Hey Seth. Could you please not waive your lands while you wait for your turn? Watching your video sped up makes that movement to be rather bothersome. Thanks!
I might riffle some fewthers here but Grixis is really bad. It looses to nexus, it looses to esper and it has no real tools against mono red, weenies or mono blue that esper dosn’t also have access to. I get that bolas is exiting but he is not enough to make up for the mediocre shell you have to play in order to make him playable.
Moment of Craving and Golden Demise are fantastic against mono red and mono blue. I'm not sure what you're talking about. Grixis also has access to Niv-Mizzet or Sweltering Suns. Against Esper it has Niv to break the mirror wide open and you just counter Nexus and take the free win.
PalPlays i play Nexus, We have a really really good grixis matchup. As for moment and demise, they are both black and slot much easier into the better Esper control. The only reason to play Grixis in standard is that you really want to play bolas, but at least be honest with yourself that that is what you are doing.
@@foxokon94 Why do they slot much better into Grixis? They are both black? Honestly? I couldn't care less about Bolas. I agree that he's not all that when it comes to finishers, but that just goes to show how great Grixis's card selection is when it comes to ending the game. What do you get by going Esper? Teferi. You get Teferi, Absorb, Dovin's Veto, Mortify, and Kaya's Wrath. Cool, all of your finishers lose to counters or Vraska's Contempt. You get a better removal suite with Kaya's Wrath and Mortify, along with Absorb to soften aggro without costing a slot. Neat stuff. Let's go over to Grixis. For finishers, you get Nicol Bolas, the Ravager, Dragon God Bolas, and Niv-Mizzet. Sure, most of these die to counters or Contempt, but the sheer volume of finishers that are also control pieces will run the Esper player out of resources quickly. You get Bedevil, a better Vraska's Contempt, and Angrath's Rampage. These are competitively costed removal spells that make your complaint about mono-U and mono-R look a bit unfounded.
@@gao4605 I don't know, I personally enjoy good MTG content, regardless of whatever the appeal is. Sweet (Budget) decks are fine in whatever (especially since there's no reason to apply TIX or $ to Arena, right? It's all about those Wildcards, which means it's not really budget, but closer to "build a deck as close to pauper as possible"), but I find Arena incredibly tough to watch. Especially for new sets which I am not as familiar with. On MTGO I can always pause and read a card. If the opponent casts a card that resolves quickly on Arena, I have to google it to see what it does, which I personally find incredibly bad for content creators. Then there's the visual part, which I just don't like, but that's more a personal preference. And the animations and sounds are also something I've never enjoyed, plus the incredibly bad timer in Arena, compared to MTGO. In general, there's just many things I dislike about Arena videos and which is why I personally don't enjoy them as much as content created on MTGO, but I guess it is the new thing and wizards does want to promote it as much as possible. It's just that I find it a lot less enjoyable, which is kind of sad, especially since I've never minded standard content. But if all of it ends up being on Arena, I guess I'll just skip it rather than not enjoying the videos.
MTGGoldfish Hi Seth. Exactly that's what I don't like about this series: basically you are nerfing decks and that's it. For me a "budget" deck is pretty good on its own without restrictions of any kind by runing all the cards that it needs. You know like monoblue/red/white.
@@melvinfz0301 So you are asking him to make mono colored decks for the rest of time. A budget deck, even mono colored, often needs to make concessions to avoid going over budget.
PalPlays Hell no. What I'm trying to say is cutting cards from a deck to keep it under $100, at least for me it's not a good example of a 'budget' deck, it's just a nerf deck. Ok let's take Sultai Midrange, take out the rare lands, replace old Vivien with new Vivien, replace Carnage Tyrant with Pelakka Wurm, and replace Hydroid Krasis with Divination. Yes, then you will have a 'budget' deck. Other funny thing related to just Arena, it's in Arena is quite difficult to say what is expensive and what is cheap, because the only thing that matters is how many wildcards you have. Hydroid Krasis cost is the same of Timestream Navigator. Ironically, this kind of decks are built for players with large collections (like Seth) because 'budget' players will prefeer to spend their precious wildcards on metage decks. I just think that this particular deck or the one with the new planeswalker that make tokens qualifies more to Much abrew series. Anyway a good example of a budget deck that I have seen in this series is Wizards deck, because it had all the cards that it needs. Again, just my opinion.
@@sargin1 Remember that those MTGO videos are heavily edited down. A lot more work has to go into them to convey that information. Personally, I'm not championing for either platform, but I would like to see the new platform supported. It went from "this is shaping up to be a colossal failure" to "wow, they implemented the improvements that the platform needed to be successful."
Kismana. Yeah, pretty sure that's her name. Called like that because she is born a child kissed by the mana. Reading the card explains the card, or just don't and give them funny names to annoy your viewers. Seriously, I know I am being overly sarcastic and a little know-it-all. It's just sometimes this ruins the videos for me. Please, please, please, try to read every card name out loud three times, before you start recording or whatever helps you learn. As someone who spends so much time playing this wonderful game you might actually consider to take the time to get to know the cards. Take them out for dinner. Be nice to them. Wow. Seth didn't even use any vowels when he said Fblthp.
Vowels are the enemy.
Still waiting your 5c niv
It’s kind of unsettling for considering to buy the deck when Seth says “Is this deck actually good? Can it actually win some?” 😂
Love how Seth can say Fblthp no problem but normal words are a challenge.
nrocp0p moontorment he allways adds an extra ”L” and pronounces it like ”Flblthp” though. Seth will allways be Seth. :p
Just trying to watch a video and thunder is quite rudely interrupting
Game two is why I hate control. Two players just drawing cards and discarding cards for turn after turn after turn....
Bluffing and fighting on the stack, pretty fun if you get good.
It's a concurve bow!
Fblthip the control finisher
I guess it's mostly MTGA content for standard now, huh?
that.. would make sense.
@@xXNoFateXx What a shame.
the appeal of Budget decks in specifically standard is in part to Arena players.
It's mostly MTGA for Standard at this point, but it has been for a while (we just hadn't played much Standard before the release of WAR).

"Well the odds of a passable hand are the same as the odds of a nut draw, so let's give our players 7 land hands from here on out."
Seems great for beating up on control edgelords, I approve.
Crim does not.
*new video: :D
*mtga: D:
love what ya do seth, just not a fan of arena personally. cheers!
Props for being one of the few people who is tactful about disliking Arena.
would appreciate more mtg online than arena.
otherwise nice deck and video
Right now the breakdown is mostly Arena for Standard and MTGO for other formats.
People need to start putting viviens arkbow in tron
To hit what?
You always keep the sketchiest hands man, You get to muligan, its not a downside.
Comment if you don’t like mtga like if you do
Arkbow is like a nonparasitic, fixed Aetherworks Marvel.
Much of these 'budget' decks are cool decks with no dual lands lol
Yeah, lands right now are super expensive, so cutting lands is one of the easier ways to keep the deck under $100.
@@melvinfz0301 So your issue is that the landbase is the only thing that has taken a budget cut?
Is it just arena now?
Arena for Standard videos (in general) and Magic Online for other formats.
It's a good platform.
@@PalPlays I think mtgo is way better at conveying information. It might sound weird, but I find arena really boring to watch unless I'm playing it.
"Simic Longbow"
He keeps adding a "W" when he says Fblthp. Am I the only person hearing this??? He is still saying everything wrong per standard.
Not just use them and call them by someone elses name.
Why not just play harpooner instead of discarding it?
We could find something better than a Harpooner!
@@MTGGoldfish i mean to handsize. You have enough mana to still play frilled or some other counter on their turn if you would need it, even if u play out the harpooner. And it would be another threat on board. Just discarding it seemed like a waste.
Cry of the cranarium
I now hate when new standard sets come out. why you may ask, because I absolutely hate Arena and now it's nothing but fucking standard videos on Arena for the next God knows how long.
early AF
That first grixis list was garbage lol
I love MTG but Arena has shown just how RNG the game really is. The best player in the world could not have won those 2 games against RDW because of mana screw/flood.
That is part of the beauty of MtG. If games went the same way every time, no one would play. There is a reason why this is bigger than Hearthstone.
Grixis is such a bad deck, i have literally never seen it win haha
Match 1: worst grixis control player ever.
23 min in and no arkbow activations...
Oh don't worry, we get there!
Please drop the Magic Arena meme and play Magic Online
Magic Arena is good and is only getting better. If you don't like it then don't watch.
I stopped playing arena due the non random shuffle. Never keep one land. You'll never see another one. Keep three and that's all you'll draw...
