Thanks man, Milanote will be helpful!
I'm a writer and I use milanote to plan my stories, my boards actually do look like a wall of text but with arrows, and those arrows really do help me sort things out
plus milanote also has a 'document' card where I can tuck paragraphs into so that my board isn't just full of story details, that's helpful as well :D
You're a huge inspiration goodgis! I dream of working together with a group of passionate people like you do with Firith. Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks so much for all the support and encouragement. I wish you the best of luck! :D
I was watching your view on Godot vs Unity just as this got posted
You give me quite the inspiration to follow my own game dev journey on Godot so I thank you for that
For everyone who is also starting, I wish you all the best and a successful road!
That's awesome! I'm sure you'll do great :D
I use trello at the moment but this software looks great, I’m a visual and kinaesthetic learner so this is far better for me. I do also have a little obsession of organising my files (hehe) so this looks great!
Same, that's why it works so well for me!
@@Goodgis I really love the way the dewdrop board looks! It so clean!
I use trello as of now too. This just seems waaaay more professional haha
I do enjoy the passion in your voice, it does mean you've found the right tool for you. When I finally found the right tool for me (and even now, 3 years later) I will always talk people's ears off about how it helps me stay organised when developing my side-project.
You should haha
Thank you so much for sharing!
This might be the kind of tool I was looking for as well to help motivate me and keep me organized more easily.
:D
I've been on a quest to find a better organization system for the last 4 months or so, this is exactly what I was trying to find, I just didn't have the words for it. Thank you!
Super happy it helped! :D
This looks really cool! I've been in the same situation, and finally ran across Craft which makes me super happy now. I'm more of a text braindump kind of guy, which makes it a good fit for me - but I'll definitely give Milanote a try for a future project too!
That sounds sweet, I'll have to check it out!
I absolutely adore Milanote! I feel like it's the first app that really works well for organizing gamedev projects, outside of printing stuff and doing it on your wall.
Totally agree!
I totally agree with you. If you don't organize your game you can even not finish it or lose interest.
Would be good to know how you organize your game, what you use (I think you use more than just board), and how you separate ideas from approved ones. How to work with this in a team :)
Yeah, the planning part is just as important.
It's 3 years that I'm looking for this video, listening to you and your reserch for this software was like listening my own brain talking to me, I used to do my board with paint and photoshop, It is so wonderfull to have finally found this software, finally all the variables will be simply organized, thanks a lot!!!
You're very welcome!
Milanote is amazing thank you! Organization is so important and this does the job just right!! My favorite option so far is tha ability to click on itmes from webpages and it saves right to your project. Thanks Goodgis for the vid and Milanote for the amazing program!!
I just started using it and I see what you mean. You can see the step by step and progress. So far I love it. Thank you!
Hi, I love your videos, you always explain the stuff I need, and you are really good at game dev and video editing
Hey, thanks so much! :D
Absolutely perfect timing for this video, been waiting since Sunday for this 👀
Hope it helps. ;)
Milanote reminds me of Miro, they seems very similar (collaborative free form canvas). Personally I like to use Notion though, since it also looks great, you can have pages in pages in pages... And you can also do databases, todo lists, and much more!
Thanks for sharing!
I also love using Notion but as he mentioned, notion has no free-form canvas which limits my brainstorming etc.
Thank's you so much for letting me know these new super useful free applications
I can't help but feel overwhelmed with your editing, I think you deserve more credit for it
Thanks so much! :D
Thanks for this tool, I was in a similar situation and it does get quite frustrating but thankfully, in a way, you suffered so that we don't 😅
haha, yes this is the heavy burden I carry being a game dev elf.
I dont have money to use Milanote anymore. I only have like 20 elements left :( But it is very good and i really enjoyed working with it. I really like the dotted background and every element looks very clean. I really like this software.
Yeah, the limit is a bit of a shame but it still can be super useful.
This looks insane to me. "I find kanban boards overwhelming" and then you show a different layout on every canvas and flyouts for all sorts of elements.
I am really glad there are different tools for different brains. Glad you like this but it looks maybe better for a different kind of thinker than me.
This really seems like this "one tool to rule them all" situation. Will definitely check it out to maybe replace my net of draw io, trello and so on! :)
great video Goodgis! The editing is amazing
Thanks so much, David!
I used obsidian for big ass projects but this seems even better !!!! 😮🎉
Also, yay ! beautiful templates !
Heck yeah haha
Thanks for this wonder, if it wasn't for this tool, I would be lost to create my games!
That's awesome!
I love Milanote. Using it right now to plan out our first game!
Me too! It's awesome!
I really enjoy milanote, I kind of forgot about it for a while until I saw this video. Thanks!
No problem!
This is a cool video. I was mostly looking to get an idea of what game development organization even looks like, since I’ve never done that or been involved in it. And it did give me a general feel.
I wonder how many development teams would benefit from someone who could help organize the ideas and work as part of the team. I like things to be neat personally, and it was just something that popped in my head as I start learning game creation skills.
nice really needed software to better organize my work. Will be working on a big project soon thanks goodgis
Glad it was helpful!
Love your content mate ! keep up the good work !
Ayye, thanks so much!
This video made me try out the swoftware I really enjoyed working on it specially when it comes for level design . Thanks for the recommendation !
sweet thanks for sharing
Omg, this will be SO helpful, thank you! I'm beginning Game Dev. and I'm always losing track of what I have to do :/
Glad I could help! :D
Awesome video. I was considering milanote for a long time and im struggeling between notion and milanote.
Glad it was helpful!
Ok yea I’ll definitely make sure to check this out
:D
Aweee man thank you so much for the shoutout! Great video! Keep up the amazing work!
Of course! You and Giacomo have really inspired me, and I'm so grateful for it. :D
Thanks, I never even knew this existed! This is a great tool.
Happy to help!
Im totally jumping on this one!
:D
Great video! Are you going to stream the great spring game jam games?
Yes, hopefully today!
@@Goodgis Yay! I hope you play mine lol
I started using Milanote ever since i saw the turn based battler by Brackeys! :D i absolutely love that software.
That's awesome! :D
Wonderful video as always!
Thank you! Cheers!
Man... thank you. Finally, I can stop wasting 80% of my dev time looking for a management software.
I wish Milanote would fuse with Whimsical.
Milanote boards inside boards is just... fantastic, but it still has usability issues, like the need to click on "arrow" then selecting both ends. Whimsical makes this way easier but unfortunately, Whimsical doesn't have the board inside board approach, which is something that makes so much sense to me.
AWESOME THIS IS VERY HELPFUL
Glad it helped! :D
yeah milanote is really useful I am gonna use it for my next game
Heck yeah!
i am starting using milanote now it so easy to note down all the bosses down and their attacks to store them to work on them.
I have some very good ideas for bosses you should add.
That's awesome!
@@Goodgis I will DM the ideas on discord
I gave it a shot. Im going back to my tried and true Things 3. Its a great piece of software but I tire of subscriptions. I just want to buy something and have it. I know you said free but there is not nearly enough space.
Hey, no worries! I totally get where you're coming from.
Looks like a much cleaner version of Miro! Definitely gonna try this one out and see how good the free account stuff is!
:D
Goodgis, you have replied to each and every one of my comments so, I just wanted to thank you for that :)
Thanks so much! I appreciate it. :D
I really like your videos goodgis :D
Thanks so much, Shanggosteen! :D
Hi I love your videos keep up the good work this is so cool
Thanks so much! :D
Recommendations for project management systems when it comes to table-top game design?
Thanks for the recommendation!
I'm using a mix of Miro & Trello.
Nice!
Nice video. Great help for designers that have Aspbergers and ADD. For me, trello is just too complicated. But this seems like writing your idea on paper.
Finally I found this video again.
Thats literally the most fun part of game making
;)
Love your vids 👍
Thanks so much! :D
this is what i was just looking for! Trello is just no fun and so difficult for me to look at, so i just quit until i found this video...
So thanks!
Glad I could help!
I’ve been using trello and notion for a while now, I love them both
That's awesome! It always makes me happy when people find what works for them.
😁
Tried this out with my friends! Kind of sad that I don't have money to pay for the monthly fee, but it's such a good way to organize small projects ^_^
Yeah, that's the only down side to it. It's really nice though. :D
I'm a little late to this video, but thanks for the tips! Milanote seems like a great tool😁
It really is!
At least for how I do things, Kanban boards are good for visual projects but horrible for things which require tasks. Much like you do, I did spend about 1 month testing pretty much every task management tool on the market and ended up setting on Quire. And I did set up on it for one particular reason: every single task manager out there seems to always put recurring tasks behind paid plans while that feature is free on Quire.
Totally agree!
You said 12 years of searching...bro thats my entire existance
Woah! haha
New Goodgis video!
:D
Great video
hi goodgis you helped me a little while ago I wanna know what engine and map builder did you use for the bird platformer game
Godot :D
You should add that software to the 'software I use' section in your video descriptions
LOL, I guess I should have!
Awesome! I'm using Milanote now, thank you!
How do make your game look 64?
Nice! :D I just design low poly models and use a low res filter.
Thanks so much! I have this problem always, if I start a bigger project, and I am around half way through, I am like: yeah lets start another project and I do not finish any of my games
It can hard at times! Planning out your games can really save you a lot of heartache.
@@Goodgis yeah true, I used trello for a while, but it didnt work out, so I will definitely try this one out
I just use Microsoft 365 and normal folders on windows all in a big folder... I do need to get more effecnt with it and add more folders but still it works for me... Millanote seems good though glad you enjoy it!
Hey, that works too! haha
You now will be a dewdrop dynasty devlog when he changes his banner , and I’m super hyped for that !
;) OH, it's on it's way.
I wonder about this software potentially having a trap in how much you can sink into making it “look nice” ultimately I respect that it’s all about conveying information and if pictures make it more efficient then great.
My worry would be that at a certain point it’s just looking nicer than a Kanban board rather than actually executing the task better.
If you read this, would love to read your thoughts about it
You can say the same with a piece of paper and markers. It all comes down to self control haha
@@Goodgis haha exactly, no matter what I use I try to make it look nice but also straight to the point. That makes it easier for me to understand it. Less of a headache!
I've been using trello recently but in the past I also used paper. I have reams of ideas partially organised in old folders. 😂
Nice! haha
milanote vs figma figjam board ? which one to chose ?
cool video i really like this i had actually a problam with planning games so i usally just making stupid things at the end
Planning is such an important part! :D
7th to watch, nice Goodgis. You're always relatable:)
Ayyye, thanks so much!
obsidian is a GREAT alternative to milanote, the ui is really good and the graph system just gives me dopamine when switching to it
Thanks for sharing!
Wait till you find about Masterplan!... which come to think of it is better for solodev in one machine. In any case, the level maker on that one is pretty appealing.
:D
lol i just realized that here on the miniature of this film you can see sheerluck forest before you announced it.
:D
I use Miro! Still a beginner but I love it
Nice!
hi new here which is hard to use unity or milanote and why?
They are very different. Unity is a game engine and Milanote is a product organizer.
I don't know if you've done a video on this or not...but...I am having the worst time finding music software for games. Free would be preferable, but maybe it's a video topic to consider? Something along the lines of: Top Ten Free and Paid Software for Making Music for Your Game? That would be wonderful!
Thanks for sharing! I'll keep that in mind.
What app do you use to create games?
he uses game maker and godot mostly godot
@@Vexed-3 Does it cost money?
@@ImLulutenland godot is free game maker i think has a free trial with a subscription but idk
can you make a basic pyxil edit tutorial?
Like what specifically? It's a pretty basic pixel art software.
Title: How to stay organized and actually finish your games.
Me: Well that's a good question! I... Don't... haha?
LOL I think we've all be there.
@@Goodgis YES.
Funny thing, I also found milanote by watching his video
Nice! haha
When I organize I use a circle and divide it by twelve
Its great learning to organize your games but I need to learn how to make a game in the first place...
Hey, just take it one step at a time!
I use Milanote to organise me and my team’s production schedule
Milanote is all i ever want to organize my ideas. Thanks very much for this video.
Glad to hear it! :D
yay gnome boi uploaded again :)
Ayyye!
@@Goodgis ayyyye also quick question, why is the entire video basically an ad?
@@anticstudios he needs money
@@kiyu3229 yes but still he could've mentioned some news on another game at least :(
I generally struggle with what to put on the board. It's just pretty hard to break down tasks, and I especially have a problem updating the board, which is something I do like once per 2 weeks. Often completely forgetting about its existence. Any tips?
Perhaps you actually don't need it?
The board should help you organize your game so if you find yourself working on your game without it just fine and having a hard time updating your board to reflect that, either you have another way of organizing your thoughts or you just don't need it.
@@user-cx6ec2kp6u I did think about that in the past, yeah, but I want to have a way to see how much I've done at the same time. Even though I personally don't get that much motivation from it, it's still great to see that I am actually moving forward.
I mostly use my boards a daily tasks. You can also make a board where it's a list of all the enemies, locations, or items. Then make a check list for each of them. The most important thing is to make it bite size chunks.
My favorite part has to be the fact that it automatically gives you an icon based on the name that you give to your boards
Heck yeah! I love that!
yes
Agreed
yay
YAYY!
Cool dude
Thanks!
I had questions. I HAD them. Until now.
Thanks to Milanote and you for sharing it with us.
XD
Hack n Plan is my go to for working on a game.
Nice, I'll have to check it out!
I like Milanote, but I think its not targetted enough at game dev, so I'm making my own :)
Nice!
@@Goodgis 😀
This seems great, but it's way too expensive. The free model is so restrictive I think it's unusable in the scope you are describing. 12.50 USD a month? This is highway robbery. I will continue to use Trello as it's free and has API for all sorts of stuff.
I wholeheartedly disagree with the statement "Project organization is the worst part of developing a game" That is literally what I look forward to every time I make a game. It's a very satisfying procedure
That's awesome to hear!
