It's in scenes (and Films) like this when "Crazy Cage" works. He has a reason to appear so far removed from reality in this scene, it's not only realistic: it's downright tragic
I find it quite very sad that he doesn't seem to know any better. By the way....Theres no way possible he would have walked back out of that Bank without being arrested. This is completely unrealistic to even think this would happen.

Can you really act like that in public in Las Vegas..I live in Britain and people seem to get annoyed if anyone displays any sign of drinking in the day let alone this!
@stirange I work as a security guard and trust me, you'd be surprised how much we let people get away with. There's a stereotype that security guards are all super aggressive wannabe cops who constantly push people around but the truth is most of us are lazy and don't care. Especially if we're part of a union.
Talking like that is not that uncommon for true alcoholics. They live on the edge of reality and delusions their existence is half in Hell and trying to function.
This is absolutely accurate. The halting speech, the motions , the patterns that you think you can see and hear in words, the pride you take in it and you talk as though all you want to do is laugh and make other people laugh because this entire place, all of it, is some strange echo and 2 or 3 seconds later you shut up and try to think about what you just said to someone you don't know at all, and try to figure out why you told them anything. It's a form of insanity, self-imposed and it never stops until you make the decision to try to make it stop
This is classic but what does it mean in the context of the film......was the character really doing this or was it his imagination.....I have so many questions about this film in general
Take it one step further. Lower the standard and react to revealing moments and wonder why you didn't get a lot more. That is the philosophy. You come to a point where the belief is -- Why her, she's like me, but I don't lie about it to fit in? That moment for me was at a nude beach.
That's my life now. Not all the drinking but what he says. Been divorced for quite a few years and I can have sex with women and then they can go away.

all the extras do a great job in this movie of very realistically reacting to the self-immolation of the protagonists
I've often thought of doing this at a bank myself.
Why?
+Marty Keaton Maybe because it's cool
In what way?
+Marty Keaton In my opinion just recording your thoughts about someone without caring what others think is cool.

His finest moment.
Music, his pronunciation and what he's saying gives me heavy David Lynch vibe
Plus he's speaking into a handheld tape recorder a la Dale Cooper
also the bad/wonky/white jazz

This movie is pretty great.
But too much Elisabeth Shue screen time instead of Nic Cage.
Elisabeth Shue was fantastic in this, she is an integeral part of the whole film and should have been nominated herself, Cage deserved it though
I disagree, Shue balanced Cage's performance.
