UPDATE: They have announced a close playtest that I will be in starting April 18th and lasting for one week. There is no NDA so I will be covering this game a lot! Hopefully full early access release soon after!
What a fantastically well done video Jesse. I assume you don't have an editor yet and you did it all yourself. Really super well done video and script!!
Wow, yet another dev team that will ONLY let streamers/content crestors play their game and test. What a joke. If its good enough for them to test, then its good enough for the rest of us. All these devs will let streamers play and record gameplay that us normies just get to watch and this goes on for months and years. Absolutely ridiculous. There are PLENTT if people who are capable of testing games who are not streamers. They need to GIVE OTHERS ACCESS. Like..are these games being built for everyone to have fun? Or are they being made with the soul purpose of getting streamers to stream it and fuck the rest of us? Not cool
One thing that I like about Tarkov is that when you kill someone.. they're not coming right back for you or setting up an ambush down the road after coming back. The idea of 'permadeth' on the instance you're in make every kill that much more important / satisfying.
Agreed. I have the opposite feeling of what this video is stating; getting to come back to a fight is not a good thing. Makes it more traditional FPS-like than extraction shooter.
it's also entirely possible that greyzone will use less unique gear, ie you might buy a crate of 20 m4 rifles so losing one is no big deal. Thus the concept of going back for your stuff might not even be worth it most of the time. There's so many ways to skin that cat. Also you can go back via scavving, although it's far less common to get the same raid now that you can't pick one specific server.
I am so excited for GZW I've been following Riloe's coverage on it religiously. So ready to see the scale and beauty of the game! The other part about this game excites me so much is that Madfinger said that PVP isnt the focus, while you can do pvp its not what the game is based around. There will be no missions to try and kill each other which is something i am excited for too.
I really like the concept of PvP being a secondary focus and not at the forefront of the gameplay, because it just means like how Jesse compared it to DayZ, those rare encounters with PMC's will be crazy and exciting. The idea you could be on for hours just grinding away at missions stashing loot to suddenly encounter another full PMC squad intersecting your mission and have a wild firefight in the middle of the jungle or some huge village sounds awesome. Or, you can spot them, decide it's not worth the risk, and wait for them to leave the area before attempting your mission. You have choices, and there is more space for people to go so it's unlikely they'll stick around a long time. Tarkov forces everyone to the same points of interest every single raid because everyone has all the same missions just at different stages of the game, so it feels like you really don't have a choice on the PvP side of things if you want to progress, and you really don't considering all the PvP missions.
I would like to add Hunt Showdown to the mix. No, it is not as deep as the other games mentioned but the way it handles the players moving around the map is really nice, feels really "natural" because it creates main points of interest in the map that eventually converge into a hot spot that keeps the match in motion and the best part is that there is still an option for the player to interact in the whole match or just win 1-2 fights and leave to hunt another day with better weapons or better skills that improve your gameplay. Great video, great content as always.
I'll hold my opinion till yall get your hands on it and can see it for what it is. I really hope it's good. We all love tarkov but it would be nice to have something similar when it's mid wipe.
Im interested to see where it will go, but IMO People definitly overhype the Game when they say "It will Kill Tarkov". Nothing short of BSG metaphorical deleting the Game will achieve that at this Point. And also a fact is that as you said, Gray Zone WILL be different than Tarkov and not cater to everyone who plays/likes Tarkov.
Totally agree, and one thing you haven't mentioned is the fact that a lot of us are sick of the PVP cheating, so a more PVE based games is just what we wanted. I have to say though "Realism" started with ARMA.
00:18 Roadside Picnic! One can only expect good things from a group of devs who know their classics. It currently feels slightly like they're attempting to bite off more than they can chew, but they've got big dreams and so I've got high hopes. If they pull it off, I believe the game will become a fave of mine quite quickly.
Bought Tarkov a month ago and I haven't left the menu yet. I look at the controls, inventory, etc. and I get so overwhelmed. I really intend to finally play today.
What @ElectronicRequiem said. The Singleplayer Tarkov/SPT mod is a fantastic way to learn the game, and preferable for a lot of people. Mods for Singleplayer Tarkov can also help you find out where to extract, what kind of ammo is better, etcetera. Without having to look up maps, charts and all that sort of boring shit. Highly recommended.
Like what every one else has said use the SPT mod its extremly well worth it for learning the maps and the game mechanics and everything else + ignoring the bots faults its very good.
No matter how good or bad gray zone becomes we should always respect the og of the genre. Tarkov has its problems but it created and paved the way of this genre. Even triple A companies fail to replicate what tarkov is because it requires a unique playstyle

I am a hardcore Tarkov fan. I have been following this game but I still had been unsure of if I would enjoy it. But this video finally gave me that itch to try it. I just don’t have much time for gaming so my game time is pretty much dedicated to Tarkov.
So, Years ago "the division" had a mode called "Dark Zone" which was essentially an escape from tarkov style extraction mode. I think that is what sorta built the interest for this kind of mode.
I don’t think so tbh, dark zone didn’t have like anything related to tarkov lol. Tarkov is more dayz combined with a battle rouale in the sense rhat people spawn in the map and its elemination with multiple teams. The only thing the division had the same was you could bring gear into the dark zone… but thats it lol

I appreciate how you mention everyone needs a different balance of PvE versus PvP interaction, while playing a PvEvP. So far, Tarkov came closest to do this for me. But it's like you said; even though I love PvP, avoiding PvP when you need to can often be so hard, and there is nothing worse than the abuse by players of this fact. I do hope they don't make this game too expensive, because I feel it will be quite the experiment..

I really hope this game does well it looks incredible. DEADSIDE uses the same respawn in same map on death and able to run back and get your gear however i must say i am not a big fan of it in this particular game but i will be trying out grayzone for sure
Being able to occasionally make it to an extraction and avoid losing everything to cheaters is the one saving grace Tarkov has and this game is like 'nope, we're taking the extraction out of extraction shooters, lol'...
Really looking forward to see what the closed test has in store, the info we have now reminds me of the fun of PvE from a game like Ghost Recon Wildlands.
I like that raids in tarkov are separated from the stash and menus. If it's like Rust or DayZ where all your progress can be shut down at any time from offline raids or like you die but a skilled player will gear back up and cut you off and get to you before you can leave. I don't like that and enjoy that aspect of tarkov over Rust and DayZ.
To be honest, I have been hearing about Tarkov for a long time. But what really got me in extraction shooters was DMZ, it was very crude in the beginning but got pretty good, way more casual. But when Activision discovered that the DMZ would not give them money (people hate over p2w features), they throw it in the garbage. Then I decided to give Tarkov a go. I really enjoyed it, but Tarkov is not really accessible, and way too much not casual friendly. It would be nice to have something in the middle ground, same hardcore felling, but way more easy on getting people onboard to shoot with friends, I have high hopes for something like that.
I understand the appeal of the continuous server for some but what i like about tarkov is that the death is so final, you die, its over. Knowing i can kill someone or die and they can just come back takes away that feeling personally.
Very understandable. I definitely feel like that is a dividing line where some people love it and some people don't. It's one of the biggest reasons I hope that this and Tarkov both do well and continue to thrive. More cool experiences is more better lol
@@nothingtoaddhere11the chances of this happening on such a large map are slim to none. The devs have stated it would take you 10-15 min on average to go back to most locations to get your stuff. By then if you haven't looted and moved away from that area, then you deserve to lose your stuff.
All I want is real sniping. Long range, breath holding, 1000+m snipes possible with a perfectly landed head shot with the right build, BUT then I want every one in the area to know where Im at generally and I need to move and swap to my secondary and fight! I wanna smoke the point of an enemy team from range, move 100m, and use him as bait to pop the rest of the team.
Most important there will be a PvE only mode/servers...a lot of players like me just hate PvP, but love to play SP Tarkov or would engage in an "Adam Offline" version of Eve Online. Because the foundation of these games is exactly what we want, with PvP it just becomes the wrong kind of game. And ofc you will be able to access a lot more players. SP Tarkov is a great example of how modular and customizable games can be, seems like GZW took some notes and didn´t condemn PvE only, but embraced it as an opportunity.
I miss the cycle frontier. My duo is too casual to get into tarkov and the cycle frontier casualfied the genre enough for him, but not too much to be marauders/hunt showdown.
ALL competition is good. I stopped playing EFT a couple resets back because I don't like how they deal with cheaters. BUT, these sorts of games always further open the ear and eye of the established folks in LISTENING to their playerbases, else losing them to the more dense field of similars that don't share their cheater problem. That's just my personal example, but the fact remains that competition in a market is ALWAYS good.
Isn’t this exactly what Tarkov said it would do. For years now I’ve been told that one day Tarkov will be 1 huge persistent map with UN checkpoints separating higher level areas
I'm really interested to see how the griefing will happen, the ability to rush back to your loot and fight for it again is gonna make a lot of interesting dynamics.
As someone with crap internet speeds and little hope of it getting better. Fast paced online PVP leaves me at a massive disadvantage. Then theres the other thing... Online games rely on active players... Anyone remember the game Due Process? anyone? A great game that died a death.
Only thing that concerns me is that I think there will be a time where you might've not had any "decent" pve pvp fights and will in a desperate attempt to find pvp, for example (although not many) there are times in Tarkov where I'll go 3-8 raids without seeing a reasonably geared player and will honestly be so desperate for PvP that I couldn't care less if I die and will rush some part of the map where it's always hot even without a good spawn or play labs or factory. I do really like the fact that there will be a lot of PvE but I hope there is a spot for pure PvP encounters, I'd argue even that it's needed.
7:30 the comment about there not being any AI besides zombies in DayZ isn't really accurate. At its height back in the day, DayZ's most popular flavor was called EPOCH, which had AI missions spawning throughout the map to create convergence areas where various player groups would fight over loot. Epoch also had persistent base building and economy. If Grey Zone can achieve something similar it will really take off. No game has really filled the niche Epoch left when Gamespy closed its services. We made many friends back then after literal hours long firefights over AI missions. Hours long firefights where 2 or sometimes 3 squads of 4-5 guys would fly resupply and reinforcements in via helicopter. Our squad's best pilot went on to fly helicopters for the US Coast Guard in real life.
Sounds like a game I can get into. The thing about EFT is the gear fear and people who are so much better at the game stuff like that. But if all goes well you better believe I will get this game.
You should look into a game I'm creating called Rings of Battle. We are trying to bring hardcore back to BR. Might be something you'd be interested in.
Im glad they are focusing PVE over PVP as tarkov's current state does lend itself to being fun PVP, currently. and with how things are going in tarkov I'm excited for a game that's not Tarkov like.
So will the safehouses be vulnerable to attack when you're not online? I don't really have that much free time to constantly be playing a game to make sure things are ok with it...
I remember watching a video years ago of 2 PMCs going at it in dorms..it was at night and they were using night vision.. grenades going off that made the lights fall and flicker. The NPC in said video was running low on ammo in his mags and he had to pack a few rounds at a time trying to get a new mag ready so he wouldn't run out. I remember thinking WHAT is this game I need to know more. The rest is history but I'm jaded now due to the cheaters and I haven't played in a while. I'm looking forward to something new.
very cool concept.. only concern is, is there gonna be a team of 4 or 5 giga chads that just absolutely pummel the lobby and no progression can be made? lol if so are there gonna be different servers to join so you can avoid such situations? also will there be a sort of communication with other players such as VOIP or an in game chat? if you already answered the questions i apologize for missing them.... very well put together video btw.. new sub
I see 2 issues with this game and 1 with the devs. 1. The guns sounds basic and samey. 2. The game has no system to learn to which PMC people belong to in order for you to not lose karma by killing them. 3. The devs said in other words that they don't care about players' feedback. They'll just do whatever they want. So if you buy this game, you have to agree with it 100% because you'll be basically paying them so they can build the game they want.
Actually, The current tarkov loop was supposed to be placeholder to do beta test of the game systems. Open world or at least map to map travel was planned since at least I began so I always assumed there wuld be a time when we could stay in raid as long as we wanted or were able. Not so sure now, sounds to me they are just gluing maps together and keeping the raid timer. Also PMC karma was supposed to curb the pvp, making ppl check targets before shooting bc you would be penalized for killing your faction, now it seems it will be a nebulous system that will punish (reward?) ppl that sit in bushes with a exclusive boss fight. Seeing how they are aiming for an early 2025 release, and doing these official tutorials, im pretty sure tarkov wil end up dissapointing me by not delivering the g ame promised. So im glad GZW exists and are being clear about their game loop and start implementing it from the get go.
Honestly the being able to come back after a fight part ruins it for me. This is currently in a different game and turns team fights into never ending battles where people just keep coming back before you can finish looting, or before even finishing the fight when they are holding a house or anything else, either forcing a push or waiting to get ambushed from behind from a guy who already has died.
This is a recipe for disaster. Like playing Lost Light. Returning to the same raid or map makes the game feel sometimes unfair for a number of reasons but, mostly because sometimes there are players far better equipped than you that can kill you easily every time you respawn until you don't have enough resources, that sounds like a formula for people rage quitting.
Eft: knowing where other players spawn, and static extracts, all within the set time frame is biggest flaws in Tarkov IMO The wonder & awe of the game runs thin, knowing where other players are at the start of raid, and extract camping when there's a red timer ruins the immersion. The kill on sight ruins the survival aspect, it's "camp meta spots" that rewards players. I hope faction karma helps that. The best part of Day-Z was encountering a person, and not trusting them. But also sharing supplies like food and meds for surviving. GzW: my main worry is the helicopter. That seems like it'll be the biggest meta to exploit.
Dark and darker doesn't play like tarkov at all, it just has extraction mechanics which is the only similarity. Games like Marauders and all that are very healthy to have because not everyone wants to play Tarkov and not everything has to be Tarkov
Idk how people are saying this game looks/plays worse than eft. It’s literally a pre-alpha/alpha that’s not even out yet. Tarkov has literally been playable for 7-8 years.
I don’t think the fights will be able to be rejoined if you die…. At least for one side. They have preached that the maps will be so big that in order to get into pvp I’d assume you would have to wander into areas much closer to other factions bases. Making it a lot quicker for them to rejoin the fight after dying but not yourself. I know there will be different landing zones your could unlock further away from your base and in turn closer to the other factions but I doubt it’s gonna be the 5-6 min that I’ve heard from people that played the first test. BUT the first test was just a small portion of the entire map so i understand how they were so quick at getting back to their dead bodies. I’d guess with Running across the map to invade for the pvp and also fighting through AI it’s gonna be 15 min for you to get back there.

@@nothingtoaddhere11the chances of this happening on such a large map are slim to none. The devs have stated it would take you 10-15 min on average to go back to most locations to get your stuff. By then if you haven't looted and moved away from that area, then you deserve to lose your stuff.
Excited for this new up and coming game. Glad to see you got into that closed test.
It's more like a permanent arma mod doing ops and quests. Instead of some weird role play op.
6:10 the gun is recoiling through the shoulder fail!
This game will seriously live or die on its ability to prevent hacking.
Bro, MadFinger really came back with a BOOM! 🔥🔥
this is turning out to be a baby between Tarkov, GR: Breakpoint and The division imo, couldn't be more excited
More excited about road to Vostok :D
I don’t trust these extraction games until they actually show they are dead serious about it.
I wasn't really interested in trying it, but now I am. Thanks.
I'm hopeful for this game to work out looks like something I would love as well
Im glad they are focusing PVE over PVP as tarkov's current state does lend itself to being fun PVP, currently. and with how things are going in tarkov I'm excited for a game that's not Tarkov like.
So will the safehouses be vulnerable to attack when you're not online? I don't really have that much free time to constantly be playing a game to make sure things are ok with it...
Lets go! I stopped playing EFT because I don't have the time to enjoy it so I'm hoping more casual players will have a better time with this
Not the cut the The Cycle: Frontier :( Miss that game
The gunplay reminds me of ground branch....looks really fun
I'm dying haha! Love your videos, but this one might take the (carrot) cake. Excellent!
I'm looking forward to something new.
very cool concept.. only concern is, is there gonna be a team of 4 or 5 giga chads that just absolutely pummel the lobby and no progression can be made? lol if so are there gonna be different servers to join so you can avoid such situations? also will there be a sort of communication with other players such as VOIP or an in game chat? if you already answered the questions i apologize for missing them.... very well put together video btw.. new sub
So greyzone is dayz with quests and npcs
PvE-only servers might actually push me to check the game once it releases.
I am super excited for this game and have high hopes would love to run some raids with you in it sometime Jesse. :D
This looks like it is right up my alley. Will probably need to upgrade my GPU at some point though.
Nice fresh review on game mode and playstyle! Could Grey Zone be the next Ghost Recon Original 2.0 (PvE + PvP mission style extraction shooter)?
Let’s see how fast the cheats develop in this game 🥺 I’m rooting for them though
can't wait for this game !!
I am optimistic this game will be good for those who aren't super PVP focused but like tarkov in spite of that being so persistent.
I'm curious to see if GZW will be as clonky as Tarkov. Less Inputlag etc.
So if you buy this game, you have to agree with it 100% because you'll be basically paying them so they can build the game they want.
lmfao at the dark and darker clip. that game is cursed hahahahha
Looks cool! The way they hold guns really really bugs me though....
Thats more like Rust. I need a EFT clone thats just EFT but 200 fps+ and less bugs and better audio
You mean the guns don't Fly all over the Screen? Recoil manageable? Realist?
Honestly the being able to come back after a fight part ruins it for me. This is currently in a different game and turns team fights into never ending battles where people just keep coming back before you can finish looting, or before even finishing the fight when they are holding a house or anything else, either forcing a push or waiting to get ambushed from behind from a guy who already has died.
I've played a lot of arma, a lot of dayz and a lot of tarkov, gzw feels like it might be the next on the list
The only issue I have is that I won't have enough time in a day to play all these games - at least not to an extent I would like to...
Good stuff, you're an excellent communicator
Me an SPT enjoyer :p
This is a recipe for disaster. Like playing Lost Light. Returning to the same raid or map makes the game feel sometimes unfair for a number of reasons but, mostly because sometimes there are players far better equipped than you that can kill you easily every time you respawn until you don't have enough resources, that sounds like a formula for people rage quitting.
Eft: knowing where other players spawn, and static extracts, all within the set time frame is biggest flaws in Tarkov IMO
The wonder & awe of the game runs thin, knowing where other players are at the start of raid, and extract camping when there's a red timer ruins the immersion.
That seems like it'll be the biggest meta to exploit.
i have high hopes for this game but im hoping they emphasize more on content than just vast open maps of nothing.
Hmmm, I'm listening, I miss DMZ so I'm looking forward to this
@JesseKazam Gonna re use this video, appreciate the information.
Arms introduced a lot of the mechanics you’re saying
Dark and darker doesn't play like tarkov at all, it just has extraction mechanics which is the only similarity. Games like Marauders and all that are very healthy to have because not everyone wants to play Tarkov and not everything has to be Tarkov
Learned from Trakov, not touching GSW till final release
Very excited for this!
I hope grey zone is good but I also hope that it gets the attention of bsg and maybe just maybe put pressure on them to step up their game
