Great information, easy to understand. I did the same test years ago, rolling the windows down FIRST. My 99 Tacoma, wouldn't lock the door if it Wasn't running but with key in ignition, like the Matrix.
It was totalled when a Tesla t boned it.
My 2007 Infiniti, put the key in the trunk, grabbed two arm fulls of stuff, shut the trunk. Car beeped at me and popped the trunk back open. Good to know how things work.

"you might want to roll down the window first" That's probably the best advice in this whole video. Honestly, there are many people out there that won't even think about doing that they would just toss their key in there and not even consider what might happen. Since I'm old school I used to always keep a spare key in my wallet.
Nowadays, I just have AAA coverage if I have a problem like that where I'm locked out I can call them and they'll come out and unlock my car for me. One time I was out and about with a friend of mine in his car and he locked his keys inside so I called AAA to come out and in fact they used the bladder and a long adjustable rod exactly like you are doing it here.
When you think about it with all the technological advancements they have made in automobiles the absolute worst and weakest link in the chain after all this time is still the battery.

Get a copy of your car key cut at a hardware store. It won’t start the car in modern cars because it won’t have the fob that signals the ignition. But it will work for the door. Put it in a magnetic hide-a-key under the fender.

a little trick I used to do (having a 2011 Mazda CX-7) was to detach the buttons part (remote control) of my key fob and leave it in my pants pocket all the time and forget about it (until I’d need it to open the car in case I’m locked out or something) and always use the metal part for my daily uses.
You’re probably asking why I don’t do the opposite and use the remote control for my daily basis ? Well that’s to prevent thieves from intercepting my key fob signals, copy them and then come later and steal my car !
So to recap : I keep the spare key at home and use the main key as 2 keys : 1 for daily uses, and the 2nd as a spare key that stays attached to my body all the time ; I don’t put it in my phone or purse coz I may forget the phone/purse themselves in my locked car.

last summer i was with a scout troop of about 25 in Alaska. We were in a remote area doing some salmon fishing (yes, that was amazing). One of the dads locked the doors and key inside of one of the cars we were using. We were in a NON cell area that was very remote. I stepped up to the plate and took on the task of getting us in. The 1st thing i did was checked ALL the doors for a open lock. None were found. The drivers window was down about 1/4". I directed scouts to find me the perfect stick, a couple dads pulled on the glass and I very cautiously guided the stick down to the unlock button. Although they were amazed, no one really gave me credit for that magic touch and ingenuity!

That's a great kit to unlock ones car, but where would you store it? In the trunk or inside of the car, where you need the key anyway? Because you're locked out of your car somewhere beside your home.

  • @Jeff_Seely
    @Jeff_Seely 6 місяців тому +2

I purchased a similar kit, but to help others. But the only way anything is going to help you get into your own car is if it is accessible to you. Those tool sitting in your trunk will do no good with getting you back in your own car. I used to lock my keys in my car quite frequently and then I got smart (and disciplined ). I made two 3x5 cards that reminded me to put my key in my pocket before standing up. One for the windshield and one for my driver's side window. To my surprise, it only took a week to train myself and I never locked them inside again. I don't even have to do it anymore with my vehicles but I still do it by habit. Huge problems can be solved with small disciplines.Try it and see. You will shock yourself how well it really works and what little effort.

Even if you have a newer vehicle that needs the remote so that the car will start, you can still have a plain key cut so at least you can open the door to get your keys. Many places will say, oh, you have to have the remote, nope. Plus, a plain keys is easier to put in your wallet, or if you use one of the magnetic key holders, if they find it, they may open the door, but it won't start, (unless you left your keys in the car)

The keys were left in the very back corner of the hatch, which allowed the car to start and lock! The rest don’t and yes, no matter how old or new it is, it WILL still lock you out. I would highly suggest getting a second key because if you own an American, Japanese, German or a Korean car then chances are it could lock you out.

You dont need a "kit", go to menards where they sell doors and they have the exact same bladder bag thing in two sizes. They sell them for leveling doors when you install them yourself. Same exact thing except the menards one is actually made in Denmark for some reason....probably lasts longer than one 从中国. I have two of the smaller ones (same as in the video) they work amazing. For a wire I use a muskrat stretcher that I cut bottom stuff off....probably four times thicker than a coat hanger and works really well too.

Even if a crook found it, they won't be able to start the car. I usually don't keep valuables in the car so there's nothing of worth to steal.

I used one for years without fail, but my last one made its way to my exhaust and melted:) Guess because I went over too many bumps too fast for way too long without checking on it:) Anyways, a few months ago I drilled a small hole through a piece of framing/metal underneath my car, ran a bolt through it followed by my key (drilled a hole in my key too to fit over the bolt) tighten it all up with a wingnut BAM! Fixed the issue I believe:) HA!

When I worked security at a bank's central cash vault, we always had a couple of wire coat hangars on hand, bent in a couple different ways, for unlocking vault employee's car doors. Which we had to do, about every other week... As for motorcycle batteries? My 2018 Harley Freewheeler trike still has it's original battery. Mainly because, if I'm not going to be riding it for a while - like, say, in the Indiana winter? It's hooked up to a Deltran Battery Tender. Which monitors the battery constantly, and always keeps it fully charged. If I'm snowed in, and it's stupid cold - and going to be for several days? I have a compact Battery Tender that can sit under the hood, next to the battery. I love those things...

My car was running, in park, and on a very slight incline. I opened the door to get a turtle out of the road. The door slammed shut and LOCKED me out! It was summer and very hot. I couldn't get in the car and couldn't move my car. I found someone to call AAA as my phone was in my car. Long story short, someone from a car wash had the kit that Scotty showed and opened my door for me. I went straight to the hardware story and had a spare key made that unlocks the door only. I hid it on my car. I won't ever be locked out again but I never thought the door would stay locked after the door was opened.
