What are your thoughts on gating the mic to eliminate feedback?

What do you recommend as far as a console mixer, amplifiers etc. We have been shown a m32 midas we currently have a x32 barrenger controlled by an iPad and we have real issues. Also would like a good solid unit as far as reliability thanks for your response.
