Mike, next time you have glue you need to remove, try using a blow dryer to soften it, depending on the material, you can also use a heat gun. I often have to remove items sealed with some version of Loctite - heat helps.

I use a heat gun for this purpose often. However, in this application it is not safe. PVC softens readily with heat and it is imperative the mating surfaces of this valve remain dead flat and not distorted. I gently hit it with the heat gun but to no effect. I was not willing to apply more heat.

I'm struggling with mine. I wanted to replace both the diverter top and the gasket, and found it was just as cheap to order an entire Pentair diverter. Then, after I removed the top part of the new diverter, I saw the gasket was permanently affixed to the lower unit. Glued, heat-bonded, something. I'd already cut and carved out the old gaske from the old lower unit, and then ordered a new gasket. I lubed the heck out of it, seated it as firmly as I could, but no matter how much I take care to push the diverter handle all the way down while rotating it, it will still unseat the gasket and the pool will drain when it's running. Right now I'm basically not able to use the diverter. After talking to a Pentair dealer/repair shop, he told me I really needed to glue it in place wiht BOSS 02505CL10 801 Neutral Cure Silicone Adhesive.

I was afraid it may require glue, but mine is staying in place without it…so far. If it slips I’ll glue it.

I believe I have the same pentair multi port valve. You have the part # to that gasket by any chance?

Can't find it, not sure where I got it. Amazon, Ebay or an online pool supply.

@mguerramd Excellent video! Just finished this same project on a pool system that has 3 of the same multi-port valves! Like you, it took three hours each over two days to remove the old gaskets! What a PIA! Long story short, I replaced the o-rings, springs, flat washers, and nylon washer as well as the spider gasket on each one. I reassembled all, turned the pump back on and let it run overnight. The next morning, the filters were backwashed and rinsed then put back in the filter cycle. Seemed fine, but after a couple hours we noticed the water level was dropping! We checked the waste line and sure enough, discovered it leaking to waste! I then disassembled all three again to make certain everything was as it should be and it was!! I'm at my wits end trying to figure out what went wrong! Any suggestions would be appreciated! TIA! Jim Smith

I have had this happen. Make sure to push the lever all the way down and keep it down as you rotate to a function. Rotate clockwise. When you allow the lever to spring up, be sure it is centered in the detent, you can feel it by wiggling it. If you rotate it to "Filter" and don't drop it perfectly in to the detent it will leak to "Waste"

@@mguerramd No matter how much care I take in making sure I've got the diverter level all the way down when rotating it, the vast majority of time it's still unseating the gasket.

So how did your repair job do?

Working fine. You are apparently supposed to glue these so they don't spin out of position but I did not. I did lube the heck out of both surfaces of the spider gasket and all the mating surfaces in the valve, so when I spin it it moves freely and hopefully won't pull the spider out of position.

I don’t use an external microphone and I don’t edit in post. My videos are just designed to be quick and dirty and informational. They don’t have anything approaching good production values!
