed over the years and generations.... I recall when I was young a story about some guy in san bernadino ca who was famous for developing like a dozen verieties of these and i do recall there being more around when I was young

    Lovely plants! I've noticed on mine that occasionally the leaves will re-grow plant-lets, though I don't know under what circumstances they will do that. If you take a leaf from them, like you would another type of succulent, that the leaf will start to grow plant-lets again. My kalanchoe is variegated, so unfortunately I can only propagate from seed and plant cuttings.

    i dont know if anyone haas answered your question about the plant producing mroe babies after you pick the first set off and i awas not sure what variety you wanted to know about...the Mother of Thousands i have no idea about but the alligator will live for about 2 yrs before it blooms then dies. and if im not mistaken the leaves will put on more babies (not sure if it would in the same season or not) but surely the following season it would make more.

    I live in the eastern southwest part of AZ, higher dessert around 4000 feet and have mine outside during but not when temps start dropping. It grows very fast - literally took off this summer and I'm in the process of trying to figure where to put it for this winter. I also have it propped with a chair since it is top heavy and has a couple of curves. Anyway it is and if was straight a good 6' and has been in the same pot for two seasons.Watching it I don't think the baby seem to reproduce in the same area or as much. Though I could be wrong. It a wonderful plant of interest and all seem to enjoy it. I liked the video and plan on checking your site out.

    if you are growing the alligator kalanchoe you need to stay on top of picking the baby growth off of the mother plant because (at least in my area...N.W. FL) they will TAKE OVER. they can be very invasive and produce many baby starts on the leaves. what you saw in this video was mild to what they can do. these plants can get up pretty high. i had one that was about 3.5 - 4 ft high and every one of the leaves can have anywhere from 20-30 or more beby growths. that being said frost will kill them.

  • @dianemummvideos
    @dianemummvideos  13 років тому

    @Allen2045 , are you above freezing temps?? we here in Iowa are usually safe after mothers day, but many start sooner.. cool crops work in colder temps, the peppers , tomato, melon crops like warm weather and ground temp before planting. So depending on your weather, you should go by that..

    I just got this plant (Mother of thousands) and I need some help please! I have had it for a month and some of the leaves are becoming very limp and yellow. There are many baby's on it and at the base of the leaves is new growth. Should I cut the leaves off and let the new growth come in? I am wondering if I am over watering it and also what kind of soil and size of pot. My mother in law passed away a month ago and she told my father in law to make sure I got this plant because she knew I loved it. It has a lot of meaning to me and I don't want to kill it. Thank you

      +Shawna Erickson , Is your Kalanchoe in the original soil as when you received it from mother inlaw? Its very important that succulents are in A cacti/succulent soil mix -ALSO do NOT over water - They only need watering once a week -Hope my answers aren't to late -I see this is an older video :) Can also look into some propagating techniques JUST incase something happens to your sentimental plant so to have it 4 EVER
