My CE24 is, hands-down, my favorite guitar I've ever played. Had it for 2 years now. When I first got it, I thought it was OK but not "special." Now I play it all of the time and I sound the most like me while playing it. Great sounds from you, as always, Robert!

I have the Core version and love the 85/15 Pups (that's what yours has too) - lots of clarity. The Trem is amazing and the maple bolt on neck of the CE's does had a bit more snap and overall they are incredibly stable instruments.
The 594 is a fantastic instrument too - a lot like a Vintage Les Paul in vibe but with a bit more clarity and build quality. I love mine too - really great playability too. I highly recommend checking one out if you get the chance...

Out of all their pups I love the 85/15. Like you said the clear sound they have is awesome. Always wanted to own a Custom 24 but not going to buy one til I have enough money to buy 10 of them if I wanted to and still be fine financially.

Beyond acknowledging how consistently high quality PRS QC is and how ergonomically well designed they are I’ve never bonded or been inspired by any of them... it’s almost like they’re TOO perfect. However, I do have a CE24, and for me it’s pretty different. To me that bolt on neck design and (maybe) that slightly less over-engineered import bridge/trem it has pushes it more into Fender territory than Gibson, and to me at least that “works” better.
My only wish is that it had 58/15 pickups not the 85/15 because for my purposes the pickups are just too hot in full humbucking mode. The coil split tone is the nicest coil split I’ve ever heard from a humbucker though.

    • @JRFarmercom

I just bought an S2 Standard 22 with the 85/15 "S" pickups this year. I think they're the same design, just made by 3rd party and imported. I wasn't a fan of them. They definitely have 'clarity', but that's what I didn't like about them. They sounded too scooped to me, and didn't have the mid-emphasis and growl I was looking for.
I replaced them with SD Pearly Gates. I keep this guitar tuned to Drop D. It's a riff machine, and now it's got that growl I was looking for.

I got my ce24(my first PRS) shortly after you, somewhat in part because of your videos, and feel spot on with your thoughts. For as much as I love the bridge Humbucker, I’ve found myself more in love with the neck, both single and hum. Best coil split I’ve ever heard or played! Thanks for all the ce24 vids as I looked forward to them all.

I have had 3 Custom 24s, and an Artist II 24. I just got back from GC checking out a CE24 they had on the wall and I freaking LOVED it! The neck was absolutely perfect for my hand and within 5 minutes I was playing the hardest solos I know like I've been playing it for years. I was wondering if it was a worthwhile purchase compared to the Custom 24, but it might be better for me. I like the light lacquer on the neck as well making it feel unfinished (as someone who sometimes suffers from sweaty fingers on stage). I got a great tone out of the Blackstar I was plugged into (and I'm not usually a fan of those) and the harmonics were amazing! I think I'm now officially sold.

I'm a 61 year old beginner/intermediate player and have 2 PRS guitars now plus a couple of cheaper guitars. The PRS CE 24 semi-hollow and PRS SE Mark Holcomb are 2 guitars that I constantly reach for. I play every day now because these guitars just beg to be taken down off the wall and played. I definitely wouldn't practice as much if I didn't have these amazing guitars to inspire me every day. PRS also have amazing customer service. The Mark Holcomb I bought used, and the bridge had corrosion on it because of the humidity here. I asked PRS support where I could buy a replacement. They said they don't sell the bridge for that guitar, but they sent me a replacement free of charge. What an amazing company :)

Robert, yesterday (Oct. 7, 2020) I watched your original video on the PRS CE 24, among other videos. Long story short, by dinner time I had ordered one in Mint condition (the dark cherry sunburst) from a seller I connected with on Reverb.com. Your playing on that video, BTW, was stellar (as always). The tone on these guitars is phenomenal. I was blown away at the tone Phillip McKnight was getting on his video playing a CE 24 through a humble Fender Super Champ X2 (which I happen to own, and is a fantastic amp for the money). Now, here I am today, watching your one-year later video, and bursting at the seams with excitement and anticipation at receiving my new (and first) PRS. Rock on!

You would love 594. You love LP and you love playability and stability of a PRS. Well 594 is no brainer. It captures vintage 59 sounds and still plays modern stuff as any PRS should. When I say vintage 59 sounds I mean sound of non potted PAF humbuckersstat sound like big single coils. Plus you get coil tap/split. Still on mine I mostly stay on the humbucker setting. So it is not sounding like 80/90-ies LP big dark and power rock sound only. It can do it to but it can do so much more. When I have seen mine that was it. Wood library 10 top quilted maple top Maccarty Sunburst. Mahogany neck with figuring. Well if you like it there are maple necks with rosewood to. Also rosewood neck models to. 58/15 LT are special. They split/tap great. Mine is with hybrid Phase III tuners and those are unbelievable. Magic. Easiest tuners to smoothly go into the tuning and combined with the rest of the guitar they hold tuning for ages despite the torture of bending and aggressive playing. Provided strings are good. I have went to a local high end guitar shop and tried it vs many high wnd guitars and it stood out. Tried it vs anniversary 59 and first 80-ies reissue that second hand costed twice more then my 594 and for me mine sounded best. Every time I open the case it feels like that moment in the Pulp Fiction movie when they got the case and open it. It is like it shines. My birds are abalone in the middle with pearl outline. Perversion. Looks and sound awesome. Neck is a perfect fit.mine is patern vintage. Looking at it you would say it is a chunkers but it disappears in your hand and it never ever gets in the way. It both fits a hand perfectly providing great bending platforms and allows shredding speeds. Sustains for days. If your amp is at working level and you let it ring out you think it stopped and you mute the strings you understand it was still going. It resonates with higher pitch then any other guitarthat I have ever seen. Most guitars keep on going with thicker strings but this one keeps on going with all of them. Well guitar has it or it doesn't have it. This one has the X factor. Most of the 594 I have heard habevot in spades. So go for it you will be surprised 594 Maccarty is class above CE despite CE being way better than what people who never played it think about.

I purchased one yesterday and it more than exceeded my expectations. I think this is the easiest guitar to play from my experience. It practically sold itself. I have been looking at PRS's for awhile now and have played a lot of them, but somehow I never played a CE24. This guitar is worth the money. The build quality and set up is excellent. I think that this guitar will be my number one from now on. These people build good guitars.

I'm a life long Fender player. I'm not a big Gibson fan but if I found a Les Paul that I liked it would certainly be out of my price range. About 6 months ago I bought a PRS SE standard 24 to fill that long vacant humbuckers slot on the rack and boy did I get more than I bargained for. £100 cheaper than the player series strat and higher build quality. It came perfectly setup out the box and I immediately fell in love with it. It plays like butter and matches well with both my Vox AC15 and my Boss Katana 100. The only thing that would make me get rid of it would be to get a higher end PRS. I still love my Tele and Strat but the PRS SE punches well above its price point and is a keeper. Would I spend 3k plus on a Custom Shop Fender - noway but if I had 3k to burn I would spend it on a PRS core model in a heartbeat.

I was going to put a brass block on the tremolo but broke the plastic insert so I ordered the upgrade kit which I received but I looked on line and found an all brass version of the trem for $55 in china. It looks Identical to the American all brass for $400. It actually got louder and sustain is better and tones are more defined.

Hey Rob. First, I love your show.. And your vibe in general. Second, I own a 91 & 94 CE 24. Alder/maple body, amazing neck, HFS/VB PUPS, 5 way rotary pup selector, the 91 has the original 1 piece trem... If it has a weak point...well more of a preference thing, the old wing tuners, I switched out to some M6 minis.
I own some 90's 10 top Custom 24's, and they are amazing, but my preference is the old CE models. That old neck heel is almost non existent. I really wish they'd reissue those original CE's. They are around $1k used...usually in amazing condition. I've owned mine a long time, but I'm always in the market for pre 95 CE's. Ive played alot, and they're all amazing. My opinion...its my favorite PRS model ever. I love PRS, but I love Reverend, Nova, Friedman, Gibson, Fender, G&L....as well. I recently bought a PRS SE Mira which is a brand new model, and it has blown me away. Its the easiest playing guitar I own now. The sounds are new and amazing...the new satin Vela S2 I just bought is a whole new category and just ridiculous for the price. You might wanna test drive those if you have the opportunity. While I'm kinda bitter about the overpriced Chinese hollowbody SE guitars they released recently, the first 15 years of the World Musical instruments SE's from S Korea are pretty much PRS quality control and I do regret the soapbar SE models Ive sold. The P90's were amazing, and the guitar was as close to perfect as I could argue one to be. Glad you like your CE. My current favorite's are a Breedlove Organic Companion, and my original 91 CE 24 (PRS SE Mira a close second!)

Nice to see you come back to this guitar with a long-tern use perspective.... While I love the 'bling' of some of the more expensive PRS guitars, I'm kind of scared to play them. The CE therefore feels like a great spot in the line up to me and I therefore bought a CE24 back in 2016 (my first PRS). It is, hands down, the best guitar I've ever played and I've bonded with it completely....it is a complete workhorse guitar and, while it looks great, I don't feel quite so precious about it that the few dings it has collected have made me feel too bad.... I've just bought a Silver Sky and, while it is a very different vibe, it is a phenomenal take of the SSS Strat platform. I'm lucky enough to own a bunch of other good guitars collected over the years but these are the two I'd pick pretty much every time. When the house burns down, I'll have one in each hand as I run out.... :-)

    killer. Love it!!!

This guitar wasn’t on the list. After playing the ones that were, I picked up a PRS CE24. Played it unplugged for awhile. Then plugged it in. And bought it. It was so close to what I wanted. Exchanged it for a PRS CE24 Semi-Hollow. THATS IT! For me. Not my first PRS. I think it’s number 5. I believe I’ll have it in a year! Good to see someone else excited about this guitar!

Hey Robert maybe try one of the new “Studio” guitars. PRS haven’t really got around to shipping this new model much but it’s a bit different with 2 narrow bucker/P90 style pickups and the 58/15LT in the bridge. The PuP selector is Strat like but you also get the ability to split the bridge Humbucker. I think this one is a dark horse and while I like the “Special” I reckon the “Studio” will give off a more lively/textured tone. I look forward to trying a specimen one day when they’re readily available. Cheers 🍻

Check out the PRS S2 Vela, the SE dual Soapbar, and SE Custom 22. Note that the 22 fret models will be more LP while 24 are more SG due to pickup placement from the frets. The Vela is like a Tele and Gretch mashup.

I also have a P R S , C E from 2008 , but with the 5 position Robert switch ! It is one of my favorite guitars ! There is something special about a P R S , that you have to play one to get ! I have a couple of them , and they are special among my collection ! I think they made a very nice product ! They hold their value very well also !

I absolutely love my Custom 24. I'm sometimes sad I traded my CE24 to get it, because that CE had its own cool vibe, as you mentioned. But the core Custom is a phenomenal guitar, with the same 85/15 pickups. Another great video!

I just sold my core 24 to free up some cash but still have my CE. But are amazing. I thought they would sound the same but they both have completely different voice. I'll probably but another core, or 513, or 22 semi hollow end of year... but I don't think I'll ever sell my CE. I just can't go without it for some reason I gravitate to it's sound for my style of music...clear, bright, snappy attack...epic 85/15 pickups are the best...

I had a swamp ash special that i had to sell for legal fees. It was an awesome guitar. That being said i have now an Import Jackson soloist, and it plays and feels as good as any guitar i have played. The quilt top (more than likely a veneer but who cares) is beautiful. Its the Ocean fade color. I call it "The Buttery Slickness" I'm a Strat guy but i love that Jackson so much, overly hot pickups and all.

I sold my ‘16 CE-24 and bought a core CU-24 25th anniversary model with the 08 pick ups. Those pick ups just worked better for my rig but I loved how the CE played. But man, sounds great in your hands!!

I have watched this video a few times now. Because I own one. I’m on my 3rd year with mine. And I can’t get enough of this guitar. I’m a huge les Paul worshiper. But this instrument is completely different and awesome. I would someday like to check out a DGT or anyone of the PRS set neck models. Just to see and feel the differences. But I’m really not in any hurry. I’m completely enjoying this guitar.✌️

Love them both, but I also love my Les Paul and my Fender Mod Shop Strat and Telecaster Rarity). First world problems! Haha. Now if I could learn to play them like Robert I would be in business.

I have a les paul custom and this guitar. The LP does still have more bite but the clarity is 100% on this guitar when hitting a distorted chord for example. The prs has bite no doubt but nothing is going to match an LPs growl. It's why you try to aquire an LP. Playability is amazing and lightweight too.

Robert, when I first subbed to your channel I thought you were basically just another shredder guy. I was surprised to see you play a Tele, but then I saw you with the KM, I could swear I saw you use it for the first time here, but I don't think I was subbed to you then. But then you got the gold top, then the 335 and I thought to myself, "Ok this guy is maturing as a player, he is now wanting those different feels and tones and overall attitudes. So I don't think of you as a LP guy or a Strat guy, you are a guitar player and one who likes different feels.

@@RobertBakerGuitar You sir are very welcome and you should count yourself lucky today!! My doctor has me trying some stuff to help lose weight, Adipex I think is what it's called, and wow! I took it for the first time this morning at about 7 am and even now at 11:40 PM I can still feel the effects of it and one of the effects, the main one that I still feel? TO TALK!! Lol, Dude I could have written you a 16 paragraph dissertation about you, your channel and your guitar playing and then followed that up with a 10 paragraph comment, one for EACH of your guitars!! Holy cow do these things make your mind go into over drive! OK, but quickly, I promise lol, As an older guy who raised 4 kids and has 11 grandkids and is the guy most people go to to ask for advice or just to talk to about a problem, I like to think I can tell a lot about a person and sort of sum them up pretty good. This is NO BS dude, NONE, you are truly my FAVORITE UA-cam guitarist, bar none. I am subscribed to all kinds of channels and a lot of them are really really great players, Tim Pierce being one, Darrell Braun, Max lol can't remember his last name or channel name, oh guitar Max duhhh Ron lol. Lucas Fowler and probably another 20 or so, Jared Dines, StevieT, But with you I just REALLY enjoy your playing, your intros have just been KILLER this year especially, what they been putting in your water lol. You have this hard rock edge to you and you toss in a splash of shred, which is how i prefer Shredding, "some" or "a little", not dominate the whole song!! Like that DragonForce song, their first big hit, through the fire and flame I think? Practically everyone I know tells me to check it out and I will love it! Meh, It's OK lol. But with the hard rock and shred you always have this bluesy type of way of playing that just really makes me wanna play my guitar!! I actually have recorded a couple of your intro's and then I work on playing along with you or improvising a solo over your solo lol. Anyway man, Keep up the great work, the channel is growing and so is your talent!!

People sometimes complain the Custom 24 doesnt work well on recordings because they get lost in the mix, try a C24, new ones are amazing, if you can get older ones pre 2003, those are the ones. Those are the PRS guitar you will find yourself playing all the time. The customs are amazing too bit I do see how it can be easy to switch guitars more often than if you were using a CE model.

Yes the PRS is still great after a year sounds awesome and even though you don't have Eric Johnson chops the chops you do have are tasteful and creative on the PRS and all of your guitars btw during your last livestream you said the acacia was the only 24 fret guitar you owned you had forgotten that the PRS also has 24 frets and is now the only guitar you own with 24 frets

I've always maintained that PRS hit on something special with the CE, there's just something about that maple bolt on neck that works so well with the mahogany/maple body. I have a (now very gigged and battered!) '97 CE-24 and I'd not part with it for anything. I've had a few set neck PRS guitars over the years and as nice as they were, I never liked them anywhere near as much as the CE.

WOW! Totally loved your assessment and review, Robert. I caught a killer deal on a used 594 (2016 core) earlier this year and INSTANTLY fell in love with it. The PRS guitar is the perfect "go-between" of the Fender Strat and the Gibson LP without outright competing against them. Enjoyed the review of the PRS CE and the tremolo it has which was NOT a feature on my 594. I do enjoy the 3 position switch location on the 594 which matches my LP...but seeing the CE's tremolo sound enhancement, I may need to find a place for one in my collection. I errantly "thought" I was DONE buying guitars until YOU spotlighted this little gem. (Your NOT being much of a help to me, Robert! THANKS A LOT!!) LOL!
Anyone need a three place guitar holder?
