How To do a Fish-In Cycle (simple and easy method)
Переглядів 59821 годину тому
When you set up a new tank, you must cycle it to ensure that there is enough beneficial bacteria established to support your fish. Most people cycle their aquariums without fish, but then they are unable to add fish to their tank for over a month after setting it up, and that's no fun. So, in this video, I will show you how to cycle a tank with fish.

How to Ship Fish Through the Mail Quickly, Easily, and Safely
If its a smaller tank, how much do u take out? Is it still around 70%?
Yes. For the first week or so, you want to be doing water changes of around 70-80%, as the beneficial bacteria hasn’t established yet and the tank is liable to get ammonia spikes which will hurt or kill your fish.
good video man, did not know I could do this, thanks for the help and in-depth explanations!
Glad I could teach you something new
first time i've heard not going through the drip acclimatization procedure for shrimps.
When you get fish or shrimp through the mail you don’t want to drip acclimate because all of the poop and ammonia in the bag reacts with the oxygen when you open the bag and prolonged exposure in this water will actually kill the fish or shrimp, hence the lack of drip acclimation.
Beautiful. Thanks for the video inside the store.
Glad you enjoyed
Well, shrimp do live in parts of the amazon so there's that. anyway, cheers from my fish room channel in Chicago, where I'm happy to support yours :)
😂
Are you Woody Allen?
That was horrible packing.... Bad on the seller. Im glad they still made it, my shrimp have proven to be quite hardy aswell. The only thing i attempted from amazon so far was snails (didnt make it) and Scarlet Badis (also didn't make it).....
I was shocked that they survived when I opened the box up and saw no packaging
Lime pebbles. Now check your PH,just to see its flying to the sky
Please give us an update after a month or so! I've gotten shrimp from petco that seemed great but died a week later inexplicably. I'd love to see how these compare!
I’ll be sure to do that
Mine just arrived yesterday. I bought them from Amazon twice already and so far I thought they were the best.
The quality of these shrimp seemed pretty good. Hopefully they hold up over time
intro goes hard af
Thank you
lol i got some from amazon 2 weeks ago i have 15 out 20 left
That’s good to know.
Im really glad you made this because I was considering it myself.
Glad I could help
That's so cool that you can get fish shipped to your house (^ω^)
Good effort mate, maybe you would want to let the tank run a little more before you add shrimp. Since they're more sensitive than fish, even nano fish
I haven’t had any issues with them so far but thanks for the advice
I accidentally left a giant tape worm in my shrimp tank and now I can find it how do I rid the fish of tape worms without hurting my shrimps. Please help
There are anti-parasite medications that fish stores sell that should help. Try using something like Fritz Para-Cleanse on your tank. That should help clear the worms.
This look messy but cool trick
Ya cool but it looks terrible bud😂
Absolutely beautiful The fishes seem so happy 😭
Thank you
I have a 10 gallon tank how can I make a ecosystem with shrimp in there without filter just heater but how would I cycle the tank
Make sure that you have lots of live plants, add in beneficial bacteria like API quick start, then test the water every couple days to make sure that there is no ammonia spike, and do lots of water changes for the first month or so of the tank being set up.
Thats cool
Really awesome setup. What do you feed your Endlers if you don’t mind me asking? They look great in your bowl.
I feed them flake food. Thanks for the kind words.
i would use e6000 i heard thats safe and waterproof🤷♀️ but good tip!! i will try this i have a few pieces i cant get down!!
I’ve actually never heard of e6000. Do you know what it is?
Please don’t use e6000 for aquariums it can leach into the water and kill the fish. Use aquarium safe glue or any superglue with cyanoacrylate instead!
@@ec_aquaticsit’s just super glue
Subscriber #300, I can't wait to see everything happy and thriving. I recommend a large fish tunnel for them to hide in for sun and predator protection. I love those dwarf cattails. So adorable.
Welcome to the community :). I have a large fish cave that’s covered by a massive rock where all the fish love to hang out.
@@ec_aquatics Thank you for the welcome! Glad to hear you got them covered already.
How many gallons is that?
It’s about 750 or so
How deep ?
@veasna5244 2 feet deep, 10 feet long and 6 feet wide.
@@ec_aquatics about the same as mine , how are the fishes during winter.
@veasna5244 I have a cave in the pond where they hibernate over the winter.
Just a question 🙋♂️ in the uk all batches ok koi are kept in separate ponds with seperate filters to stop cross contamination of bacteria and parasites 🦠 anyway subbed from the uk all the best Arron & Leo Humber koi
The store I bought my koi from has a substantial quarantine room, so I would assume that’s why they were all kept together.
I love your pond! Those fish did look like they were having fun. I've always wished I could have a pond like that. 🐟🐟🐟
Thank you
Very pretty. 😁
Thank you! 😊
Awesome video! I have a question, though. Will this kill planaria?
Hmm, I’m actually not sure. It might, but if I were you I would do some more research on the internet before trying this method to kill planaria.
Those guys are awesome 👍
You can pull old dead leaves out of a pond or body of water
Definitely. But you will still need to boil them to ensure that no bad microorganisms get into your aquarium.
@@ec_aquatics No! The organisms in the pond are completely beneficial for your aquarium.
I meant more of there’s a risk with introducing diseases or parasites that may be present in different body of water. There are definitely loads of beneficial microorganisms in ponds or streams. Thank you for pointing out my oversight.
Otocinclus must be placed in groups, at least 6 otos to make them comfortable as they are gregarious fish. Also clean the filter as the crap in the slits will reduce the flow drasticly. Otherwise nice tank! I hope you add more plants as you go, nice video!
Thanks for the info about otos. I will be sure to get some more to add next time I’m at the fish store.
Well done . 🏆
Thank you
what is the beneficial bacteria that you add at the end?
I use API quick start. The bacteria is nitrifying bacteria that helps kickstart the nitrogen cycle in the aquarium.
how long does it typically take for clue to set?
About 10-15 seconds to see enough so that the pebbles will stay attached, and at most an hour to completely harden, but the gel will harden immediately upon contact with water.
Good vid though
Thank you
Bro's doing this in the backrooms, anyone else hear the buzz? 😂
That’s probably the air pump I have running my breeding tanks 😂
Who cares where he does the video. He's doing something he enjoys and is sharing it with the world.
You should try breeding Ancistrus claro! They're bristlenose plecos that stay under 3 inches! I'd love to see them become common in the aquarium hobby. Right now, the only place I know that sells them is Wet Spot Tropical fish in Oregon. But they overnight ship to anywhere in the US.
I’ve actually never heard of them, but they seem like a fun breeding project.
@@ec_aquaticsTheir L-number is LDA 008 & their common name is "Gold Marble Bristlenose" b/c the males can partially change color :) I had some once, but then my company made me relocate to a different state, so I gave them away...
I love packing fish orders
What a nice pond
"now the tank is safe to add fish" i dunno about that one lol
Once the tank is dechlorinated and has beneficial bacteria added, it is safe for fish to go in. You just have to regularly test the water to ensure that there are no ammonia spikes.
Breeders tend to use an RO machine, dechlorinate merley binds the harmful chemicals and substances up..remaining in the water column. Also RO means you can specifically target gh and kh depending on the species. Be a bit careful with non aquarium sand as it can increase phosphate levels leading to algae, and as plecos are extremely good at producing waste I would recommend a motorised sponge filter rather than an airdriven..airdriven don't turn over much water and water quality is important in this sort of setup as its such a small volume. Thank you for the video
Thank you for your advice. I tried to make this tank as simple and as cheaply as possible for hobbyists to be able to recreate very cheaply, but I will certainly take your recommendations on how I can improve the tank.
@@ec_aquatics anytime
how much time should have passed after adding the chlorine and adding the beneficial bacteria? From what i read from the other comments: step 1) add chlorine , step 2) let chlorine do its work and kill everything (how long?) step 3 ) get the chlorine out of the system (Reverse Osmosis machine was recommended, are there other ways?) Step 4) add beneficial bacteria another question: cant i just use boiled water , which i let sit in room temperature to cool and then add the beneficial bacteria immediately after?
Nice, easy setup. This inspires me to pursue my blackwater project 💪
I’m glad I could inspire you
Great job, bro 👌
Thank you
This is awesome! Keep up the good work!
Thank you
Hey great video ! Is eolianite stone is aquarium safe?
I’ve actually never heard of that type of stone before, but as long as it’s not made out of something like limestone that will drastically raise the pH and hardness of your water it should be good to use.
Awhh THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I never thought of this! 😃❤️ ❤John 3:16❤😊
Glad I could help you!
Hello, congrats on the beautiful aquarium. I have a 180 liters aquarium I'd like to make blackwater, but my worry is that it'll be full of algae in a short period of time. How do you prevent this from happening?
I would use lots of floating plants like red root floaters or Amazon Frogbit. They suck up loads of nitrate and keep the light level in the tank low, preventing algae blooms.
Amazing work, thanks for the advice, it looks great. ❤️🙏🏽✌🏽👑
Thank you. Glad I could help
Great video! This gave me a great idea to fill in an empty spot in the fish room! Thanks!
I’m glad I could inspire you!
How is this supposed to be a Dutch aquarium then ? Have you ever read the guidelines of NBAT ?
Dutch just means no hardscape. I’m sure to make it a proper Dutch scape there might be guidelines but I decided to change it up a bit, but still go with the idea of no hardscape that is present in all Dutch setups.
