At the end, I'm pretty sure Eddie accidentally hits Jeff in the back of the head with the mic, while giving it the ole mic twirl..... you can even hear the thump on the speaker
I remember first seeing them in 91 too. Went to see the RHCP, PJ, and Smashing Pumpkins. I recall seeing all the mercy and ‘Ten’ and I kept thinking what band is this? Pearl Jam opened, followed by Smashing Pumpkins, then the Chili Peppers. Incredible show all around.
I also saw them live in summer of 1992, Eddie didnt pull off anything like that but the crowd at the amphitheater was just nuts. To look back at that as they were blowing up from the release of their album 10 is a memory i will always cherish as one of the best shows ever
Yeah, that "stage" dive is pretty crazy. There's a 20+ minute compilation of Eddie climbing stuff during the guitar solo of this song that is even crazier. Even though I know how every climb turns out...he's alive and well today at ~60 years-old...it's still hard to watch without feeling terrified for his safety.
This was fun to watch….I was in 8th grade during this time… Pearl Jam spoke for a generation of kids in a way that no other band had… not at the time and not since. It was raw. It was angry…yet, hopeful at the same time. Incredible time to come of age. Great reaction. Eddie Vedder forever ❤
The wah-wah pedal is an "expression" pedal. You can see Mike McCready using it at the near the beginning of the solo. His foot is on a pedal that can move up and down by rocking his foot, creating the "wah" sound.
@@healing344incorrect. The long lever is called a whammy bar, and it does a different thing entirely. When the whammy bar is pressed, it changes the tension on the strings which changes the pitch. The wah wah pedal changes the tone of the note without changing the note itself.
As far as energy and overall craziness, nothing beats this performance of Porch. However my personal preference as far as a lyrically powerful performance of this song is the MTV Unplugged version of Porch. It's unmatched in that area imo.
THERE IS A VIDEO ON UA-cam WITH ALL EDDIE JUMPS AND DIVING INTO THE CROWD. CHECK IT OUT! ALL HIS CLIMBING DURING "PORCH" . THAT WAS AN AWESOME REACTION!! PEARL JAM ARE MY FAVORITE BAND ON THIS CRAZY PLANET!! 😊💓🔥🤘✌️
Live 90s grunge at its best 🤘🏼 A lot of shows these days seem to be pretty tame...worried about lawsuits...being politically correct and not offending someone...that's all SO not rock n roll. Shit still does get a little wild sometimes, but it seems not like back in the day. The 90s were absolutely amazing. We need that energy to come back.
Saw them a few weeks ago (16th time) and they’ve toned it down a bit over the years lol, with them all being 60. But they still sound great, edgy, and exciting live.
I’m sure it’s been said before but the “wah wah” sound comes from an effects tone pedal the guitarist can push on. It’s called a “wah wah” pedal. So you’re dead on! Love you man!
I'm not a huge Pearl Jam fan they have a hand full of songs I REALLY like. And this is one of them. I rarely hear Pearl Jam fans mention this song so I'm pleasantly surprised to hear this as a recommendation from people who watch your channel. While this is cool I prefer the album version. This is sped up a lot. Which is not uncommon for a live performance. But for me you get a better feel for the dynamics in the song. Especially the build up when the vocals cut out and then come back in.
A couple of years ago Eddie Vedder told a funny story about this incident and the camera operator on that crane. Someone else linked it already, you should check it out. Also, maybe check out some of their more recent stuff. They just released a new album and it's really great, I've been a fan for over 30 years now and this new one is the best I've heard from them in quite a few years.
I love how Eddie tells a story... Eddie Vedder revisits his most famous stagedive 26 years later - Pinkpop 2018 ua-cam.com/video/pen5JlQjNjg/v-deo.html
CRAZY Good! :-D Ima one of those lucky ones who did see them live in '92 when I naively thought Music could Never be Bad from that point on. - BOY was I Wrong.
Yeah I was 19… these guys were overrated……The singer sang n sounded like his lips were wired together…..nah…….shitty music, except maybe 3 or 4 of their songs…..too commercialized for me…fake
Eddie said that they did crazy stuff in the beginning because they didn't think their careers would last that long: they wanted to enjoy the moment.
If you have not seen any Pearl Jam live before, then PLEASE check out Pearl Jam Unplugged, Black.
That was their “Finest Hour.”
He actually has reacted to that he must of forgot lol
At the end, I'm pretty sure Eddie accidentally hits Jeff in the back of the head with the mic, while giving it the ole mic twirl..... you can even hear the thump on the speaker
Saw them 2x in Vegas last month..still incredible. They are my fave band. My teen daughter got to experience live PJ for her first ever concert
But Eddy Vedder is widely considered to be one of the most energetic frontmen in music today. Stage dives like you saw were routine for him.
This last year was my 101st pearl jam show. First time i saw them was new years eve 91. A pearl jam show is a religious experience still to this day
So true

Incredible show all around.
Truly. A sing-a-long from beginning to end with the bands encouragement and enjoyment! Definitely a must see live if you can afford it nowadays.
He uses a Cry Baby Wah pedal to make that effect. Jimmy Hendrix used it masterfully.
Oooh yess amazing 😂 this is Perl Jam ❤

Great reaction video & analysis. Loved it. Thanks bud.
Brother I hope you make it out to a rock concert while you're young.
Amen!
Pearl Jam is still touring

As far as that guitar sound, Google “wah wah pedal.” A must-have for all serious guitarists.
The pedal can be on the ground or it’s the long lever on the guitar.

I love PJ!! I saw them live on their first tour out.. they are at the top of my list!! 🔥🔥🔥

wah wah pedal creates that cool sound... you use the pedal with your foot as you play

Master of the stage dive. Master of song writing. And a master lyricist. Doesnt get Eddie Vedder than this!
🙂🙂🙂
