I think it's crazy that people buy things they don't fully like just because they get ''offered'' it by Hermès. To me it's just obvious that if yu don't like a bag fully, you'll decline it, especially for that price.
I agree but the reality is, there’s a booming resale market where some of these bags command a 100% markup. I think some people take home bags they’re not sure about and then resell them for profit. A few people have asked me why I didn’t do that with this Kelly. But I knew this bag wasn’t meant to come home with me.
@@hellocatwalkcity i don't think red has a good resale for some reason i feel like the more neutral the bag is the better they do on the resale, like im looking at fashionphile right now with this kind of color scheme, id ont know but the bag on video appears really red, i mean me personally i dont have a red bag, i have a chanel vanity that is red but i don't use it as a bag i use it to store make up and its just on top of the vanity table, never worn it as a bag since its not very functional..its hit or miss, supposing you have bought it and resold it, it might sell for 15000 and you get the 70% fashionphile keeps 30% so its literally break even...how much is hermes selling this now???have a look at fashioinphile theres even one kelly taht is only 7,000$

People decline offers more than UA-cam makes us think. I declined offers and will continue to do so. Also, many of us do not want many quota bags, we prefer to wait for the ones we really really love. To me it’s not crazy and I’m not even surprised by the pre spending. The more I shop at Hermès, the more I understand how they just like having customers that appreciate the brand . They probably size the ones that hate everything but the Kelly’s and the Birkins. 😉
Absolutely, I agree. UA-cam may show all the shopping and unboxing but in “real life” I’m sure many people decline bag offers. In fact, any time you see an Hermes box being carried over without the plastic wrapping on it, I assume it was opened and declined by another client prior. It’s normal.
I think your classy attitude, buying only items you really love, makes you the kind of customer Hermes really wants, which is probably why you've been offered more bags without trying so hard.

thank you for this forthcoming info! so many people are elusive about it and like to tell others that their friend's sisters' cousin's daughter's dog "walked in and got offered a Birkin. it depends on how you connect with your SA" meanwhile they have strange items in their collection that suggest a pre-spend 🧐 then there are the people who say, "you know, you have to buy something to get ANY bag. dont go in thirsty for bags with no purchase history!" as if all bags are pre-spend, when they are not... the SA of a flagship store that was very good to me, was very direct and said what you said, offers are based on inventory and timing. I've been to smaller stores where the vibe is totally different and they dont want to tell you anything about the bags if you inquire. ive heard rumors it's because you're "competing for bags" with wealthy communities in the Bay Area or Socal, so the prospect of connecting with an SA seems hopeless. if you dont know about facts like how they get less inventory, it just feels like they dont like you and you'll never be in the club. I think those smaller stores are key in keeping the brand seeming exclusive, because it was a totally different welcoming experience in the flagship store, where we were invited to interact with all kinds of merchandise out of our own curiosity and not just because they expected us to buy it. the smaller stores were like "what do you want? we dont have it. what else? well I'm going to have to see. k bye" so curt =\ and I even wore my Hermes bag and a couple accessories to the last smaller store who treated me like that. I guess I need to stick to the big store lol
Absolutely! I agree, there’s a lot of misinformation out there and some people are unhappy so they complain and make horrid stories of how impossible everything is. It’s never just one variable - there’s timing, supply & demand, seasonality, SA relationship, SA’s own knowledge and experience (or lack thereof), and so on. Glad to have your POV on this. I also declined a offer ( mini Kelly in color magnolia ) from my SA few months ago 😂 I know…it sounds insane, but it’s just not my color palette and suit to my life style..it’s way too small in my opinion. Great video and information as always 🥰
That’s the right decision. My biggest problem with Hermes is that they have never offered me my first choice of the bag. They gave me something close but not exact. I shop at the Madison store too.

If you’re going to have to pre-spend to be offered a bag, it may be cheaper to pay the reseller premium. I guess it comes down to how important it is to get a new bag or get the boutique experience.
Absolutely. That’s why I always say it’s not worth buying stuff you don’t genuinely want just to get the prespend. That’s such a waste and can make us resentful. Hermes makes beautiful items (outside of their bags) and if you can’t find anything appealing, I agree, may be worth buying the bag you want on the resale market instead. 😉

A 3 week wait for an Evenlyn?!! This proves what a POS my local store is (DC Crystal city). I was put on a wait list for an Evelyn in February and haven't heard back since. And of course I never heard back when I asked for a Kelly. The SA just literally ghosted me. To clarify I am a repeat shopper at Hermes and have about $8k in purchase history.
I'm sorry. =( is the store a smaller boutique? I wasnt even asked to be put on a wait list when I went to a smaller store and tried to "connect with an SA." the SA was not interested, they told me the world has "a leather shortage and it's been that way since the beginning of the pandemic and we get occasional bags and they sell out quickly" with no further path to get a bag. but when I went to a flagship store the SA was like "we have them in these colors want to see?" and I was like is this a dream? she said as a flagship their inventory is better and I got there with perfect timing. If you have an SA and that much purchase history, you should be able to call and ask for inventory.. I'm told other people have SAs that will get stuff ordered from other stores for them. with the money you spend they can at least try that route if you are open to various colors. allegedly the neutral colors are super popular bc everyone wants black and brown bags, but if you're open to many colors, maybe they will work with you? I really hope you get yours. have your tried shopping the online bag drop? I think it's worth it to get the bag for retail price and Ive heard the bags dont count toward pre-spend anyway, so might as well get what you want online. best of luck, I know how hard it is to connect with an SA, they just seem like they dont care in some stores. =\

I walked in for the first time, asked about the Evelyne and they brought out several colors (just not the one I had wanted, so I decided to wait). At the time, I had zero purchase history other than Paris. It was interesting because the SA said that they “always have black Evelynes in stock” which I was surprised to hear. I was toying with the idea of getting the black one instead of waiting for the gold color, and that’s when she said that - probably so I didn’t feel pressured. Again this was 3 years ago though. I feel like a lot has changed.

They gave me a store credit for them. Then I bought rubber slides and they hurt me like hell. Then this - not hearing back after being put on a wait list. And every time I go the staff is new. One person stays the same and she never recognizes me. I guess I am not rich enough to be memorable. IDK. I asked for summer colors for the Evelyn - anything bright. And their store isn't that big, but it isn't tiny either.
That red kelly is beautiful, i honestly think hermes does color really well. Usually, hermes bags with a pop of color looks different in different lighting. I honestly think hermes colorful bags can still go with many different outfits and can also be used like an everyday bag with casual outfits. I think you should have gotten the bag. It looked great on you in the video.

I was offered the 24/24, but when my SA came back from the stock room, she said another SA just snagged it and offerred to another client. I said it was okay as I realky wanted a Kelly anyway. My SA told it's actually good that I didn't buy the 24/24 as I will probably have to wait longer for my dream Kelly if I took yhe 24/24. Anyway, please let me know if you were ever offered and buy your "perfect" Kelly later on as I would love to purchase your Kelly for myself. I personally love the Gris Meyer color and your Kelly is actually my "perfect" Kelly (size, color, hardware color, and style). I have made a request to my SA about this exact configuration ;)
I feel like we have similar taste in handbags and as soon as I saw the color I know it'd be a 'no thanks' lol! It's a pretty color but I'm not crazy about it...I think if it was in rose extreme, togo & PHW it would suit you a lot more. I've also declined 2 offers this year because of the color and hardware, my SA is totally cool with it and always tell me 'don't settle, I'll get you the dream bag!' 😊

Like you I did turned down 2 Kellys (because of size and color) and 1 Constance (because of color & hardware) and I have no regret. I was able to get a Berkin in the color and hardware that I really wanted which was offered to me by my very nice Sales Associate.
I completely agree the bright red colour isn’t in your palate (at least from what I have seen from your collection). Have you ever had colour analysis? I had it done recently and I can’t tell you how helpful it was for working out how to try new colours that suit you, without making expensive mistakes. Intensity / chroma / warmth of your underlying colouring will be an important in working out the perfect shade for you. Your collection is gorgeous as it is and I am sure your SA will offer you something else. He sounds like a great SA! The red would be too bright for me, I would feel very self conscious carrying it. I could do it in a calvi or something small

Loved hearing your thoughts and how you decided to leave without the bag. I think Hermes makes some lovely bags I wish I could own, but I struggle with the process. I just can't bring myself to spend thousands (10's of thousands) to get a bag if its not EXACTLY what I want. And I'm not interested in buying any Hermes items I don't really want or would love. I do have a watch (cape cod), a few scarfs, a lovely enamel bracelet (red with elephants - love love it and have worn it for years). BTW, Hermes says they have no history of these purchases - even at the boutique where I purchased them (!?!). So, I'm not going to pursue hard to get Hermes bags, even though I would want it have the money . The whole process seems like madness to me!

Constant is actually not a quota bag. Just FYI.😊 And usually only non leather goods are considered to be part of pre-spends, such as RTW ( including shoes), Fine Jewelry, house wares etc. 😊 However, I feel like different stores may have slightly different rules depending on their store managers. 😊 And no, not crazy at all to decline. I have declined many offers. 😂 As long as your SA knows you, then in my opinion, it will not lessen the chances of getting your wishlists. 😊

I did a whole video on this a while back, but since you already have experience shopping with Hermes in Short Hills, no biggie walking into any of the NYC stores! You can do it! There’s nothing special or different about each store in terms of meeting and chatting with an SA and asking for assistance. 😊

I personally would have liked the Kelly...EXCEPT it's far too small for my 5'11" frame. It would be a reverse sort of "playing dress-up" thing, and instead of the clothes, etc being too big, would be too small.

Oh yes! I try to imagine the person who bought that Kelly, and it makes me smile. I have a feeling it’ll be a really bright, bold person. 😊 As for the quality, I do think Hermes quality is impeccable BUT I also own other handbags that I feel are extremely well made and beautiful. It’s all a matter of preference. Hermes bags, as coveted as they might be, are not the only high quality bags out there. Let’s be real.
I love red bags but that one is too orangey for me. I definitely don’t see it as a color you would use very often so I think declining it was the right choice.
I live in San Diego, which has a tiny Hermès boutique. I think my chances of getting a quota bag is slim to none, especially since they never have anything in store that I want to do the pre spend. More often than not I walk away empty handed. I have yet to develop relationships with the SAs at any of the luxury boutiques. I’m okay with all of it. Less pressure to buy things. 😊
I decline a bag too cuz it’s not me, I got offered a K28 Nata sellier but 28 too big for me so I am not getting it. I have to get bag I love just not get it because I get offer and my SA really happy that I am not just get and resell. Way to go Dear!!

I don’t know how it is now but it wasn’t difficult to buy as a walk-in when I asked 3 years ago. They brought out several but I just had a specific color I wanted and decided to wait it out. I think generally the Evelyne should be easier to get. I hope you’ll be able to get yours in Italy! 🍀
I think it’s so ridiculous people actually have to be offered a bag ..to spend thousands of dollars and not get what you really want?? I get exactly what I want or don’t get it all for that amount of money. I honestly don’t see the big deal with these Hermes bags? I’d choose other brands over those any day. It’s all about being able to say they have them rather than actually loving them.
Wow! What a beauty bag you were offered. But the bright color is not your style, at least what we know from here on youtube. When stepping outside our colorwheel house, best to spend less on a bag, since it is probably a bag that we won't use or keep around for long. Love your sharing.
I don't understand why the SAs offer a bright colored bag to people that specifically only want neutral colors it sounds like a set up to me if you refuse the bag then get blacklisted from getting the bag you want -unbelievable

Yes indeed, the practices do seem to turn a lot of people away and that’s understandable. Unfortunately many have also been saying that Chanel is now limiting their classic bags to those VIP clients who spend in other categories first. Chanel SAs also do not receive commission on their Classic bags. Just as Hermes SAs do not receive commission on their quota bags. So this encourages SAs to try to make sales in other areas. As I’m sure you already know, Chanel started limiting the number of bags you can buy (max 2 classics per year I believe) at least in the US. So some are saying they are doing the same thing as Hermes except their bags are not handmade by one artisan as H bags are and the quality is questionable. 🤷🏻♀️ I actually really like Chanel aesthetics (my fave) and have been a longtime fan but there’s always so much noise/drama around the brand. 😅

I’ve spent just under 18K for 4 quota bags,3 from my local store and 1 fromParis. Plus 2 Evelyns which don’t count. Just do the math and be honest when sharing info.
Yes, as I mentioned, when I bought my Birkin, my spend was a bit below the 1:1 ratio. I’ve talked about this before and shared all the detailed history in previous videos. From what I understand, then the prespend technically resets for the next quota bag offer. Between my Birkin and Kelly purchases, I didn’t buy much. It was about $5000 or so, so not close to the 1:1 ratio so many talk about. Those who watch my channel regularly will know because I unboxed almost everything to show my viewers. And after my Kelly 28 purchase, I spent about $2200 before getting this recent offer of the Kelly 25. I track everything. I have no reason not to be honest. Your comment is very strange. Your turn to do the math now and take a step back.
PS, not all of the Hermes items that I own were purchased by me so they don’t fall within my purchase history. For example, one of the bracelets was a gift, some were online purchases (which allegedly doesn’t count but I don’t know for sure). Anyway, a polite question would have gone a long way and I would’ve gladly answered. Excessive question marks and an accusation of dishonesty … so unnecessary and ridiculous.

People decline offers more than UA-cam makes us think. I declined offers and will continue to do so. Also, many of us do not want many quota bags, we prefer to wait for the ones we really really love. To me it’s not crazy and I’m not even surprised by the pre spending. The more I shop at Hermès, the more I understand how they just like having customers that appreciate the brand . They probably size the ones that hate everything but the Kelly’s and the Birkins. 😉
Absolutely, I agree. UA-cam may show all the shopping and unboxing but in “real life” I’m sure many people decline bag offers. In fact, any time you see an Hermes box being carried over without the plastic wrapping on it, I assume it was opened and declined by another client prior. It’s normal.

I’m so glad to see someone reject an offer of a quota bag that wasn’t one they truly liked. It’s a lot of money and I dislike this weird game Hermes plays with clients regarding this. Proud of you for standing by what you like and what you want to spend to invest in (or not).

thank you for this forthcoming info! so many people are elusive about it and like to tell others that their friend's sisters' cousin's daughter's dog "walked in and got offered a Birkin. it depends on how you connect with your SA" meanwhile they have strange items in their collection that suggest a pre-spend 🧐 then there are the people who say, "you know, you have to buy something to get ANY bag. dont go in thirsty for bags with no purchase history!" as if all bags are pre-spend, when they are not... the SA of a flagship store that was very good to me, was very direct and said what you said, offers are based on inventory and timing. I've been to smaller stores where the vibe is totally different and they dont want to tell you anything about the bags if you inquire. ive heard rumors it's because you're "competing for bags" with wealthy communities in the Bay Area or Socal, so the prospect of connecting with an SA seems hopeless. if you dont know about facts like how they get less inventory, it just feels like they dont like you and you'll never be in the club.
I think those smaller stores are key in keeping the brand seeming exclusive, because it was a totally different welcoming experience in the flagship store, where we were invited to interact with all kinds of merchandise out of our own curiosity and not just because they expected us to buy it. the smaller stores were like "what do you want? we dont have it. what else? well I'm going to have to see. k bye" so curt =\ and I even wore my Hermes bag and a couple accessories to the last smaller store who treated me like that. I guess I need to stick to the big store lol
Absolutely! I agree, there’s a lot of misinformation out there and some people are unhappy so they complain and make horrid stories of how impossible everything is. It’s never just one variable - there’s timing, supply & demand, seasonality, SA relationship, SA’s own knowledge and experience (or lack thereof), and so on. Glad to have your POV on this. That’s the right decision. My biggest problem with Hermes is that they have never offered me my first choice of the bag. They gave me something close but not exact. I shop at the Madison store too.

If you’re going to have to pre-spend to be offered a bag, it may be cheaper to pay the reseller premium. I guess it comes down to how important it is to get a new bag or get the boutique experience.

Absolutely. That’s why I always say it’s not worth buying stuff you don’t genuinely want just to get the prespend. That’s such a waste and can make us resentful. Hermes makes beautiful items (outside of their bags) and if you can’t find anything appealing, I agree, may be worth buying the bag you want on the resale market instead. 😉

A 3 week wait for an Evenlyn?!! This proves what a POS my local store is (DC Crystal city). I was put on a wait list for an Evelyn in February and haven't heard back since. And of course I never heard back when I asked for a Kelly. The SA just literally ghosted me. To clarify I am a repeat shopper at Hermes and have about $8k in purchase history.
To be fair, I got my Evelyne 3 years ago and it’s possible there was more stock at the time. I do hope you’ll get yours soon! 🍀
I'm sorry. =( is the store a smaller boutique? I wasnt even asked to be put on a wait list when I went to a smaller store and tried to "connect with an SA." the SA was not interested, they told me the world has "a leather shortage and it's been that way since the beginning of the pandemic and we get occasional bags and they sell out quickly" with no further path to get a bag. but when I went to a flagship store the SA was like "we have them in these colors want to see?" and I was like is this a dream? she said as a flagship their inventory is better and I got there with perfect timing. If you have an SA and that much purchase history, you should be able to call and ask for inventory.. I'm told other people have SAs that will get stuff ordered from other stores for them. with the money you spend they can at least try that route if you are open to various colors. allegedly the neutral colors are super popular bc everyone wants black and brown bags, but if you're open to many colors, maybe they will work with you? I really hope you get yours. have your tried shopping the online bag drop? I think it's worth it to get the bag for retail price and Ive heard the bags dont count toward pre-spend anyway, so might as well get what you want online. best of luck, I know how hard it is to connect with an SA, they just seem like they dont care in some stores. =\

I walked in for the first time, asked about the Evelyne and they brought out several colors (just not the one I had wanted, so I decided to wait). At the time, I had zero purchase history other than Paris. It was interesting because the SA said that they “always have black Evelynes in stock” which I was surprised to hear. I was toying with the idea of getting the black one instead of waiting for the gold color, and that’s when she said that - probably so I didn’t feel pressured. Again this was 3 years ago though. I feel like a lot has changed.

They gave me a store credit for them. Then I bought rubber slides and they hurt me like hell. Then this - not hearing back after being put on a wait list. And every time I go the staff is new. One person stays the same and she never recognizes me. I guess I am not rich enough to be memorable. IDK. I asked for summer colors for the Evelyn - anything bright. And their store isn't that big, but it isn't tiny either.
That red kelly is beautiful, i honestly think hermes does color really well. Usually, hermes bags with a pop of color looks different in different lighting. I honestly think hermes colorful bags can still go with many different outfits and can also be used like an everyday bag with casual outfits. I think you should have gotten the bag. I was offered the 24/24, but when my SA came back from the stock room, she said another SA just snagged it and offerred to another client. I said it was okay as I realky wanted a Kelly anyway. My SA told it's actually good that I didn't buy the 24/24 as I will probably have to wait longer for my dream Kelly if I took yhe 24/24. Anyway, please let me know if you were ever offered and buy your "perfect" Kelly later on as I would love to purchase your Kelly for myself. I personally love the Gris Meyer color and your Kelly is actually my "perfect" Kelly (size, color, hardware color, and style). I have made a request to my SA about this exact configuration ;)
I feel like we have similar taste in handbags and as soon as I saw the color I know it'd be a 'no thanks' lol! It's a pretty color but I'm not crazy about it...I think if it was in rose extreme, togo & PHW it would suit you a lot more. I've also declined 2 offers this year because of the color and hardware, my SA is totally cool with it and always tell me 'don't settle, I'll get you the dream bag!' 😊

Like you I did turned down 2 Kellys (because of size and color) and 1 Constance (because of color & hardware) and I have no regret. I was able to get a Berkin in the color and hardware that I really wanted which was offered to me by my very nice Sales Associate.

Have you ever had colour analysis? I had it done recently and I can’t tell you how helpful it was for working out how to try new colours that suit you, without making expensive mistakes. Intensity / chroma / warmth of your underlying colouring will be an important in working out the perfect shade for you.
Your collection is gorgeous as it is and I am sure your SA will offer you something else. He sounds like a great SA!

Loved hearing your thoughts and how you decided to leave without the bag. I think Hermes makes some lovely bags I wish I could own, but I struggle with the process. I just can't bring myself to spend thousands (10's of thousands) to get a bag if its not EXACTLY what I want. And I'm not interested in buying any Hermes items I don't really want or would love. I do have a watch (cape cod), a few scarfs, a lovely enamel bracelet (red with elephants - love love it and have worn it for years). BTW, Hermes says they have no history of these purchases - even at the boutique where I purchased them (!?!). So, I'm not going to pursue hard to get Hermes bags, even though I would want it have the money . The whole process seems like madness to me!

Constant is actually not a quota bag. Just FYI.😊 And usually only non leather goods are considered to be part of pre-spends, such as RTW ( including shoes), Fine Jewelry, house wares etc. 😊 However, I feel like different stores may have slightly different rules depending on their store managers. 😊 And no, not crazy at all to decline. I have declined many offers. 😂 As long as your SA knows you, then in my opinion, it will not lessen the chances of getting your wishlists. 😊

I did a whole video on this a while back, but since you already have experience shopping with Hermes in Short Hills, no biggie walking into any of the NYC stores! You can do it! There’s nothing special or different about each store in terms of meeting and chatting with an SA and asking for assistance. 😊

Oh yes! I try to imagine the person who bought that Kelly, and it makes me smile. I have a feeling it’ll be a really bright, bold person. 😊 As for the quality, I do think Hermes quality is impeccable BUT I also own other handbags that I feel are extremely well made and beautiful. It’s all a matter of preference. Hermes bags, as coveted as they might be, are not the only high quality bags out there. Let’s be real.
I love red bags but that one is too orangey for me. I definitely don’t see it as a color you would use very often so I think declining it was the right choice.

I live in San Diego, which has a tiny Hermès boutique. I think my chances of getting a quota bag is slim to none, especially since they never have anything in store that I want to do the pre spend. More often than not I walk away empty handed. I have yet to develop relationships with the SAs at any of the luxury boutiques. I’m okay with all of it. Less pressure to buy things. 😊

I think it’s so ridiculous people actually have to be offered a bag ..to spend thousands of dollars and not get what you really want?? I get exactly what I want or don’t get it all for that amount of money. I honestly don’t see the big deal with these Hermes bags? I’d choose other brands over those any day. It’s all about being able to say they have them rather than actually loving them.

It’s been hard to build up rapport with a single SA. I tried to stay in contact with her and request help with getting items but never heard back.
It’s possible she no longer works at Hermes. Maybe worth trying a different SA the next time you visit.

Yes indeed, the practices do seem to turn a lot of people away and that’s understandable. Unfortunately many have also been saying that Chanel is now limiting their classic bags to those VIP clients who spend in other categories first. Chanel SAs also do not receive commission on their Classic bags. Just as Hermes SAs do not receive commission on their quota bags. So this encourages SAs to try to make sales in other areas. As I’m sure you already know, Chanel started limiting the number of bags you can buy (max 2 classics per year I believe) at least in the US. So some are saying they are doing the same thing as Hermes except their bags are not handmade by one artisan as H bags are and the quality is questionable. 🤷🏻♀️ I actually really like Chanel aesthetics (my fave) and have been a longtime fan but there’s always so much noise/drama around the brand. 😅

I’ve spent just under 18K for 4 quota bags,3 from my local store and 1 fromParis. Plus 2 Evelyns which don’t count. Just do the math and be honest when sharing info.
Yes, as I mentioned, when I bought my Birkin, my spend was a bit below the 1:1 ratio. I’ve talked about this before and shared all the detailed history in previous videos. From what I understand, then the prespend technically resets for the next quota bag offer. Between my Birkin and Kelly purchases, I didn’t buy much. It was about $5000 or so, so not close to the 1:1 ratio so many talk about. Those who watch my channel regularly will know because I unboxed almost everything to show my viewers. And after my Kelly 28 purchase, I spent about $2200 before getting this recent offer of the Kelly 25. I track everything. I have no reason not to be honest. Your comment is very strange. Your turn to do the math now and take a step back.
PS, not all of the Hermes items that I own were purchased by me so they don’t fall within my purchase history. For example, one of the bracelets was a gift, some were online purchases (which allegedly doesn’t count but I don’t know for sure). Anyway, a polite question would have gone a long way and I would’ve gladly answered. Excessive question marks and an accusation of dishonesty … so unnecessary and ridiculous.
