- It's been so cold this winter we are almost out of firewood. We decided to split up some dead blowdown in hopes that it will last us through the winter. We also had to clean our chimney and pull the boat out of the water before the next big storm hit the Alaska Homestead. No one said living off grid would be easy but this year has been extra difficult. We also wanted to pay tribute to our beloved friend Gunner. Dogs love unconditionally and that's why it so hard to let them go. #Kioti #Splitfire

I lost my canine companion of 16 years last summer and I can honestly say I grieved more for his passing than many humans I have known. My hound Buck never met a child he didn’t love, a cat he wouldn’t chase or a snack he wouldn’t eat. Dogs are better companions than many humans!
Brian I am the same way. Seems like Buck and Gunner had a lot in common.

Gunner was a good and a faithful companion, loosing family is something we never forget and something that we as people don’t get over, we simply remember and try our best to get past that loving void they left behind, but, in not forgetting, remember the good times ALWAYS and know that he loved you with everything he had to love you with.

You could see the trust in his eyes in the clip. The hardest part of saying goodbye is knowing when to say good bye. You can't have a greater love as a pet parent then to respect the signals they give. Its better to be one day early than one day late. I could hear it in her voice, "I'll get his blanket," the love and grief is palatable. Hugs and God bless.

I remember when Gunner saved the neighbor from a bear. He didn't care for guns, even though he was named Gunner..lol. What a wonderful faithful companion. It's been a pleasure to watch him and your two's adventures. My heart breaks for you, as I know how much dogs can be family. Stay warm you two.
Ha he did live a great life. I’d get a call sometimes from Steve who’s cabins a mile away saying Gunner came over to say hi and we didn’t want you to worry. He was also a great fishing buddy to me.

Y’all are in my prayers. I get it about Gunner. I lost my Bruno (a giant schnauzer) 15 months ago and there are times when I see reminders of him that still cause me to cry. These beautiful creatures God allows into our lives for a brief period so become a part of you heart. It is tough, but hang in there. I know there are many Christians that will say otherwise, but I truly believe we will see our 4-legged canines in Heaven. Any creature that dreams and loves so unconditionally as a dog will surely be there to great us.

We will always remember Gunner. He was family to all of you so you need the time. They say time heals all well maybe. Today was a difficult and emotional day for many of us that have been a part of your UA-cam journey for several years. Although you prepared us that this day was coming, our nature is to never give up hope.
One thing we know; Gunner was loved by many. Although he is no longer sick and free from any pain, Gunner will never be forgotten and will always stand guard over your beach.

losing a dog is hard, particularly one who has been part of your life for a long time. We lost our newfoundland collie cross 4 years ago after 18 years, i still miss her

Having your stove pipe outside your house rapidly creates a quick buildup of creosote, requiring cleaning more often, but you also lose all the valuable heat which passes through it. I love your videos. I am sorry you lost your beautiful dog. God bless wilderness people.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Gunner was LOVED and he knew it. You are Great “parents” to all of your animals. We lost our companion of 12 years July 20th. It will never be the same and it still isn’t but we have more fur babies to still take care of and so do you. Take care! Can’t wait to see your garden this year!

I think it’s harder to lose a dog, then it is some humans. Because they are so loyal and happy to see you all the time. Just lost our boxer after 11yrs4months, had a big back yard that was all his. Found him in his usual place where he watched people walk by.

So sorry for your loss. I've had to say goodbye to several good furry friends and it's one of the hard bumps in life. A very good pastor friend of mine told me this about 43 years ago: "The longer you deal with people, the better you'll like your dog." Nobody loves you like your dog and it's a big chunk of your heart that goes with them.

Had to turn the volume up this morning in order to hear the video due to how much it's raining. That storm you mentioned dumped almost a foot of snow on us yesterday before turning to rain late last night/early this morning. Temperatures went from 15 to 45 in less than 24hrs.
Hope you put a few days of that new wood pile where you can get at it easy as it looks like you may be spending a couple days indoors!
Yeah it dumped a foot last night and still going strong. It’s supposed to turn to rain tomorrow. Please warm up and melt this white stuff away😂 I’m about over winter and it really just started. Lol
@@AnAlaskaHomestead just got back from checking boats and charging batteries. Warmish, but miserable out there. Rain has melted the foot of fresh stuff, only two more feet to go.
I'm about done with my desire for winter as well. Next ten days supposed to be warm, but also rain pretty much every day.

Gunner lived the most amazing life. All my dogs are jealous of the Gun Master Flash. All the otter fights, and bear scuffles made my dogs feel like anything was possible. I loved that guy. I missed you guys last month and was afraid something had happened to Gunner or yourselves.
Here on the Kenai we too have gone through an extra amount of wood this winter due to the earlier deep freeze. In fact I'll be going out soon to cut and split some more. I still use a splitter I built back in the 90s. Boy that thing has been a savior.

@@AnAlaskaHomestead Yes we do have lots of wood on hand. Every Saturday throughout the spring and summer I and the wife cut down beetle kill from a siteabout 30 milesfromthehouse. I just cut to 7' lengths and kept stacking it in the yard. I'd keep cutting until either the truck was full or I was tired. Some days it was very hot and sunny so the tired part came first. 😀
