Ive watched and listened to 100s of hours of JBP's content. His "controversal thinking" has saved countless lives including my own. I went from a pathetic heroin user to finishing college and maintaining a full-time job. The fact that he is considered a "controversal thinker" is just unacceptable. This man is nothing short of brilliant.

I was living a very nihilistic and drug addicted life. The lessons I learned from listening to every single one of his videos gave me an entire new out look on life. Was of 1/9/18 I have a nine months clean off heroin/opiates. He is most definitely the biggest factor in me being able to stay clean. By telling the truth in all situations which gave me my self respect back and by picking up my responsibilities and better myself by helping friends, family and even strangers my life slowly but surely got better. Thank you Dr Jordan Peterson I don't think I could say I'm clean now have 9 months clean. I have my moments of weakness but anytime I get the urge for a potential relapse I watch particular videos of his that give me the stength overcome. More people news to hear what Dr Peterson has so to say I think he's one of the most important people in the English speaking and he can change the lives of so many as long as they're willing to listen to what he has to say. This man can change the world and I believe he's only getting started.

Hmm... I love Dr. Peterson, and he seems to be on his way to something; but Jung was prolific on another level. Also, had more time. It would be like comparing a rising tech entrepreneur to Thomas Edison. Give it some time.

Grantley Gibbons Photography I too found dominance offensive until I began to understand the advantage of seeing it as an internal mechanism. By this I mean acting in a way that you do not denigrate yourself. An example of this would be the CBT model of assertiveness. I have found I’m able to adapt and accrue a sense of inner authority and have therefore began to reinterpret dominance quite suitably without the degree of prejudice I once had.
To your credit you're not in the deepest grasps of naivete. If you were, you would have never watched a video like this.

@@lukelloyd9607 Real dominance comes from competence and people that can not compete due to not understanding the system they want to compete in due to naivety often see the most successful as someone who hurt them directly due to no giving up like most of the people that are resentful do. It's the constant misrepresenting of competence with violence and success with tyrannical domination.

I have studied a great deal in my life and I am convinced that Dr Jorden Peterson will be recognized in history as a man who contributed a great deal to the betterment of mankind and one of the greatest minds of our century.
John W. Peterson I agree. Plato, JFK, MLK, Jefferson. He's fighting a war with his intellect--a war we have to win or we will descend into the hell that communism ALWAYS brings to those foolish enough to fall for its lies.
He deserves to be remembered that way in the future. Hopefully he will and the regressives don't win out in the end.

Peterson has indeed touched a nerve. He has brilliantly and bravely articulated what so many have been thinking and feeling about our PC world. He has dragged dangerous ideologies out into the light and emboldened people to speak up.
I have watched all his videos, read his book, and it has changed me for the better, and once in a while when i feel i might slip i rewatch some of them, as a reminder of the journey i have undertaken. You did a brilliant job on the documentary it was a good distillation of what he was telling us all along kudos on a job well done, and thank you very much

His book is a masterpiece. He explains things on so many different levels and makes concepts most fascinating. The problem for me was that I'd want to ponder the ideas put forth and this made progress slow. I was offered a 30 day trail with Audible, through Amazon, so now I'm listening to the book AND its being read by Jordan Petersen. So, I know what you mean. Thoughts in me are syncing and I feel something in me changing. It's positive and lasting.

Ross Ramyeon for starters i formed habits that are conducive to my well being, i wake up early, clean my room workout, i quite my worst habit, which was smoking weed, i work out and i work better and more often. But if i could name one thing he taught me to embrace responsibility instead of seeing it as a burden

I'm not sure how much time I've spent listening to him but it's probably messured in weeks! Every second was worth it.
This is absolutely bloody brilliant, and should be must watch content for ALL Canadians. It would help sort our society out quicker than we could probably imagine.

So i was hella depressed when i discovered Jordan Pederson and ive put in probably about 100 hours or so into his stuff. Im still depressed but just listening to him talk about depression and fear has taught me that im allowed to be depressed and scared. That's just because life aint what i imagined it should be and thats ok.

Jordan Peterson is one of the most important things that happened to me during my adult life. It really sent my life into a spiral, which I am immensely grateful for.
I've never felt more purposeful and powerful and in contact with myself and those around me, his book is also an absolute must read for people, specially young men.
A brilliant thinker and doer... but why controversial? Why does plain common sense have to be controversial?
Jonathan Skeet His, and I would say Western societies critics are ideologically possessed, he mentions it only briefly in this doc. You cannot reason with the ideologically possessed, they do not believe in reason and intellectual thought. They do not believe in being rational. That is why they’re so dangerous.

Common sense requires common knowledge, and so many young people are being brainwashed by the postmodernist teachers, the mass media, and censorship of ideas that the authoritarian types consider 'wrong think', that many of these children are never taught 'common sense'. It is really very sad what is being done to the kids that do not have a strong family base.
I love this man. I think he is truly good. His viewpoint informs how I try to live and how I teach my son. My 15-year-old who says, "No more Jordan Peterson videos!" but watches them when he's alone.

My god, when I listen to him speak, I have nothing but gratitude. I can’t help but think that I am finally living in a time where I can observe a great mind as he lays out his life long thesis. This man will be remembered as one of the great thinkers of our time. I only hope we have at least a decade or two left with his wisdom before he’s gone.

@@rmcguire7033 Because there are those who benefit from people's ignorance and actively work to stifle the enlightenment of mankind. Consciously and subconsciously. The idea of incarnating the Logos for instance, does not necessarily benefit the individual, at least not in a temporal instantly gratifying way. Because it addresses destiny and purpose beyond the scope of an individual lifetime.
Selfishness has trouble rectifying itself with that, and therefore avoids, condemns, and tries to undermine it in others because of the mirror it holds up. That reflection essentially charges them with the same duty, the same responsibility, and they, for varied reasons, are unfit to accept it. So they attempt to dismantle it, to rid themselves of the pressure to transcend, because in their minds, 'enlightenment,' or power, belongs to Them....
That's alot of words I used, but I'm basically saying that theres a direct real reason that it isnt more widespread- it's because understanding and transcending self is neither easy nor rewarding, often times. Its brutal in fact. It means staring suffering in the face. People dont like suffering. People dont like people who suggest doing it either.

JP has mastered the art of being radical, compelling, and amiable at the same time. It makes him very effective.
The last 5 minutes of this documentary are extraordinarily profound. The words are fairly simple, but the meaning/implications are astounding.
I've been around a long time, Peterson's the real deal.
We need more people like him in the world! I now try everyday to challenge the norm in my life.
I am not as smart as he is(obviously, I am sure I have made several grammar mistake already), but I do think its important to keep our kids from suffering and paying the price for our issues and misguided ideologies.

Essential teachings. I'm thankful for having discovered his videos a few months ago and I've embarked into a journey into myself with only one greatest regret: having not undertaken it earlier in my life.

A few months ago i experienced that transcendent state of mind for a very short moment. And I can tell you, it’s something I will never forget. I just woked up on a Sunday morning, free from drugs and alcohol (i used to party a lot). I was getting for the gym when it hit me. Everything was aligned, my whole self felt right, I didn’t even know it was happening to me until i snapped out of it. Since then I’ve had some downfalls but I’m getting back on track to get there again. Thanks for everything Dr Jordan Peterson.
This man has changed my life. The first time i felt the existence of the Logos was finding Christ. years later I left the church alone and felt there was more...and i went looking....but life is hell like Dr PETERSON says and i found out how much of a monster i am...Drugs woman money and violence.... violence in every sense of the word...all pushed forward by this rage....this endless mind-blowing rage....one day after loosing so much....a baby ...the woman i love...the house the money....just loss....i was listening to eric thomas...and saw a 11 minute video about becoming a monster.... I thought... shit i already am a monsters...and minute by minute...Dr PETERSON pieced the previous 4 years of m6 life.. my fall from grace...my inability to find meaning as a consequence of me letting go of my responsibility... He explained to my heart why i was in rage...who i was hurting and why i had stepped and trampled on the one person i never have loved .. . myself....then i broke the chains...i realized iwas toxic and had allowed others to treat me so bad that i had no respect for myself....litte by little i starting building myself up....a few years back i had money.....was financially stable....and I'm not there now....but ias much of a hole that i might ve in now......im so happy that i know now where im going and that i can control the monster......even the girl i love has noticed.. .and shes as excited as i am of the coming conquest.....and i owe it all to this man.. Dr PETERSON i truly value your life and i feel its my dutyy as a man who has received this wisdom to use it and implicate it in my life and to take responsibility for all i am and do.... My grandfather embodied the logos, at least in my eyes. He was a strong believer in God and Jesus Christ, which is what I am certain crystallized his drive to follow what he knew was right. For me, it has been my grandfather that I have tried to emulate as best I can, and who crystallized my drive to do what I know is right.
Having recently discovered for myself the teaching of Dr. Peterson, I am convinced he is breaking new ground in our understanding of ourselves, and is bringing to light what we can do to right the ship.
Ours is a spiritual battle always has been always will. Fantastic documentary. Love JP another light in our deeply troubled world. Only heroism courage and nobility will unleash the forces necessary to restrain the evil that is abroad.

Gnostic heresy? The idea that a person can become like Jesus is the basis of Christianity. St-Athanasius of Alexandria, who is the mover behind the Council of Nicea, said: For the Son of God became man so that we might become God. The gnostics denied the incarnation, so many of them denied that Christ died on the cross. How can you listen to Jordan insist on embodiement and then mention gnosticism as the source of his ideas? I know being a heretic is cooler in a 60s counter-cultural way, but hopefully we are trying to get away from that.
Hi Jonathan, Alexander from Rebel Wisdom here. Thank you for the thoughtful comment. The section on the Gnostic heresy is indeed poorly worded in that it implies becoming as Christ is distinctly Gnostic, when of course it isn’t. We apologise for that, and we will add an explanatory note in the video summary.
It would be great to clarify why it’s in there though (and what is meant by it!) - I’ve tried to do this below and would love to hear your thoughts on where we’re coming from by saying that Dr. Peterson’s work has ‘echoes’ of the Gnostic heresy.
Where I see the similarities in Dr. Peterson’s thinking and the Gnostic heresy is in the core Gnostic idea that it is gnosis (the divine knowledge within each individual), not faith, that is the key to salvation.
I have heard no assertion to the contrary in any of Dr. Peterson’s talks, but please do correct me if I’m wrong. I would also like to reassert that Gnostic is a term a bit like ‘Celtic’ - it encompasses many different groups with different beliefs. Having studied the Nag Hammadi scrolls I would argue that many of the ‘Gnostics’ had much more in common with the Hellenic mystery schools than with early Christians.
The key difference I think it’s interesting to discuss in the context of your post is *how* one becomes like Christ. For at least some of the Gnostics who wrote the Nag Hammadi gospels, it is through a personal transcendental experience of ego-death - not through faith, and not through the church.
The psychological model they drew in their Sophia / Christos mythos remains a deeply compelling psychological model today, and is bizarrely close to Jungian psychology - so much so that Jung held a deep fascination with them The ‘Hypostasis of the Archons’ and ‘The Apocryphon of John’ in the Nag Hammadi Codices feature this myth heavily if anyone is interested in reading the original texts.
This following is a heavily summarised version of the Sophia/Christos mythos, but I’ll give it a shot. There is in the centre of all things a timeless, transcendent reality is called the Pleroma. It contains 30 Aeons (what we might now call archetypes) - each embodying masculine and feminine polarities. Our universe of matter was created when two of these Aeons (Sophia and Christos) split apart, and Sophia left the Pleroma. Because of this split, and Sophia’s divine influence on the world of matter outside the Pleroma, she accidentally created a broken mimicry of divinity, a false godhead (in fact they describe it as an abortion). This is Yahweh, the God of the old testament.
Yahweh is not the true God in the Gnostic mythos - he is a broken reflection of the Pleroma who controls the world of matter. Sophia tells him there is a power higher than him, and he refuses to believe her. In a sense, Yahweh doesn’t exist. In the scrolls he and the Archons are described as almost machinelike - with no capacity for ennoia - divine creativity. All he can do is mimic the Pleroma - creating a false reality around himself (and human beings) in an attempt to convince himself and us that he is the one true God. It’s a fascinating myth - Yahweh is an entity that doesn’t exist, trying fervently not to realise he doesn’t exist.
For the Gnostics, this is the ego, and Yahweh was the ultimate ego in the sky. The church, the tax collector, the Romans - they were all under his influence, operating egoically without a connection to the ground of being, and as such could not bring people to genuine enlightenment. They could only create paltry mimicries - ceremony and a forced order in place of direct personal experience of the divine nature at the heart of all things.
Because Yahweh creates a world of false perception around each individual, it is only by freeing themselves from his influence that people can become aligned with true reality. In other words, by aligning the ego with the the totality of the Self, one aligns with the divine (and thus becomes like Christ). In the Apocryphon of John, John asks Christ who can be saved, and Christ’s answer is that it’s those who come into contact with the true Spirit (the Pleroma) who receive salvation, while those who are dominated by the counterfeit spirit (Yahweh) will receive damnation. In the Gnostic gospels, Christ is an embodiment of an individual who has done this, bringing light into the darkness and modelling salvation. His resurrection or crucifixion aren’t necessary for our salvation according to the Gnostics - what’s required is for the individual to connect to the divinity that already exists in and around them, using Christ as a model and a guide.
This requires a surrender into the totality of being and a recognition that there is a transcendent truth of a higher order than your own ego (the Self). When the ego takes its rightful place within the self - not split off from it - we embody divinity. Personally, I know of no way to do this *reliably* other than through peak mystical experience combined with horizontal self development.
So to return to your post - the intent of that section in the documentary is to draw parallels with the how we might become as Christ (by going into the unconscious, integrating the archetypes and aligning ego and Self to have a direct, lived experience of your own divinity) rather than the *what* (that we can become like Christ in the first place). I realise this is a very long post, but Gnosticism is a very big topic and it’s hard to explain where we see the parallels unless enough context is given. Hopefully it clarifies some of the confusion the poorly worded section might have created - I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Rebel Wisdom so could we say that Peterson initially appears Christological in his emphasis on sanctification but follows a gnostic mechanism for obtaining it? Since the gospel of John introduces Jesus by declaring him to BE the Logos (the logos became flesh and walked among us), Peterson is distinctly gnostic (and in direct conflict with orthodox Christianity) by rejecting the divinity of Jesus, which the Bible teaches is the the way that the cosmos is ultimately reconciled with the perfect and divine God and His Kingdom.
Ironically, in today's world, people with Peterson's view who would once be the biggest enemy of Christianity are now one of it's only allies, since they at least ascribe some meaning and truth to the Biblical scriptures.
Jonathan Pageau Hey Jonathan I'm a huge fan of you and Peterson. I have been greatly moved by the messaging. I have so much to learn. I have been playing around with this idea that words themselves are archetypes. I believe that the materialist type implicitly imply a sort of objective universal meaning to words. They almost embody that in the same sense as Peterson attempting to embody the logos. But every single word can have a slightly different meaning to each individual. So at best it is only an approximation of meaning. So alot of things seen as different are really the same. The truth wearing different clothing if you will. I believe that the phenomena that words represent, means more then the vibrations in air. I believe this to be, the fundamental disconnect. If we look at the phenomena that is God per se. Which symbolize infinite wisdom, perfection, absoluteness the Greater good etc. We all believe in that in some sense, tho some do it unconsciously. So it makes it almost impossible to deny God's existence in a psychological sense. What are you thoughts?
I've got plenty of kvetches with JBP's theology but Gnostic wasn't at all in the ballpark of any of them. He's far too much of a scientist and a Darwinist to be tagged with this label. If anything he's looking for a materialist/evolutionist justification for spiritual belief (like Jung). Gnostics following the Greeks thought that spirit or "form' was foundational and material derivative. This line for me nearly discredits what was shaping up to be a helpful documentary.

Okay, I've subbed to your channel because of this comment. The video was good and Jordan is a legend, but this comment feels to me closely in alignment with what Jordan speaks of when he talks of personal responsibility - for one's own salvation.
This is the first time I have come across Gnosticism, but I will look into it further. I have followed Buddhism/Zen/Taoism more closely than the western religions I was born into, but your description reminds me of my personal experiences with meditation.

Me too, I really needed this guy from about the age of eight. My childhood and teen years were a mess and I did several things I am ashamed of, but having spent the last fifty years trying to self analyse myself in a real effort to understand who I am I have come a long way down the path that Jordan speaks of. It has been slow and complicated and difficult but it has bought me to the point of not considering Jordan radical at all, he just speaks the truth. Many of his ideas are ideas that I have come to and continue to explore, but he certainly speaks of them more eloquently and succinctly than I can.
