Thanks for this video, I am sure we have all been very interested in the EVO and you have graciously brought that forth! I have never paid much attention to the EVO 1 but I was very impressed by its quality! I have the mavic 2Pro which has served me well for over a year.
Just a few observations. Evo 1 4K is identical to the Evo 2. I think its just a matter of the default in-drone settings. They can both be made to look identical in post, so I don't see any real differences. It appears the Evo 1 is biased towards blue. I would have liked to see you do a post production maximum zoom in 4K and 8K (like zooming in on a full frame building for example) to really show off the 8K possibilities. Can you comment on the difficulties in pulling in 8K footage and editing it? What is your video editing platform? Re: props in the shots...I think it comes from flying into the wind. Easily corrected by the pan control. Evo 2 probably has props set higher above the camera lens. Just a note for Autel engineers: Consider electronically syncing shutter speeds to the prop RPM to eliminate the "jello" phenomenon in video with spinning props in them. When you get your hands on the 6K camera, I would like to see a comparison on the pros and cons of a 1 inch sensor. Finally, its obvious you put a LOT of work into this video. Good job!
Love my Evo 1! It's still a beast! 🤙 Great video once again! Just wondering what you meant about the Evo 1 build quality? I have had many drones and find the Evo just as solid as even the Mavic 2 line. Cheers !
Roman Affolter overall feels a lot more solid and well built compared to 1. 1 feels cheap in the hands with the gimbal flopping around and the arms feels weak. The evo 2 feels rugged and everything snaps into place.
I agree with you! I know this is late but other than the camera being a bit flimsy while the drone is off, the drone itself feels pretty solid and well built. The legs do not feel flimsy to me at all! Also, when I pick it up alongside of my Mavic Air 2, it feels much heavier and like a brick in comparison. I guess anything heavier will feel more solid. Still, the Evo 1 is a good drone and I still enjoy flying it.
Can't wait for my Evo 2 Pro! Thanks for the comparison! I agree to "Take this comparison with a grain of salt." Since your comparing a pre production unit vs the Evo1.
Really enjoy all the hard work put on these reviews, I just wished the products was actually available. At least DJI doesn’t allow the reviews to come out unless their product is available to purchase or short thereafter.
Thanks bud for the comparison! Soooo close to pulling the trigger on an Evo, just not sure which one yet... This helps for sure. I think I see some jello effect in the footage. Is this in the raw footage or just an artifact of the upload to UA-cam? Oh, and what's up with the clouds there, should be solid blue sky, yes? LOL. Good Flying!
EVO 1 still rocks. Makes me feel really good about my purchase, even though I haven't unboxed the EVO 1 yet, lol. One day I will. Just purchased it last week.
Great Clip ! 1) FCC and CE specification difference. As you are well aware in the DJI drones (in all but the Mavic Mini) there is only one model and the FCC and CE transmission limits are software controlled by GPS input. Does the EVO have the same or will there be 2 models as the Mavic Mini (one for the FCC areas and one for the CE areas) ? 2) Have you tried a Fake GPS experiment to see the transmission power output ? As you are in the USA you might set the GPS location to Europe and test the transmission power to see if there is a difference. Thank you
Great video man, this is the first video that really lowers my expectations of the Evo 2. Which is crazy cause compared to DJI drones, the Evo 2 kills all of them, but doesn't seem to create a better image than the Evo 1 🤔Hopefully the Evo 2 Pro creates a better image cause this isn't looking good!
Thanks for the comparison. Definitely a little bummed. Not the results I was expecting. I’ll guess I’ll wait and see if it’s worth the upgrade. I would Love to see some of the Evo 2 picture capabilities.
I have to agree with a lot of the comments already posted--Evo 1 seems sharper with better clarity. But like you said, you have a pre-production model. The finished product may be different by the time it comes out. BTW, always impresses me how you can seem to get close to the same flight paths for each shot.
Today I spun up my maiden flight with my EVO in my backyard. I had to jump thru all kinds of hoops to fly my Mavic Mini there. I always fly legally. Sir you have helped this old gamer, drone noob immensely. Pleas more on this drone. Did I make a good buy?? Blame that Originaldobo dude if I did not..... ha, ha.
Great comparison! The images are remarkably similar which is not surprising since they both use a 1/2" sensor. The Evo 1 seems to have more in-camera sharpening than the Evo 2. It's often better to sharpen in post. What's surprising is the softness of the 8K footage when viewed at 4K. I guess, if you have 120 Mbps to work with, it's best to put it all into the frame you want. Did you try HDR?
What the heck, that shows an obvious difference. I pre ordered the Pro which we haven’t seen yet but the 8K does not appear to be on par with the EVO 1 camera. I don’t know what problem they are fixing with the delay but this one needs to be on the list before they ship the first batch.
Great video comparison. Evo 1 is still hanging in there. Prop in shot is not so much a killer considering you have 94 deg FOV. Looks as if the Evo2 is more in the DJI 77 degree FOV spec. With that, props in shot can be cropped, so if filming with the EVO 1 it's good to keep in mind framing the subject area more to the right vs center if you do need to crop. Prop in shot is generally avoided with a gimbal pitch around 5 deg. Other times you may get it from sun shadowing the props, or incorrect shutter settings. One thing Autel did well with Evo 1 was provide a very sharp lens. Even using that smaller sensor, Evo 1 footage is well enough to compete with higher end drones.
phillip coshatt I’ve had the evo since it came out and the props will always be in the camera if you angle the camera too high up. I don’t think the firmware matters to be honest. So every time I fly mine I angle the camera down very slightly just to get the props out the corners.
@@peterc3619 exactly what i do with mines. dont see them at all now. Came here to see a comparison and if i should by the 2. Right now i think im good and gonna sick with my 1

Evo 1 looked better in the grading portion to me, but the dynamic range is slightly better in Evo 2 for sure. So the question is, what will be the difference in the 6k 1 inch to the evo 1?
Do a comparison of the settling time for the gimbal. I know on Evo 1 it can be a problem since the settling back to level horizon can take up to 10 seconds depending upon conditions like wind, and speed of the turn where the tilt occurred. Also do a low light comparison. Thx
I have an EVO I and will not be considering to upgrade as I find it is a great drone and 4K is more than I'll ever need. The video reveals how nice the EVO I is and it's sharper than the II.
I love the demonstration here in comparing the Evo series drones! Excellent job! I just wonder if you know if and when Autel will assign software to allow the camera to look left, right, etc. like DJI and also when will they make software for a smoother zoom as apposed to the 1x, 2x, 3x, etc. I don't like that at all. Thanks in advance.

The Evo 1 looked blue and blurry to me, and the prop in frame is probably due to the off-center gimbal. Still impressive, but it’s your artistry that makes both of them look good.
Does the EVO 2 take 48MP stills right out of the box without having to change a setting? The Mavic 2 Zoom takes 48MP still is Super Res more but I have found it to be gimmicky and sometimes photos are not stitched properly. I was hoping the EVO 2 performed better in this area.
I am interested in the 6K Evo 2 Pro, which records a slow motion with 4K / 120p. Unfortunately there were no pictures of this model yet. Let Autel take the time it takes to challenge DJI with these drones!
I'm so torn on getting an Evo 2 or waiting for the Mavic 3 Pro. The Evo 2 has great specs, but there is something about the footage that doesn't seem right to me. If the M3P can be competitive with pricing and comply with this upcoming FAA Remote ID ruling, it could be a slam dunk.
Wow Aldryn Thank you very much for your usefull video. Please, could you share, as always, the videos (gdrive) Evo II 8K can shoot pictures with HDR and video too?
I really don't see the point of 6 or 8K cameras. Maybe someone can tell me? I mean besides burning up a 128gig sd card in like 5 min? Besides, the Evo 1 4K looked better than the 8K, to me anyway.
Hello I have been a subscriber to your channel and I just love there content. But with my EVO 1&2 there is the problem with the controller charging tablet during operations thus I have to keep a close eye on my controllers power. Do you know of a solution to this problem, or can recommend a better data cable? Thanks
The EVO 1 looks better to my eyes and most likely why Autel pulled the release date of the EVO 2. Within Autel posted message of the delay until March Autel included this odd comment. "This is NOT a set date or time frame, and things can always change". This leads me to believe the issue is more than a software bug.
Doug Moody Autel is an American company...? This is the perfect time for them to launch, when DJI is caught with vastly reduced staff capability and can’t release any of their new drones for a bit.
Autel is NOT an American company. There parent company is in China and all there drones are designed and built in China. They have USA offices in Washington and a VERY small staff after laying off most of their sales staff in 2017.
The Evo 1 camera is fantastic for me! I was going to get the Evo 2 when they said it would launch at the end of January, but since they pushed that back, I went ahead and got the Evo 1 for now. I also have the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom. As someone who does not do any post production edits to the videos I shoot, the Evo 1 with 4k 60fps is right up there with the Mavic 2 Zoom. And just to mention, I am a BIG 60fps fan, no matter the resolution. After watching your videos and others on the Evo 2, I am not seeing where this is a big upgrade, especially since the cost will be around $1,500 or so. I get plenty of flight time with the Evo 1 and I always fly in Sport or Ludicrous mode so obstacle avoidance and the sensors needed for it does not mean much to me. With the initial "hey, a brand new drone" feelings going away, this Evo 2 is shaping up not to be anything special. Quick question; have you received any firmware updates since you got your Autel 2 review model, and if so, how many and did Autel state what the firmware update did? Thank you again for your videos and content! It is much appreciated!!!👍
I’m just randomly watched this video, I just got my first real drone 5 months ago, a Mavic Pro, and I agree 100%! I’ve always been a 60 FPS fan for decades, and immediately I honed in on the 1080 60FPS mode on my Mavic. It’s my standard mode - even though it has a great 4K 30 FPS, because the 60 is just such a tremendous difference in fluidity, it changes any video into something almost like looking out a window at real life! The only time I use 4K is if I’m shooting something really epic and want to preserve maximum detail, or certain scenes with a lot of small details. I was so happy when UA-cam added 60 FPS support years ago. Ironically this video doesn’t appear to have been posted in 60 FPS. He states he downsampled the videos all to 24 FPS, which, no offense to the channel author, is a huge pet peeve of mine lol! I HATE 24 FPS! Unless I’m watching something fake that’s trying to convey a sense of imagination or fantasy like a fiction film, I have little use for 24 FPS. BTW I wrote so much bc I can’t believe you and I are the only ones to recognize this STILL in 2020! I was shooting 60 FPS in 1999 on our 2nd digital still camera which had a 320x240 60 FPS mode! Jimmy Kimmel Live is the only (American) broadcast show that uploads to UA-cam in 60 FPS, and they’ve been doing it for at least 3 years now. (720p60 though for some reason.) Just blows my mind how this has remained the best kept secret in digital video for 20 years....
@@Syclone0044 I agree 100%. 24fps is not appropriate for dynamic drone footage due to the revealed choppiness associated with typical pans and/or low-altitude dollies, particularly when the movement exceeds 6.3 degrees per second, based on typical focal lengths. There's nothing natural or cinematic about artificial choppiness. It's simply nauseating to the audience. Motion blur, on the other hand, is an artistic technique created by shutter speed as a function of framerate, and designed to focus audience attention to a particular aspect of the scene. Otherwise, the world does not blur itself before reaching our brain. The soap opera effect is a thing, but not for typical drone footage. 30fps has been the sweet spot in recent years because it's more forgiving than 24fps with significant motion, and it's widely available at 4k which provides greater post-processing flexibilities. 60fps is optimum when available up through final display, but until the Evo 1 came along it was difficult to find 4k60 in a full-featured, foldable drone. DJI has had the luxury of avoiding cannibalization within their product line-up, but that monopolist strategy must change going forward as the drone market heats up with better competition.
Hi great video's keep going. Can you help me I have Mavic Platinum keeps coming up with "SYS warning Check App" on my controller. What is it talking about and how do I clear it? Thanks regards Richard.
@@FlytPath Hi. Thanks for getting back to me. I do a compass calibration every time I fly. The IMU is all green . Aldryn, question for you. Let me see if I can explain the setup. Let's say you have the EVO 2 or a similar level competitor hovering say 4-5 foot off the ground. Leaving it hovering if you walk toward the quad, will it stay still, move out of your way, or what? Same applies to competitors I have no idea, that's why I'm asking.
Evo 1 looks better, but the prop in the shot? Not good. However, bear in mind this is not the final release of the Evo 2 as far as firmware. I did this video with my Mavic Pro and then with my Mavic 2 Pro, the difference was clear. I'm waiting for the final firmware release on the Evo 2 before I make a decision, because I need a drone that does 4K @ 60FPS: ua-cam.com/video/GLNZUcYvGMc/v-deo.html
The EVO 1 is a great drone as far as the prop in the shot you just have to adjust a gimbal by 6° down and you’ll never see the props,, As far as the build quality it’s fantastic never had any issues with it.. all the video from the EVO 1 was better than What I saw compared to the new one.
@@Poigel Why is it marketing BS? A native 48MP sensor can easily accommodate the 33.2MP crop for 16:9, 8k video in good lighting. The Quad Bayer CFA doesn't affect resolution since that's more a function of luminance to the human eye; the grayscale image is indisputably 8k with no CFA processing. That said, I'm not impressed with the soft results in 8k mode. That may be an SoC limitation, or lack of software optimization, either in-camera, or in post-processing and rendering.
Where can you buy evo 2 right now? I would be very interested with one video about the mode of Evo2 ... very very interested ;-))) and thank you for your nice videos...
The 8k on new autel is a crop or scale and is blurry because it’s fake 8k. How can they advertise first 8k drone when it’s 4K clearly upscale or cropped out????

(720p60 though for some reason.)
Just blows my mind how this has remained the best kept secret in digital video for 20 years....
Birds and parts/ Batteries still not supplied well in Australia , Would like to buy either
autelrobotics.com.au - both bird and battery in stock at the time of writing this.
Evo II on the way - starting at 2.5k.. ouch.
like to see the evo2 6k compare to the 8k
Hi great video's keep going. Can you help me I have Mavic Platinum keeps coming up with "SYS warning Check App" on my controller. What is it talking about and how do I clear it? Thanks regards Richard.
Do the standard IMU and compass calibration for now. See if that clears it
@@FlytPath Hi. Thanks for getting back to me. I do a compass calibration every time I fly. The IMU is all green . I think I've found out what it is, it's the forward camera needs calibration but it won't calibrate on my screen! I'll take it out this afternoon and try it on the lawn. Hopefully that will fix it.... I'll let you know regards Richard
Good news I managed to calibration the forward camera on the grass Thanks for all your help & keep up the good work.... Richard
PS I don't know if any one ells has had the same problem as I did but I couldn't do a calibration with my monitor. Might be a good video to make?
Great Evo 2
Aldryn, question for you.
Let me see if I can explain the setup. Let's say you have the EVO 2 or a similar level competitor hovering say 4-5 foot off the ground. Leaving it hovering if you walk toward the quad, will it stay still, move out of your way, or what? Same applies to competitors
I have no idea, that's why I'm asking.
With avoidance on it will back up as long as there’s nothing behind it.
also looking at the EVO2 just for the obstical avoidance.
The evo 1 has the samething
In my opinion, The Evo 1 produces a more realistic color. The Evo 2 footage, has a magenta cast that I don't like
Hmmm... the 1 looking better to these eyes.
Nooo lol
Damn I was looking forward to getting the evo2 soon 😥 I hope their tweaking some things
Evo 1 looks better, but the prop in the shot? Not good. However, bear in mind this is not the final release of the Evo 2 as far as firmware. I did this video with my Mavic Pro and then with my Mavic 2 Pro, the difference was clear. I'm waiting for the final firmware release on the Evo 2 before I make a decision, because I need a drone that does 4K @ 60FPS: ua-cam.com/video/GLNZUcYvGMc/v-deo.html
thanks
The EVO 1 is a great drone as far as the prop in the shot you just have to adjust a gimbal by 6° down and you’ll never see the props,,
As far as the build quality it’s fantastic never had any issues with it.. all the video from the EVO 1 was better than What I saw compared to the new one.
Christopher W Couldn’t agree more!
The evo1 color balance and saturation looks much more natural.
I recognize your video of dog beach and the train. I rode it many times! I enjoy your videos. Thanks
Still evo 1 is better looking plus wider FOV minus the prop showing?\
Redo this with the 6k Pro version.
Colors look a bit "magenta-y" on the new one.
Looks great to me...of course I'm colorblind.
The props on the 1 always show if you fly 11 or faster.
Good
the 8k looks soft i hope with new softweare gets better.
Felipe Vece unfortunately you can’t make marketing BS better with software
@@Poigel Why is it marketing BS? A native 48MP sensor can easily accommodate the 33.2MP crop for 16:9, 8k video in good lighting. The Quad Bayer CFA doesn't affect resolution since that's more a function of luminance to the human eye; the grayscale image is indisputably 8k with no CFA processing. That said, I'm not impressed with the soft results in 8k mode. That may be an SoC limitation, or lack of software optimization, either in-camera, or in post-processing and rendering.
Wow, EVO1 all the way. I just saved a bundle on my car insurance, I mean, not buying an EVO2 to replace my EVO :)
Freedom Drone 👍
Hi ✋😃👍
Where can you buy evo 2 right now? I would be very interested with one video about the mode of Evo2 ... very very interested ;-))) and thank you for your nice videos...
you cant...its been postponed
The 8k on new autel is a crop or scale and is blurry because it’s fake 8k. How can they advertise first 8k drone when it’s 4K clearly upscale or cropped out????
Gotta have the GPC plug-in LOL EVO 2 footage looks much better quality. Yeah 8K not so good however.
If you have the Evo 1 no reason to git the Evo ll unless you're making professional videos. Thanks for that info
Evo 2 has a magenta cast that's present in sony mirrorless cameras
EVO 1 is way better, sharp and all i n focus. EVO2 is softer like interpolated???
This is disappointing me. The Evo 1 looks better at all times.
#like592 nice machine. I joined your channel Ttys God bless
