    ‎ Ever wonder what a pet store chain looks like in Germany? Cory visited Megazoo and saw their amazing aquatics section that had all sorts of fish you normally expect in a fish store - including Mbu puffers, stingrays, arowana, clouded archers, halfbeaks, and zebra otocinclus. They also had aquarium plants, CO2 cylinders, aquascaping materials, and scaping stations. They hire actual aquarium hobbyists to design and maintain the large aquascapes in the store.

      It's a matter of exposure to this aspect of the hobby - not just the "kids tank" that gets used for maybe 6 months and then sold on FB Marketplace - complete with all the little sample packs of food and water conditioner. And as millenials and gen Zz opt for pets over children in larger numbers all the time, the hobby could truly explode, especially if you could shop like this and see lots of healthy fish and knowledgable people. I'd work PT in a store like this just to share the hobby and educate others on how to succeed :D
      I'm setting up my 9th tank right now, a biotope. 99% of what I am using that was purchased was ordered online, including the fish. My area is an aqua desert.

      Had one 1/3 this size at most but similar by having the good stuff as well and they did okay for awhile but there just wasn't enough constant business for them. As someone who has lived in the U.S. and in various countries in Europe, I think most people in the states would be shocked how so many things are vastly better in Europe. I think in the states there's certain ways of doing things that are so convenient and better like drive thru banks or super fast delivery for certain online shopping but there's just a level of quality that's missing and this video highlights that.

    • @ScruffyCityAquatics
      @ScruffyCityAquatics 2 роки тому

      That is interesting. So you believe we have traded convenience for quality? I think I agree with that.

      @@ScruffyCityAquatics I think it's been a very slow process over the last 40-50 years and it wasn't on purpose. I think America demanded convenience and that's what was delivered. Over many years the convenience and perhaps to a certain extent price point, has slowly eroded the quality. I think even just 10 or 20 years ago it was there but maybe wasn't as obvious. Now the gap is really clear.

    I feel like this is what Aquarium Adventures tried to do in the Suburbs of Chicago. But over the years they have fallen victim to the same lame cichlids, angel fish, and tetras. Slowly getting rid of any of the rare and exotic freshwater fish. IMO American businesses are more interested in turning a profit on easy to churn through fish, rather than keeping a selection of the hard to find stuff for true aquarium hobbyists.
