CARTOON BRUSHES: Cartoon Brushes are my go-to for Professional Logos, Cartoons, Mascots, and Branding. Use Cartoon Illustrator Brushes with the Pen, Pencil or Paint Brush Tools to Apply different Line Variation to your Vector Artwork.
COMIC STRIP BRUSHES: Hand-painted and Comic Strip Brushes to get a lived-in feel back into your Vector Art. Comic Strips and Hand Painted are painted based on some of my favorite artists and cartoonists. These brushes are designed to look ready for the Sunday Paper.
MASCOT BRUSHES: Jittery Hand, Caffeinated Cartoonist, Rough Ink Brushes to Mimic Paper Bleed and Caffeine. Designed to be a little less stiff with your vector art. Use these Brush Libraries to get more of a distressed look or ink bleed back in your own Vector Artwork.

Great vids! For some reason I can't find your resource form though. But this is awesome! Keep it up!
Check your pop up blockers in your web browser if you don't see the form on the home page. You can also try another browser, but I would check in your settings first.
Another mystery solved,thank you!
i always watch your tutorials and its very easy to understand, specially for someone like me who's just starting in illustrator.. i just wanted to ask where did u get your brushes, did u download them?
Have you gone to jasonsecrest.com to get the resource files and brushes? All the anchor point guides, swatches, and brushes are there. Once you have the resource folder link you can download the brush library and install it as shown in the video.

Hey Jason, the signup for resource folder section didn't show up on Firefox until I tried another browser IE and found it. May be you need to update your site. And love your tutorial by the way!
Uh Oh. Thank you for letting me know. Did the contact form not show up? Just a blank space or was it an error message?
Still not work. But in chrome. Thanks man who wrote message about browsers support problem. I tried in Edge, and it's worked.
Till this date it did show me in firefox so it might be fixed by now
Jason thank you for the wonderful tutorials! For some reason my tinted brush set doesn't show the tint like yours. Do I have to adjust my settings?
Can you change the color while they are still live? If you are able to pick a color they should be good. You can also open up the brush panel options to see if tinted is selected for colorization.
It will be subtle but if you place a black segment or square filled directly next to it you might see it. For this tutorial you can use the normal cartoon brushes, I’m pretty positive we color them to brown after we expand and do the cleanup.
@@JasonSecrest Yes, I am able to pick a color. I guess mine wasn't showing as much tint as yours. After a closer look, I notice the tint. Thanks for the awesome tutorials!
I've seen some other people use the slice tool to do shadows and highlights. Is there a benefit to using the slice tool over the knife? Or is it just another method to get the job done?
I would double check they are using the slice. They look really similar. The slice tool is usually used with your artboard tool to divide up the artboard itself not individual objects. Think of it as a webpage or an indesign layout. Here is the link to slices: helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/slices-image-maps.html
thanks
I have used the pen tool to draw my character, now I'm trying to change each line with a brush. When I try to select one line some of them are grouped together in a "shaper group". Why cant I select each individual line. Hope this makes sense.
Could you do a in depth video on the live paint tool? I can do all the inking but when I do the live paint it isn't working for me.
If you access to the resource folder and challenge pages the rest of the videos are already up. So there is a full video for live paint for day 3 if you want to check your email for the challenges link.
If live paint isn't working: Have you expanded your brushes? (If you were using the eraser tool you should have already done this step) I like to unite before doing live paint. Select all- Object Live Paint. Are you getting the red outlines when you go over the shapes with the live paint bucket tool (k)?
These are soooo great
Hey Jason so I went on your site to download the brushes but it says there is no application file present ? what do I do to gain access to it?
hi thank you for the tutorial :-) i can find the cartoon brushes tinted brush can you please help !!!
link for brushes is in the description
Hey Jason, I haven't saw any Download button in the upper right hand corner of in your folder webpage at all.
Are you in the dropbox folder? Upper right corner - download - direct download. It is the only thing in the right hand corner so if you can't see it you might be on the wrong page.
Thank you much now I found ...
So is it absolutely necessary after expanding/cleaning up the lines to then unite them via pathfinder? I am working on a drawing, and after cleaning up/expanding after I do "unite" it messes up some of the lines? One of the lines gets filled and can't be fixed after uniting, not sure why this is happening for me
I just figured out why, it was one of the ghost lines/artifacts from having expanded...boy, is there anyway to avoid that happening, why do the artifacts occur from expanding?
When you are expanding your brush lines remember to:
1. Expand Appearance. (this will expand the brushes we added)
2. *Expand. (This will expand the other paths without variation) This is the one people forget.
3.All of your brush work should be in a shape before you Unite.
*Pay attention to remove fills when using your pen/pencil tool.
Thank you for these tips and your videos, enormously helpful.
Is the main difference between expand and expand appearance is that expand appearance expands effects to their visual appearance while expand expands fills and strokes? I am just trying to think them both through
You are correct Evan! Expand Appearance will refer to your Appearance Panel (Sun Icon) which is all of your Live/Active Filters, Effects, Warps.
Any idea why expand appearance is greyed out?
Nevermind, i figured it out.
The lines I edited with the brushes are grey and I can't get them black:( Help!
If you are using the tinted brushes the lines will appear grey. (Hence the tinted in the title (white)) The normal cartoon brushes are black. The grey lines really don't matter as you are in the inking phase. We will expand all the lines when we are cleaning up and at that point you can select all and fill everything with black. The tinted brushes were created for those who were looking to color their lines on the fly rather than wait until the cleanup phase.
Hi! Great tutorials btw. they're straightforward and easy to follow. I've been to your website: jasonsecrest.com but haven't found any live links for downloading the brushes or resources. Can u help pls!!
