- Comet goldfish are often sold as feeder fish for a couple of cents each, and people often buy them and stick them into a small fish bowl without doing any research. I will show you how big these fish actually get and what type of a home they need to truly thrive.

Dear S. Renier:
I heard that goldfish eat pest snails, so I purchased a comet goldfish, from my, local, pet store, several years ago. I started this, female goldfish, in a 10-gallon tank, but soon moved it to a 75-gallon tank. It devoured all, visible, pest snails, in the tank. I was very happy, with this development. However, I found it didn’t make an ideal, community fish, as it consumed all, live plants and gobbled up most of the fish food, before tank-mates had a chance to eat. I gave my goldfish, to a friend, who keeps it in a 30-gallon tank, with a female, multi-colored, long-finned goldfish, of the same size. They are right happy, in this, unplanted tank, with a gravel substrate and plastic hides, from Walmart. I’d like to see them move on, to a pond, of at least several hundred gallons.
Thank you for sharing this, interesting and informative video, on goldfish care.
All my best,
Sincerely,

Thanks. You should try explaining to your friend that comet goldfish need really big tanks to thrive and hopefully he upgrades the tank that his goldfish are in.
