Although you are right about Tim Burton's film with Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci, Sleepy Hollow appeared on the cultural map of the USA earlier. In fact, it is related to a fairly early stage of the development of American literature in the USA, and specifically to the genre of gothic stories/gothic horror typical of the Romantic period. The reason is that Washington Irving's short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" was published in 1820 (when the USA was still a relatively new country). It was a sign that this new state and its society was creating its own culture at the same time in connection with the cultural and literary currents of the West, i.e. Europe at that time. And it's good to see you with Dash's new vlog. Good luck. Regards.

I studied Irving in college. I hadn't read him before and I enjoyed his stories. They're actually really accessible for that time period (seemed that way to me)
I wrote a short story about Legend of Sleepy Hollow for a school assignment. We were to pick a story and write from a different POV. One of the best assignments ever. So fun. (I should go find that story....) I think I was from Katrina's POV.

Hello Dari! I’m so pleased to see you enjoying yourself so much. I’m especially happy to see that you visited Sleepy Hollow. It looked like such a fantastic visit to celebrate Halloween with your friends. As for fear of mass shooting, I know it’s in the back of my mind nowadays, but I’m determined to live my life as best I can without fearing every potential risk to life and limb. Finally, about those times when anxiety takes grip, I’m very glad to hear you were able to get through it with the company of your friends. There is so much going for you, all due to your hard work and willingness to take risks. There’s a reason I follow your channel, your adventures inspire me and entertain me. I don’t even know you, and you contribute positivity to my life. In such a crazy, topsy-turvy world, you making it just a little better with your videos, well, I think that’s a pretty big deal what you do. Keep it up!!!!

Dari, Your videos are so interesting, but mostly I'm pleased that you are being enriched by being a student and learning in the USA. Accounting courses can be very difficult. They always told me "not to drop your pencil", meaning you could miss something when stopping to pick up the pencil. Funny! Congratulations on your test score of 88%. That is a B, and OK. The small town you saw in NY with all the decorations is replicated many times in America. The homes you saw would be upper-middle class in the US, and not ultra-rich, but very nice. Many Americans have the pleasure of this lifestyle! Enjoy your stay and studies, as it may be hard to return to Russia (as I've viewed so many places outside of Moscow and St. Petersburg.) Cheers!

Fabulous video! Fabulous views! Exciting adventure! We are happy you got to enjoy Halloween American-style, Daria. For many like me, it’s our favorite holiday. You are such a stylish dresser. I love those VESSI clothes. Never heard of them. I’ve told you before that you look like a model. I hope that many people back in Russia see your videos. Though America does indeed have serious problems, we certainly value or freedom, and like you and your friends, we love to travel and enjoy life. It just dawned on me that you, Daria, are probably the best ambassador that Russia has. Many Americans like me want to have friendly and open relations with Russia, but, as you know, a certain leader seems to be taking your beautiful country back to the Dark Ages. You could be a bridge between our countries, like the Bridge of Peace in Tblisi.

When I studied accounting, I noticed that those who had the most trouble with it were the ones who tried to 'understand' it, tried to get it to make sense. I found it easy, and it may have been because I approached it differently. I looked at it as I would a game, learn the rules and practice. as you learn and practice more, it eventually comes together. Remember that accounting is not about laws of nature, it's an artificial construct that is just a tool to organize information.
    Hope this helps.

What I think is not helpful are the volume of text that give instructions. I think if instructors pick the right videos for each section, it would help students grasp the subject better. And now they have UA-cam, an incredible platform for education. I wish someone taught me your advice when I was learning it

    Hi Dasha,
Great video! It's your best one yet.
Congrats on your 88 on midterms! That's a difficult course, and your hard work has paid off. Keep it up!
I'm glad you're taking in the city and getting out to see the "real America." Sleepy Hollow at Halloween looks amazing. You should definitely go to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. It's a unique American tradition that you'll never forget.
Your drone footage of the park is amazing. You're really getting good at taking and editing videos.
It was a pleasure to meet your friends from Russia. We're happy to host you all and hope you enjoy your time in the US. It's great to see you all making the most of it.
I recommend not watching the news every day. They tend to focus on negative things. Instead, find a few centrist news websites that aren't politically biased and get your news from there.
Finally, I'm on my second pair of Vessi's. I love them, especially in the spring and fall when it's wet weather. I don't wear them much in the hot summer days, though. I highly recommend them to all your viewers.

Dari, what an very enjoyable video! It is great to see the sights of New York from a new perspective. Please don't let it wear off! Also, don't get detoured from seeing the sights, just because of shootings and what you hear/see on the news. It's always a thought in the back of my mind and everyone else's mind. Try not to let it spoil your plans! That was pretty cool visiting Sleepy Hollow during Halloween. I really love this time of year. Glad you are loving this as well. And yes, we are all shocked at the nice weather during this time of the season. But I take what we get before the snow arrives!
Speaking of Anxiety, this is one thing that can stress you out and change your great personality forever. When your experiencing these feelings, just remember: You are Braver than you Believe, Stronger than you Seem, and Smarter than you Think! Never give your friends up. Never shut the world out. Hey, Life is journey, make the right choices and do your best (Hard work pays off).

The snake wants to see her new shoes.
If it's a copperhead snake, it's venomous. It likes to slither in fallen leaves and debris. If the snake bites me and I die because of that, it's a venomous snake. If I eat the snake and I die because of that, it's a poisonous snake.
Snakes figured prominently in my family's lineage story and curses.

In regard to public shootings, just because something can happen doesn't mean that it will. The likelihood/probability of it happening is actually quite low. The news media always tries to hype it up because it grabs public attention and makes them money.

This video was great. I loved it. I'm 74 and live in the Hudson Valley. I didn't even know that Sleepy Hollow has such a big parade on Halloween. I've been there a few times and saw Washington Irving's home. Kinda interesting. Cemeteries in the NE, which were begun in the late 1800's, all look like the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Cemeteries from the 1700's have simple white marble headstones. As you go west from the coast, everything is younger and younger. The East has the oldest houses, churches, etc, especially Boston, Charleston, and Philadelphia. You looked like a model in those new shoes and hoodie. Very nice.

Others, 90 degrees offset, will see something totally different.

New York was one of the safest big cities in the US from about 2009-2020 and got a little more dangerous after that.
Some credit Bloomberg for those years.
Because it fluctuates different people have different stories / memories.
The best thing to do is to be street smart. Don’t be a target.
Being street smart doesn’t mean acting tough or being mean or pretending everyone is out to get you. Be yourself, and learn off the street, from the city itself. As you do. You’ll be ok.
    Be careful in the subway.
And get that house Geko $14 from pet smart. It will be a good friend.

I honestly don't think about shootings at all... perhaps it's different in a big city. As long as I don't go to the bad parts of town (and don't walk alone at night) I feel pretty safe. Mostly there is just some petty crimes sometimes in my neighborhood like stealing packages etc. I'm trying to think of a time I was scared to be shot...I can't think of one. I've had a couple scary experiences with other things but not in this town (once in the country nearby that was the scariest). Gun violence may be more prevalent other places. When mass shootings happen they make the news because they're big. I only remember a couple lone shootings in this town in many years. More often injuries are fights or stabbing. Only time I saw violence almost directly is when in the town I used to live in (smaller than this) mom saw a guy that was stabbed on the side of the road and used her first aid training to help him. I was 10 then.

Sleepy Hollow is the site of the legend of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman. Disney made a short Cartoon about it.
    ua-cam.com/video/CdZ1Y92eVfM/v-deo.html
Evidently there was a full movie made.

Sleepy Hollow is kind of the gateway to the Catskill Mountains. Route 17 is one of the most picturesque drives. The mountains are very beautiful and it was a popular resort area many decades ago. Further north between Albany and the Canadian border are the Adirondack mountains, also a vacation area.
The entire region was once populated by the Dutch and many of the names of places are Dutch. New York City was originally called New Amsterdam. There are many legends about the Catskills such as Rip Van Winkle.

The Philippines was an American colony just shy of 50 years and the Halloween thing didn’t really catch on. It’s more of a commercial event than anything else. We have more commonality with México’s Día de los Muertos, given our history with Spain. November 1-2 for the country is a national religious holiday.

I'm glad to see that you enjoyed the Halloween decorations and the whole Halloween experience. The tickets on the Metro North Railroad are much more expensive than are the tickets on our suburban commuter railroad in Chicagoland named Metra for traveling a similar distance. So you'll probably find public transit to be cheaper in most other cities you travel to in the USA. The elevated trains in Chicago also have heaters on the outdoor waiting platforms where you push the button for heat but it only works during November through March.

It is good you didn't go to Syracuse Univ. They just got hit by a big snowstorm and another is coming for the weekend. Big difference in weather in NYC and upstate NY. I grew up 40 miles east of Syracuse. I would never move back. I am here, 70 miles north of NYC, just south of Poughkeepsie. Going bike riding tomorrow. Going to be a bit cold, but I can layer up and be OK. Not in upstate NY.

@@DariStep I later found a site with snow totals, and the city of Syracuse got 6 inches, but the further north you went, up to Lake Ontario, it got worse and worse. Right next to the lake, one place had 43 inches. It's called Lake Effects Snow. The warm moist air hits the cold dry air and snow falls. It can drop snow hundreds of miles away, all the way to Albany. I know, I traveled in it on the Thruway many Christmases. I would come up from the south, then travel west at Albany. All the way from Albany to Clinton, near Utica, there could be heavy snow. One time it was so bad, I was in a white out. That is when you can;t see anything but white. It happened for about 30 sec. near Utica. When I could finally see, I was still on the road, but there were numerous cars off the road for the next few miles. My brother used to travel to Buffalo from Plattsburgh every Thanksgiving and Christmas. to his wife's parents. Eventually, they stopped doing that and would go in early Novenber to avoid the snow.. Growing up in Clinton, we thought all of this was normal.

I’m so happy you had a Fantastic Halloween, next year I hope you get to explore some more locations for The Halloween Season, the channel Carpetbagger has a great selection of locations he went to this year, some great suggestions to check out especially for The Christmas Season. For Thanksgiving that is a great time to be with friends, all of you could prepare and share a meal together. As for New Year’s Eve, New York is absolute pandemonium, I would suggest starting out small like a private get together, as it is terribly cold that night and there are lots of crowds, it gets pretty rowdy. If you like to Ski, I would suggest the Western States, like Idaho, Utah or Colorado. Not as expensive as the East Coast, and it rains a lot less. The Airports are packed during this time of year, so be ready for delays in travel. Thank You for the videos 👍

Regarding your anxiety, you should consult at the University because they have a lot of resources to help you overcome your anxieties. They can also refer you to an outside psychologist.
Anxieties are excessive emotions of the survival instinct. Anxieties signal imminent danger but in reality this danger is not real.
A lot of these anxieties, in my opinion, are due to the fact that we don't know our bodies well enough. I assume that a student in medicine would never have such anxieties. We are simply afraid of what we do not know.
The anxiety will disappear when you are convinced that this fear is not realistic and that the danger does not exist.
Waiting to consult, keep doing your things normally and remain optimistic.
    Wish you the best.

Halloween and St Patrick's' day started to catch on in the larger cities in Russia during the early 2000's, but, were frowned upon by the Orthodox Church in Russian since the Eastern church did not recognize those Saint and pressure was put on to stop those festivities.
