Ironically, I both live in Spain and used their units on the thumbnail picture... Yet I forget them! 😂 As they have the same units as Portugal, they are of course just behind Portugal on this list for two reasons: 1. Bias, 2. Portuguese arquebusiers are vastly superior to the standard ones. Ps. Maybe I'll just leave out a faction each time I do a tier list to see if anyone notices! 😜
To be fair the Three Musketeers were in the 17th century, outside of the scope of the game. France may not have relied as much on arquebusiers as some other countries in the late Middle Ages, it was more about siege cannons to blast some annoying italian walls. Or maybe it's just balance as France has an already stacked roster.
@@vojemete it wasn't unheard of, at Formigny in 1450 the French used 2 cannons to outrange the English longbows. Forcing them to advance, where cavalry could cut them down. But indeed artillery only had a limited use as wasn't very mobile, horse-drawn artillery would wait until the 30YW. Fittingly, artillery in M2 has awful mobility. Reiters are 16th century so yes borderline for M2TW. While Louis XIII reigned 1610-1643, early 17th century.
Fun video! Poor Spain got left out of the tier list. To be fair it has the same gunpowder roster as Portugal, except Portugal get the portuguese arquebusiers wich are better than the generic arquebusiers other factions like Spain get, they are kinda just better handgunners since they have the same melee stats (with less armor but more defense skill) and a more modern gun.
Yes at the very least, Spain's position is obviously one marginal loss behind Portugal. The Portuguese arquebusiers are actually viable arquebusiers as they need melee with their short range.
As a veteran of online MP, this list was surprising for me for several reasons: - I didn't expect the rebels and therefore thought only Spain and the HRE would end up in S tier. This is funny because apart from early period Spain, both of them are meta defining factions in whatever set of rules and eras you play. In your standard 6/2 cav no art ele guns 15k all periods battles, Spain and the HRE are the single best factions in the game. Imo, Spain coming 2nd and the HRE 1st (Deutschritter + Reichsritter > mounted and dismounted Conquistadores. Cav is king and the HRE has the best cav in the game by far). - Muskets are not S tier by default. They are so OP that every game which allows muskets usually leads to a musket shootout. Their range is so superior that no cav can really touch them and if you lack them yourself, your army is dead before you even touch the opponent. - ...Spain is missing lol
Haha. Well I got HRE as top so that much checks out. Spain are only behind Timurids and Portugal (and rebels) by this list's 'logic' so I'm not a world away. I never played the online MP so it is interesting to hear your points; which make total sense.
Camel Gunners beat all other gunpowder units with mobility and range. They are 19th century breechloading soldiers on camels. They don't need formation attack, they have musketeers range and they are fast.
I love Venice’s gunpowder & late period armies. Cmon their late period Navy and Army is at least top 5 if not top 3. Like my love for this faction is unmatched as Spain, Portugal, The Holy Roman Empire, Milan, France, the Seljuk/Ottoman Turks, England and Denmark also share a special place in my heart as well. Something about Venice’s army and Navy on M2TW alway wow me. My late armies of the Venetian Republic always consist of Pike militia, Venetian Heavy Infantry, Pavise Crossbowmen, Venetian Archers (I just love composite bows ❤), Stradiots!! Broken Lances( Love that late period Advanced Italian grade plate Armor!! And my most beloved Mounted Crossbowmen. My Arty pounding enemy lines and city walls with Culverins, Mortars and Monster Rebault guns. Yeah Venice that beast nobody wants a piece of and of course my Naval Fleet is Carraks and Galleasses with my War Galleys employed for guarding trade routes and trade focal points in the Mediterranean Sea 🌊!!!!

@@ToNerdistoHumanTNH Thank you, I tried fighting a Greek campaign, where I don't fight very quickly, and ended up taking on ten onslaughts of Egyptians a turn for about 2/3 years. In short, I wanted to make it even worse, lol

Oh absolutely! But including DLC's was going to complicate this too much so base game it remained. They are all discussed in the gunpowder guide video though!
The best thing about gun cavalry is they are allowed to shoot through their unit. I know its not realistic but its the primary reason gun infantry can be worse than other ranged units
They don't shoot through, they shoot over. If you place an elephant in front, they will get hit. You need to keep the camel riders right behind the infantry on a slope so as to not hit your own. No calvary on slope in front.
@@EccentricNarwhale they might disable it when you have an opposit slope but you might just be getting blocked by the hill. I did some testing on this and it is why guns specifically benefit from horses. Foot guns are the only ranged unit that cant shoot through (or over) their own unit
@jeice13 no, there is a zone where your units get hit by the gunfire from the camels. Feel free to run a spacing test in front of the camels against a non ranged unit. It's not a lot of damage/hits but it's there. The gun can't arch over like the arrow projectiles. The spawn point of the bullet is just located high on the camel allowing you to shoot over them, they still can't arch.
@jeice13 disregard me. I get what you are saying. The camel is elevated to short over but bullets can pass through the unit in front to hit the enemy on mounted gunners. That is interesting, I did not know that.
@@EccentricNarwhale when i tried it out before it worked on flat ground even against infantry which are shorter than them. I dont think most ranged can actually damage there own unit with shooting they simply choose not to fire when blocked
gunpowder infantry always underpreforms in med2 and its mods so while playing vanilla kingdoms mod i edited them to shoot two bullet instead of one and it actually works perfectly. on flat terrain they kill every unit they see but on uneven ground they suck and archers still preforms better against unarmored units.
I was with you until the end. Timurids are way better than HRE for gunpowder. Also the Portguese version of the arquibusier is unreal on wall defense, more powerful gun with armor and melee strength. In my opinion: The camel riders up the moors to A. France and Hungary should be B. You love them cannons more than me. I love the mounted guns and musketeers. You can create the meanest open battlefield pincer of destruction with them. Thats why they dont let you have the musketeers with mounted guns. The turks and russian archers with musketeers though....
We must to admit that the elephants with gunpowder are seriuosly OP, but what surprise me is see the Holy Roman Empire as top one. With zweihanders and reiters they have a few excellent late era specialised units, but they lack professional troops. This unit type refers to cost-effective non-elite units that can punch above their weight when supported properly, such as voulgiers or pikemen. They only have armoured sergeants and militias and are heavily reliant on mercenaries such as landsknechts for their late era battleline.
