Great video. I loved Coria Farms setup and all the different equipment he uses. He also had a great story to tell. I am interested in how you started. Tell us your story please.
I got into a funk last couple years (job related, that has changed now). I lost interest in my bees. I I went from 25 hives to 4 very strong hives. Hopefully my 4 overwinter, because next spring it will be full speed ahead! I LOVE bees, just lost interest in living life for a bit there! thanks for the videos, and the inspiration to get rolling now. I am quitting that old job of 20 years and starting a whole new chapter!!!
Sorry to hear about your past situation. The bees will help you gain that love and passion back in everything you do. Such a magical little bug that requires our love, care , patience and in return we get life values of what we as beekeepers are. Rare and extraordinary people. We send you positive energy and prayers that your next chapter is what your heart desires. We appreciate you for watching Tracy. - The California Beekeeper Family
Really sad story but thieves are the lowest form of life. There's a special place reserved for them. He's exactly correct that beekeepers are hard working people! Great video!! Thanks!
You got that right, he’s a righteous individual for sure. Building new relationships with other beekeepers is very important to us and I’m happy I met him. Thanks for dropping by Russell 🤙🏼

Absolutely my man! Appreciate the feedback and we hope to getting back on track with so many videos that have been needing to be edited and uploaded to the channel. Thank you for watching brother🤙🏼
Interesting setup he built. That's a Queen rearing machine there. This next year will be my first for Queen Rearing, so appreciate all this info. I agree with his statement, Beekeepers are number 1 taking care of Planet Earth.
You know it brother, glad you found some of this stuff beneficial and as we are getting closer to spring we will be working harder than this year to bring new content in the queen side and with other operations
It is great seeing you back out working with your bees , that was a sad story he had but a powerful story. Hope this winter takes it easy on all bee keepers. Keep your video’s coming when possible. Thanks
Thanks for checking out the video Bruce. Yes he has overcome some adversity and grinding hard. Hear I’ll be joining in on a live and you are also a guest. Looking forward to seeing you on🙌🏼
Great video Jose, I run screen bottoms on 80% of my apiary year round. I’m on the eastern shore of MD and I definitely see a difference on mite loads with screen vs solid.
I've been making my own queens for a few years now, still bringing new queens in for the genetics. The local hobby beekeepers are starting to love me Hahaha.
Don’t do screens anymore, only for moving. In my area, I found queens moved up into supers if I had screens on. (Don’t use excluders). Great video, great great great interview, keepers are hard working, Jose you and your circle of keepers are top notch.
Paul, thanks for sharing your experience with screen bottoms. Was there any benefits that you noticed? I like to surround myself with anyone that is holding the same core values of being a hard working individual on reaching their goals/dreams.
@@TheCaliforniaBeekeeper benefits, no, I didn’t see much, I do like them for moving hives, I move them 480 miles from summer to winter yards. I think it helps, keep them clustered and not overheating. But it’s just my theory, I still lose a couple queens on occasion. I believe they were first used to decrease mite loads by letting mites drop out. But a good schedule of treatment far beats the benefit of a screen. Like I said I had queens wanting to move up. I believe it was due to two things. Screens allow more ambient light in. And the bottom box is then prone to more temperature flux. I did have one hive overwinter with one on. (Lower Michigan) But again in moving bees I like the idea of having them on, especially if the temps are pushing 70-80. Ideally I like moving with temps at 40-50.
Man, this guy's been through the meat grinder! Glad to see he stuck with it and made a success out of it. I purchased 100 nucs after deciding I wanted to go full boar into beekeeping, then the day we were installing them I found out I'm deathly allergic. Hives all over the body, chills, throat swelling shut - ya know, the works. 10 years of prior beekeeping with no bad reactions until the day I go all in lol. I get venom shots now and get stung all the time with no more than a mosquito bite for a reaction, so it all worked out. Set me back a couple years since I had to sell some of those hives off, but now I'm back up to 200 colonies and coming off a 17,000lb honey crop so things are on the up and up 🍯
Man Aaron! Now that’s a story! Bet that scared the wits out of you finding out you were allergic. Happy to hear you going through the desensitization process. We are very familiar of that process as Kelly does it also, been getting the shot for about a year now. That crop sounds better than most guys I know. Good for you and awesome for your bees. Thanks for watching and a little bit about your journey with the bees🙌🏼 Keep growing and pushing harder man
I'm hoping this next year I will be able to focus more on my queen rearing. I've got 7 queens that have made it through two PNW winters. Looking to keep those genetics going strong.
@@TheCaliforniaBeekeeper ones that survive our winters multiple times. Doesn't really matter what the breed is as far as I have come to know. We have alot of parks and just general wetland areas that have been set aside. I've now caught two swarms out of these areas and those queens are really wild. Strong genetics. Gave one to a brother beekeeper and that queen is still going strong. I believe that was a Russian strain. It was very dark. But I've also had some Italians that did so well they swarmed on me during the second year. So you see, think it all just comes down to how they learn how to survive. That's why I'm very eager to get a good solid queen breeding program going. Couldn't do it this year, way too much on my plate.

That's awesome video reminds me of me got bees stuck in anything everything that will hold bees. Bunch of different kinds of mating boxes .. looking for deals fighting for everything only difference we have pollen starts in late March runs thru October. Mine have pollen stored whole frames of it covered in honey to preserve it. One less problem. Main problem we have is mites gotta kill them off in March April or fighting them all season. Get close to town mite problems just spring up. Don't care for screen bottom boards bees need pressure to vent the box like heat ducts in house. Wide open like that hard for them to move air thru the combs imo. Like my bottom entrance wide open . Air goes in one side comes out the other side. When I did run them I'd only open it 2" at most. Not saying I'm right or wrong just the way I see it
That’s awesome man! Thanks for sharing some of your views. Always important to know different ways of doing things so that we all succeed in this already tough journey of keeping bees. Thanks for watching and dropping your comment 🙌🏼

Screen bottoms here in Georgia for ventilation, the summer months get brutal here.
Thanks for dropping a comment. Do you run screen bottoms all year-round?
How is he feeding his newer 4 way mini nucs, the ones with the 2 entrances on front and back and using the Reflectix for inner cover?
3 Framers are my favorite. Maybe you can try it as well with some old boxes, and Styrofoam on top of the roof. No heat will affect them.
I’ll have to try it, if I decide to make a few I’ll make sure to record some content of it.👍🏼
