I'm glad you're explaining this because a lot of people think holding the midst mean something you're better off with no mitts than bad padeork

I know so many fighters that look great on the mitts and they look like crap when they fight
Some of the drills are good but they definitely don't make you a great fighter. In my opinion you already have the heart and your coach just pushes you skill-wise and mitts don't do anything that drastic knowledge can't do for you

I like you mentioned that mittwork is new because none of the Old School coaches ever did mitts and these kids nowadays act like they're getting abused if you don't do it with them

You’re making me laugh because that’s basically the reaction you get from fighters and new guys I like when you say you’re not doing mitts with them lol

I really appreciate my current coach's mitt work with me. He would often encourage me to feint him with shots and actually get him, add a body hook when I weave or change my last hook in a combination to a check hook or my right hand to a check right hand to take angles. He also randomly attacks me anytime after or during a combination and stops at any time to discuss my bad positioning choices. I really learned a lot and I think this is what mittwork should be. I do have an interesting observation tho: UK boxers mostly look kinda sloppy and awkward on pads while US boxers of the exact same calibre do much sharper on pads. Why is that?

Thanks for the information Coach V! I don’t box, even if I wanted to a back problem would make it to risky, but I have always been interested in the sport and would love to be able to learn everything possible without any hard sparring. I exercise for many reasons but weight-bearing exercises being the best way to keep bones strong is a big reason for me. I’m not sure if it’s possible but if you can show how to use mitt work to develop basic skills, both holding them and hitting them, I would appreciate that. If that is to complex to teach in a video I understand. Just courteous if that’s possible. I imagine it’s great for learning distance, timing, targeting, quickly identifying openings, etc. I would love to employ it, as long as it’s not developing bad habits. Thanks for the video. Best wishes to you and your family. ✌️🇺🇸
