Just got to look for deals and then press them. Used PRS Core are pricey though, but you know you can haggle. I'm 68 with playing difficulties but I'm going to enjoy my hobby till I can't.
Get a PRS DGT SE. Same kind of price as a decent Epiphone. But trust me it’s an amazing guitar for any price. Easy to play, the neck is kind of like a Gibson, it’s really lightweight and ergonomic. I have to flame top with the birds on the neck and it is stunning. But they also just released a super stripped down guitar with a bolt on neck and no maple top for under $600 usd. It still has the birds on the neck and comes on some different colour wood stains, from dark to bold. Same hardware and electronics as in models that cost 3 and 3 times the price

I play guitars I like. I have several epiphone LP’s, a few Gibson LP’s, a few USA fender strats, fender USA tele and a Squier tele. I love all of them. I had a prs se Zach Myers, awesome guitar, but I sold it because I didn’t play it much. Guitars are just…awesome.
It's a bit costly and will take a bit of time , but PRS can modify the CE into a CE24-08 as far as switching goes. My CE24 Semi-hollow had a finish problem from new. Sent it in for warranty work and had them modify it while it was there. I love the 24-08 switching. For me it was an awesome mod!
I have a PRS core and two SE’s as well as Gibson Les Paul standard and I love all of them. The PRS’s are easier to play as the body shape sits better on me.
I've got a PRS SE Standard 24-08 which is much easier to play to me like a Les Paul. The workmanship quality is very good, not only for the price of € 650. Love the tiny toggle switches for coil split and the tremolo. Sounds good, looks good, very good playability - i couldn't be happier with my PRS!
Well I've got a PRS McCarty 594 SE which I'm sure everyone knows going for the tones and feel of a 59 Les Paul and does it for less then a grand. Does it very well and I've no complaints. Also it's in Heritage Cherry, which everyone knows is the best color.
I correctly guessed the Les Paul in the tone test - probably because I own an LP Standard HP2 with Burstbuckers. Either that or it was blind luck... Either way, I'm not a big fan of the Burstbuckers - they're too bright in my guitar. My Studio HP has the 490R/498T pups and they produce that 'instant Thin Lizzy/Gary Moore' tone. It's what I wanted from an LP and has become my favourite as a result. I don't own a core PRS but if I did the CE model would be my choice. I have a couple of PRS SE Santana models and whilst they are perfectly good, I rarely play them. I probably should sell them. I wouldn't miss them 🤷♂
I got the guitars right. The CE has a clearer sound, almost Hi-Fi. It's made super well and the 85/15s are great. The Gibson was not as clear. And despite owning a CE, I'm not sure if I prefer one over the other. Both can sound great.
Had a LesPaul years ago, man it was heavy, couldn't get use to it so got rid of it. I'll be curious to try the Les Paul Modern Lite, might be more manageable. If you could get that in for a review that would be great!
Yes Gibsons have the shortest scale lenght, super comfy for chords and riffs, but frets can get very small by the end of the fretboard, Fenders have the longest scale, you have to stretch a little bit more, but a fender scale neck with a good slim compound radius is just fantastic.
@beefnacos6258 PRS offers the 245 (also the Zack Myers) that have a 24.5 scale length. Even shorter than a LP. Strings bend really easy and it inspires me to do more bendy type playing. My CE or Custom 24 guitars encourage maybe a bit faster and more technical playing. Going back and forth take a maybe 20 seconds to settle in.
It took me right til the end to figure the Gibson was Y. Just the tone with the drive tipped me to lean that way. I'm happy with my guess. I know it was 50/50, but I was actually trying, lol
I’ve bought a Gibson standard 60s LP about a year ago, up till then I had copy’s. I have to say the copy’s come now where close to the real thing. I have a 1999 Ibanez 570 I bought new. I like the Gibson the best out of the 6 guitars I own. Love the playability and tone.
PRS can get super expensive with the fancy maple tops. I recommend the most affordable American made line , the S2. I have an S2 Custom 22 semi-hollow. It plays and sounds so good. They can be had used for $1200-$1500.
After 50+ years of playing I've gotten over big name branding when looking for a guitar. There's so many choices, and good ones, for affordable prices. So, I guess I was never a guitar collector just an avid guitar abuser...if that makes sense? I play hard. Have a PRS CE24 that now hangs on the wall when I go out to gig. Meh. My current #1 is an Ibanez GIO, and my backup a Yamaha Pacifica. Neither are top of the line but both serve by purpose very well. 🤘😉
I think both of them sound fairly similar, for the most part. I preferred the neck pickup on X, but the bridge on Y. As for a Gibson v. PRS opinion? I have a love-hate relationship with guitars from both companies. I'll take whichever one feels right in my hands and makes the noises I like.

Same boat. First guitar was a squier affinity, and everytime I tried out another brand, I wouldnt like the feel as much as my Squier, so I ended up getting a Fender. Also I'm just more used to the Fender stratocaster control layout, I really don't like the Les Paul's pickup selector placement or having 2 volume knobs.
@@manofthepeople2165 yeah. I get it. I have the tele, esquire, strat, deluxe, and jazzmaster. I just can't seem to get epiphone or gibson. The feel is off. I do like the mustang though. Extremely comfortable. But I was forbidden after the esquire build.
I have a PRS Tremonti but it’s an SE so I don’t think it counts on hate meter since a big PRS complaint is high price for low resale value I have a Gibson SG and even some Gibson lovers hate SGs I love both guitars the SG I love more, the tone the feel and I don’t have crippling neck dive issues like some complain about
I have 3 SE's & enjoy playing them very much (594 Double Cut, Silver Sky Rosewood, Custom 24 Quilted). PRS's are well made and sound great. Gibson LP's are too expensive. I can't justify the cost, when I can get almost as nice a guitar in the Epi 59 Inspired by Gibson Limited Edition Standard LP which I have.
Nothing against PRS, never felt in love with it, but the ones I played were nice guitars. Now regarding Gibson, and Fender for that matter, there's nothing today done by them that can't be done by any other maker. I respect tradition and how they shaped music history, but I don't play history, I play guitars. And my money is too hard earned for me to justify spending what these brands ask for compared with what is delivered by them. With Gibson there's even the shitty QC that's almost legendary at this point. PAFs are PAFs because each one of those were made differently, same with the bursts. And then there's the legal bs and the play authentic. Now, if money is no problem to you, then chose whatever. But, to me, even if I could buy a murphy lab, I'd look somewhere else with that kind of money.
I love PRS and Gibson but I’m not going to pay Gibson prices. That’s a personal preference. It doesn’t help that all the Gibson guitars I like are only available in right handed guitars and I play left handed. I just build my own guitars.
I love my PRS S2 McCarty 594 and my 2019 GC exclusive Gibson LP Special with P90’s. But I really can’t see myself ever putting out the cash for each companies more expensive offerings. Just can’t justify the value proposition considering what you can get for less. Maybe something used one day if I my stupid GAS demands it.
People hate on Gibson because they are overpriced and going for the cashed up midlife crisis market. But they do make great sounding instruments. PRS are on fire. They don’t have the double edged sword of being associated with the founders of rock music, so they are free to tweak and change without people complaining. I think the foundational design of PRS guitars are way more guitar player focused, and as time goes on new players will have little emotional and inspirational attachment to guitars of the 1960s. New players will pick up PRS and just feel that they play better. I love a Gibson LP, but when the playing gets hectic, I have to navigate that brick of a neck join. Whereas my PRS never takes me out of thinking about the notes.
Well, I don't hate my PRS, and I have one of the least desirable, poorest selling models ever...an '08 McCarty II with the dreaded (gasp!) MVC. An online store had a bunch of these dust collectors at about 1/2 price a while back and I figured what the heck. Actually, the MVC can produce great tones, it just eats those two 9v batteries like a house afire. Without fail one will die while you're blasting out your brilliant cover of FreeBird. However, I learned that played passively, the thing sounds great, and breathed new life into my former closet queen. Plus I get most of the other PRS perks, like great build, fantastic neck, decent top (not 10), birds, and, honestly, pride of ownership. Also in my 70s, playing since '66.
People say, PRS has no soul…what guitar does??…really, I wanna know…people say, ooh that guitar sounds “vintage”…what does that even mean…I have a lotta questions 🫤
Well in my search for the perfect guitar I have aquired quite a few brands. I love my Gibsons and Fenders. I have a few PRS models as well but never got along with them as well. I gave up on the perfect guitar and started loving each for what it is... and what it is not because it is what it is. Only one brand I actually hate.....
Fortunate to own the guitars. Once I had no choice and no guitar and they were all perfect. Now I have choice and guitars and they're all still perfect. Gratefully, music always mattered more. Just don't get me started on Steinways.
I like Gibson guitars so much that I am opportunistically seeking to fill out my guitar rack with a few more over the next several years. Unfortunately, I don’t have nearly the same affection for Gibson’s spiraling price increases, quality control, or the way they have tried to throw their weight around lately. For PRS, I always liked their look but found their sound to be a little antiseptic and neutral. I then bought an SE and realized how biased I was because I had always used Fender and Gibson as a reference point rather than considering PRS as having its own sound. From this perspective, it’s less that PRS has no soul and more that Fender and Gibson are very idiosyncratic. PRS guitars are like very clean electrified acoustics with a moldable sound profile that is more versatile than either Fender or Gibson. Now I am in the market for another PRS SE CE when updated colors are released.
Insightful comment re: PRS. Finely tuned, consistent etc. which for some = 'bland', I guess. I have played a Gibson LP Custom since 1974, a lovely Japanese made Strat sine 1979 (and a few other guitars along the way) but I bought the PRS SE Custom 24:08 on sale and I'm really enjoying it - in part because the split-coil combos are fun, but also because I mainly go for 'clean' tones so I appreciate the definition . . . and that's just from the stock pick-ups!
Got it right no problems. Could absolutely hear the difference between the 10" radius of the prs vs the 12" of the gibson 🤪 Kidding obviously... chances of getting it right were 50/50 🤷🏻♂️
most guitar companies make good instruments. Most people find one, or a couple companies that makes a certain guitar (or type of guitar) they're looking for... and that company becomes their favorite. IMO most companies make decent guitars, it just depends on what you're looking for... except for blue guitars... there's no excuse for blue guitars
Regarding Gibson - I think the quality of their builds for the last 50 years has been overrated. Great guitars. Not elite. PRS on the other hand - haters just gonna hate bc the build quality is great tone is great, they make elite guitars in each category. Just is what it is, market has spoken until someone can prove otherwise. Anyone who doubts PRS as high quality instruments, relatively speaking, is just a hater.
PRS are good for studio recording and thats about it. The reason why Strats, Teles, and Les Pauls are so popular is because their sound is recognizable because so many guitarists have used them over the years. PRS doesn't have a very distinct tone because none of the guitarists I listen to use PRS, it's hard for me to tell the difference between a PRS, an ESP, and a Schecter, but I could easily tell what a Les Paul, Strat, or Tele sound like. Also I'm just not a fan of the body shape or the coil split. The PRS shape is a weird double cut les paul shape, but I find that the strat body shape is more comfortable for me so I would prefer a Superstrat like a Charvel DK, or a Jackson Dinky, or an Ibanez RG. PRS only makes sense as a beginner or first guitar. You only have one guitar, you don't know what kind of sound you wanna be, you don't know if your band's other guitarist is gonna be a Strat guy or a Les Paul guy, so the PRS is a safe choice. But once you are able to own 2 or more guitars, there is almost no reason to buy a PRS other than the fact it is a pretty clean sounding guitar for studio recording.
@@manofthepeople2165 you’re telling me you honestly can listen to Santana and not hear an indistinguishable PRS tone? For his catalog recorded post-transition to PRS. You really don’t think that’s distinct?
Personally, Gibson and PRS are not my vibe; neither their playability or sound inspires me. I do not hate them, I simply play what does feel good to me, that inspires me. Gibson and PRS are not those guitar brands for me. Play what inspires you, and respect those who find inspiration with different brands. We'll make better music together, not divided...
I never felt the urge to buy a PRS, but I've bought 4 Gibson over the years. The only time I hated Gibson was when they were putting robot tuners on guitars for a few years. Since the bankruptcy (lol) we've gotten along fine. LP special, SG special, LP Studio, SG '61
I also have a couple of blue guitars...including PRS Custom 24 08. The headstock on mine is also blue (not sure they made many) but blue guitars sound the best in my opinion. Blue, who knew.
I also enjoy blue guitars. I have a transparent sapphire blue squire strat-o-sonic. I just can’t find any color other than blue that looks good on guitar.
I own both the Les Paul and the CE24 plus a couple other PRS models. That being said the CE24 is the shining star when it comes to playability and being a working mans guitar. It's such a solid instrument and after I made the setup the way I wanted it stays in tune awesome and is so dependable! If I had to buy one it would be the CE24.
It's value. I grew up idolizing Gibsons, especially Les Pauls. Then I got my hands on some, as well as guitars from competitors. I hate the idea of paying $3,300 for what I get from other companies for $1,200... except for branding. Gibson's chief product these days is nostalgia. Doesn't mean their guitars are bad, but you're paying a huge premium for the brand.
Just buy epiphone then, thats why the import lines exist. It's a different headstock shape and different logo but the sound and feel is as close as you can get to a Gibson. PRS charges just as much, if not more for their SE line if not more than Epiphone.
@@manofthepeople2165 I was addressing Gibsons and already stated that my solution was to buy other brands that provide much greater value. Epiphone is one of the many brands that provide much greater value than Gibson. What does your post add that I didn't already cover? You replied just to suggest that I... do what I already said I was doing?
I play Les Pauls cause they feel comfortable and I like the sound. I guess the hate comes from their high prices. Maybe its Gibson’s fault. They don’t promote their Tributes and Studio as much as they should and those guitars punch well above their weight…
I had one of each of these brands of guitars and I couldn't connect with either one of them. I got lucky and got most of my money back from selling them. Sounds and play they were not satisfying.
I did get it right. The LP tone was noticeable to me. Just pulled the trigger on a CE custom 24 08 quilt in the Lake Blue-847.00 on sale. Found one new in the box and can't wait to get it. Meanwhile I will play my new swamp ash special and Mccarty 594. Love guitars of all brands. One's (brand) too many and a thousand is not enough. Thanks for the great shootout.
I don't hate Gibson or PRS, I don't like all the law suit issues Gibson is doing to our beloved budget guitar markets, they are bullies, and are responsible for picking on stolen designs, and in turn our budget guitars, which are trying to please the fans, can't do what we wanted, like open book headstocks, zebra pickups, and more, they wrecked theirself, even the occasional buyers of Gibsons, are now turning to chibsons, which are coming in with better QC and set up,PRS is in a class of it's own,a lot of people just don't like the shape of their guitars, other wise they get kudos for sound and innovation.
I guessed correctly, but it really was just a guess. I think most of the haters of these brands are just bandwagon jumpers. My biggest gripe about Gibson is some of their outlandish pricing. PRS has expensive guitars too, but they also have SE models that are considered incredible bargains (bang for the buck). You will never hear “bargain” and “Gibson” in the same sentence… except for this sentence. Never say never. Damn it, I did it again.
It's not Gibson guitars, it's their management and corporate attitude, and the contrast against the legends who made them famous PRS it's defo the guitars They're just asking for it
I guessed correctly. I love them both but, like the sound of the Gibson just slightly better although I really like the look of the PRS. Very hard to choose between the two 🎸🤘🏻
I'm not a fan of either brand, but I wouldn't call it hate. They're both typically priced beyond what I can *responsibly* afford, with lower specs or features than a lot of cheaper guitars. I find the aesthetics for PRS especially to be incredibly off-putting. Gibson's reputation as a company is terrible, and their QC for a top-dollar brand is crap.
I think Gibson makes a decent guitar, i mean their worst guitar these days is at least decent. They also make some great guitars, and they average out as being pretty good overall. I hate the company because of their bad behavior, however, not their product. Nothing bad to say about PRS, however. PRS should be studied by industrial management schools for what they pull off.

@@Prajnana yeah, I was homeless at the time and paid for it donating blood plasma. You have no idea who you’re talking to. Have a good one 😉
Love my CE. I sold my les Paul due to the weight
price?
watch video?
I play guitars I like. I have several epiphone LP’s, a few Gibson LP’s, a few USA fender strats, fender USA tele and a Squier tele. I love all of them. I had a prs se Zach Myers, awesome guitar, but I sold it because I didn’t play it much. Guitars are just…awesome.
Landon, all your really comparing are the pickups! If you would switch the LP pickups and put them in the PRS, would they not sound the same?
Nope
@@yargnad Yes.
Got me a CE -24 in fire red semi hollow I love it and the got a 24.08 SE in Ezira Verdea the a McCarty 594 SE I am digging a lot about PRS
Which Stratocasters do you have still with a maple neck? Or is it mostly telecasters with maple necks
I dont' have any Strats with maple neck now.
@@landonbailey but you do have telecasters with maple necks
And you still have the Breedlove
If you could get that in for a review that would be great!
this is the closest I've come to that: ua-cam.com/video/y50vdK0L9AU/v-deo.html
How do you find the scale length when switching between the PRS/Gibson and Teles? Find much of a difference? Have a preference?
All of them feel good. On the prs it's easy to do big stretches in my opinion
Is there a few Stratocasters you have still with a maple neck
Or is it mostly the telecasters
The tv yellow les Paul is my favorite Gibson guitar
S2 are great!
i never have played these quality guitars but LP sounded better to me. both looks beautiful
Did you sell your cherry burst les Paul to get the blue one?
After 50+ years of playing I've gotten over big name branding when looking for a guitar. There's so many choices, and good ones, for affordable prices. So, I guess I was never a guitar collector just an avid guitar abuser...if that makes sense? I play hard. Have a PRS CE24 that now hangs on the wall when I go out to gig. Meh. My current #1 is an Ibanez GIO, and my backup a Yamaha Pacifica. Neither are top of the line but both serve by purpose very well. 🤘😉
Imagine thinking Ibanez and Yamaha are not "big name brands".
PRS 4 Models, Gibson LP & SG Custom 3 & Maestro Vibrola, , Epiphone Prophesy & Genesis & ES339, Schecter CR6 & Elite 6 FR & C1 Sustaniac , Peavey T-60's with Carvin CTS Necks, Fender Tele & Tele '72 Thineline Tele's, Strats Humbuckers & Single Coils & Both, Yamaha & Ovation or Taylor Acoustics with Concert Bodies & Cutaways !!! I Love Stainless Steel and Nickel Silver Gescar Frets. I have 37 Guitars and a Frankie Modded Out Carvin Double Cut with PRails Pups !!! I'm always Experimenting with tone so that's a Yes for Amps & Effects & Chords to Batteries & Power Supplies. I Love both guitars presented in this video but the LP is heavier !!! No. I can really only play Fender. I love the others, but I just can't figure out what to do with it.
I hate that they dont come with the retro but still amazing flipstix tremolo bar
I have a PRS Tremonti but it’s an SE so I don’t think it counts on hate meter since a big PRS complaint is high price for low resale value
I have a Gibson SG and even some Gibson lovers hate SGs
I love both guitars the SG I love more, the tone the feel and I don’t have crippling neck dive issues like some complain about
I have 3 SE's & enjoy playing them very much (594 Double Cut, Silver Sky Rosewood, Custom 24 Quilted). PRS's are well made and sound great.
Gibson LP's are too expensive. I can't justify the cost, when I can get almost as nice a guitar in the Epi 59 Inspired by Gibson Limited Edition Standard LP which I have.
PRS has a soul it speaks to me all the time.
5:15 I’ll say x is Gibson and y is PRS. I’m probably wrong but still
Nothing against PRS, never felt in love with it, but the ones I played were nice guitars.
I purchased a LP 60s standard and wasn't a fan. I got The CE24 and I enjoy it much more.
Habit?
I think PRS is great if you got back problems like me.
People say, PRS has no soul…what guitar does??…really, I wanna know…people say, ooh that guitar sounds “vintage”…what does that even mean…I have a lotta questions 🫤
I like your style.
Guitar X a little more sparkly, cleaner with less texture.
Guitar Y warmer tone, more grit, texture and body.
Still have that prs right?
I just made this video!
I’ve always thought I wasn’t good enough for a PRS..I finally found a great SE custom..& a few Gibson P90 guitars)…I’m a fender/ Epi guy…
Love Gibsons, dude... independently of what these trendy boneheads say...this Gibson bashing thing has just got too old and stupid.
If you are a substandard it might make a difference ? If you can play ,you can make anything happen .
Gibson/Epiphone and PRS is just about all I play anymore. I don't care about the hater's opinions personally.
Why would anyone care?
Both excellent I'm sure but I only gas for Gibson.
I think I forgot to mention the CE 24 is more comfortable to play compared to the Les Paul.
thanks for sharing!
PRS is the clear winner. 🏆 🇺🇸
I don't care what other people think about my guitars and I feel strongly about this.
Excellent video
Cheers!
Blue guitars sound the best.
Yeah. I said it.
I had one of each of these brands of guitars and I couldn't connect with either one of them. I got lucky and got most of my money back from selling them. Sounds and play they were not satisfying.
Price, brand, birds.. 😎
God damn, there’s just something about a les Paul in blue 🤤🤤
I love Gibson but can only afford Epiphone. I enjoy your videos keep it up. I have a Epiphone 59 I’m happy with it
I don't hate Gibson or PRS, I don't like all the law suit issues Gibson is doing to our beloved budget guitar markets, they are bullies, and are responsible for picking on stolen designs, and in turn our budget guitars, which are trying to please the fans, can't do what we wanted, like open book headstocks, zebra pickups, and more, they
wrecked theirself, even the occasional buyers of Gibsons, are now turning to chibsons, which are coming in with better QC and set up,PRS is in a class of it's own,a lot of people just don't like the shape of their guitars, other wise they get kudos for sound and innovation.
X sounds and looks better. Awesome video
Get a epiphone and mod it.
General Hand Grenade! Who’s Canadian?
PRS - 10 inch neck radius!
I don't discriminate, I play. You know what they say about opinions. I did guess correctly BTW.
It's not Gibson guitars, it's their management and corporate attitude, and the contrast against the legends who made them famous
PRS it's defo the guitars
They're just asking for it
Funny so far love it!
I guessed correctly. I love them both but, like the sound of the Gibson just slightly better although I really like the look of the PRS. Very hard to choose between the two 🎸🤘🏻
Wow - that surprised me - i
thought i would prefer PRS preferred les paul - ha!
"My mouth just turned stupid." Yeah, been there.
I was wrong : (
Because people love to hate, or vise versa. I can only afford Squires, so I dislike them strongly.
Because people feel bitter because they can’t afford them. They are the best in the world. Fact.
It's simple, because fender is the best thing in the world!
I like X more and I think it's PRS (haven't seen the reveal yet)
I think Gibson makes a decent guitar, i mean their worst guitar these days is at least decent. They also make some great guitars, and they average out as being pretty good overall. I hate the company because of their bad behavior, however, not their product. Nothing bad to say about PRS, however. PRS should be studied by industrial management schools for what they pull off.
Gibson is too expensive. Haven’t found a PRS that has a neck carve that I like. I do have an Epiphone that I like.
that 2 seconds of getting serious was the longest 2 seconds of my life. never again.
