  • The first video in a multi-part series on Ancient History. We start with a brief introduction to Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, our first two civilizations to explore. In later videos, we’ll discuss the history of these areas as well as Ancient Greece, Anatolia, and Persia.

    Nice talk! What was the likely population of Ancient Egypt? Do we have any indications of population? You spoke of the organization of that population in social levels or classes, but where they all Egyptian or did you get mixes of ethnicities from across Northern Africa and the Middle East?

      I’ve seen estimates that the population was around 2m in about 2500 BC. There was certainly a mix of different people in Egypt - people from Nubia, the Levant, and Libya. And this increased with time as Egypt expanded its influence in the wider Near East.
