  • Fishing pike from the bank can be extremely fun and rewarding, but it comes with a few limitations and challenges compared to fishing from a boat/float tube or kayak.
    In this video Pontus goes pike (and a little perch) fishing in a big lake in Northern Sweden and shares his best tips for pike fishing from the shore.

    Thanks for all your love, we’ll make more shore fishing videos for sure! 👊🏼 After reading all your comments and suggestions about the dead fish, I think it is a European Bullhead and not a goby (luckily). Also, I’ve seen two good tips in the comments that I’d like to share with you, which are:
    1. Always bring a first aid kit
    2. Make sure to make a few short casts from the shore before entering the water with the waders
    I’ve also gotten many questions about the tackle box with a handle, which is really convenient for shore fishing, and it’s a Vision Aqua ”Big Daddy” box. You can get it here:
    www.kanalgratis.se/en/vision-aqua-fly-box-big-daddy
    Peace!

      Carter Stoltz over here we measure in millimeters and not pounds. So I’m not sure about the line test, but it’s 0,36 mm Strike Wire Extreme.

    Great video! Keep up making shore fishing videos as that is what most anglers around the globe do. I also loved your lure selection. I'd just add one lure, that is awesome when it comes to fishing lily pads or reeds: a spinnerbait. Honorary mention to a humble spoon would also be great.

    Despite owning a couple boats, I still do quite a bit of shore fishing for pike, and IMO the biggest thing is to move around and cover lots of water. I am constantly moving along the shore and generally only throw 3-6 casts in any spot before wading 10-20 yards further... unless I get a bite or catch a fish. For this reason I take very little gear when fishing from shore... one rod, a few proven spoons and spinners, and some hook removal equipment. When fishing from shore I find increased mobility will get you into far more fish than bringing lots of gear.

    I figured pike and perch were only in Canada. Sweet man. I've been pike fishing at this creek for the last week by my house and I've pulled in over 20 there this week. 2 foot long average. At this location I've just been using pike swim baits and jigheads with nightcrawlers. I've taken the 3 pronged barbed hooks off cause they love to swallow them lures lol.

    Good tips there...using waders was the best for me. I do most of my fishing from shore and searching for wegetation is my number one tip especaly waterlillies, if ther is any. Bring light gear so you dont have to carry so much, i like to use a little bit longer rods so you gain a few meters in your casts cowering more water, but that is up to eweryones taste. And make sure you have a fichingpermit if you need one.
    Tight lines anglers

    We were fishing here a few days ago and just used Red Devils and some different shiny spinners. We had em near shore but they were too big and we definitely needed stronger line and a thick leader. (Labrador) they were over two feet long easy and when they bite it’s dead weight

    Hi there! Love the video, love the way you explain everything. I have a couple of questions. First, why do you use baitcaster reels and not spinning reels, so which are youre favorite? I just started to use baitcaster and bought myself a Daiwa Tatula SV103. What line and line size do you use on all of your baitcasters, the one for pikes and also the one for perch?

    • @brettharvey2530
      @brettharvey2530 4 роки тому

      the type of reel really just comes down to personal preference...i use a bait caster because i can drop the lure exactly where i want, and i can just bomb the lure out super far to get past any weeds and little bait theives lurking close to shore.....those spin cast reels to me are more hassle than they are worth.....one thing i noticed with the line while watching guys on youtube fish for bass with bait casters is they tend to use pretty heavy braid for the main line so i tried it with mine, put on 50lb and use a fluorocarbon or mono leader depending on where i am and whats in the water..so if im going somewhere with smaller fish like perch or trout i just clip on a leader with light fluorocarbon or if im going somewhere with bigger fish like pike, walleye, etc i swap out to some heavier mono or even a wire leader.....at first i was getting just stupid backlashes and weird tangles in my reel but after the first day once the braid got broken in a bit it worked way better than the 20lbs my rod and reel is rated for....and if you get caught in weeds with the lure tied on the braid your not going to lose any lures unless you get snagged on a big log or something

    • @kanalgratisdotse
      @kanalgratisdotse  5 років тому +3

      Depends on the lure, fishing speed etc. but I mostly use like 7 gr for fishing in 1,5-2 m, 10 gr for 2-3 m, 15 gr for 2,5-5 meters and 20 gr for even deeper. But sometimes I can use for example 20 gr to be able to fish fast on 2 meters. I can also use 10 gr on 4 meters to be able to fish really slow.

    Are use bait made by store. Look like northern pike or perch or walleye. Normally the 5 to 6 inch Lewers work the best in the late summer early fall. Have caught some monsters on forage though. I’m from northern Manitoba Canada. We have lakes that have nothing but northern pike. My personal best is a 60 inch northern pike.

    I'm a Pike fisherman sens I was a kid. Like 10 yeares ago. So my tips would be to be ready for anything because pike can bite anywere. NO mather what kind of stracture, grass, weeds. No matter how shallow it is. In fact pike loves shallow water more then deep. Also my top bates would be Short lip jerk bait, spinner, spoon and popper for water with little stracture (Like few logs or few lillypads) and frog, weedless minnow from rapala(prowed to be the best of all weedless spoons) and rarely a texas jig on high stracture and grass cowered lakes.

    The dead fish looks more like a goby than a burbot. The round gody has been known to live in fresh water and is invasive, so not a great sign although its more destructive to the saltwater species of the Baltic sea.
    Edit: apparently some sculpin also live in fresh water so let's hope it's one of those :) kinda hard to tell but since the round goby was found in Sweden only 10 years ago a sculpin may be more likely.

      @kanalgratisdotse  5 років тому +1

    Hi mate. I you would ask me about a tip for a day of the shore, I would definitely add a small emergency kit to the bag. Some pain killers (fishing with migraine sucks), allergy pills, desinfection!, sticking plaster, something for insect stings and last but not least an ordinary sunscreen. This adds just a couple grams on top your baggage but man, are they helpful sometimes! Oh yes, and don't forget your sunglasses :) Tight lines, Jan.

      Big thumbs up for this, I have missed all of these on many trips. Now I always carry a setup that allows me to spend the night if necessary or I happen to feel like camping. Under 10kg total with water and fishing gear and it's a nice feeling to have everything you might need.

    That little dead fish is what is called Goby fish, if I am not mistaken...and they are considered invasive in Ontario and its illegal to throw back in the water so you'll see them laying around shores all over

    Would using a bobber scare the pikes? I live near a lake in Upplands Väsby and I fish by the shore. There are a ton of rocks and clams so my hooks get snagged if I don’t use a bobber to keep the line high. Speaking about this do pikes swim in the shallow or deep? Thanx for the amazing content ❤

      It depends on the season and where you live. I don't have much experience bobber fishing for pike but I've seen a lot of people fishing for them like this. It's a standart thing to do. Some people fish with lures some do bobbers with live or dead bait, it definitely won't scare the pike. For pike live bait is much better since pike are predators but I'm pretty sure you could catch one on dead bait too. If you just keep snagging into the rocks I think float fishing for pike is definitely the best way. I think it might even be more efficient than lure fishing so it's a great idea to give it a try. When it's summer and the water is warm the pike usually are in shallow waters and during winter when it's cold you usually see them move a bit further from shore into the deeper waters. So I guess during summer you can cast close to shore and now during winter cast a bit further and you definitely should catch a pike. I think it's worth to try everything, if casting far doesn't work cast closer to shore if that doesn't work switch spots and switch back to casting further, since you never know, just because they tend to be further from shore doesn't have to mean that there can't be a pike near shore. Good luck, I wanna do some bobber fishing next year too :) this year it's already all frozen and I don't have a river nearby so I'll just wait till next year.

    That’s actually a southern pike, a fish once thought to be the same species as the northern pike but recently differentiated in a genetic study. Originally from Italy and southern continental Europe they exhibit 4 color patterns, and never have lateral yellow beans like the northern pike. They also have about 20 less scales on their lateral line 110 vs 130. Yours has vertical bars which is one of the tell tale patterns they exhibit.
