It's all just part of the hobby. You quicky realize that if your not willing to crash it, you don't fly it. You just learn from what happened and start thinking about what plane is going to replace it.
Condolences, what a great looking plane! Looking forward to the Corsair. Thanks for sharing the losses with the wins so we can all learn from each others' experience!
Sorry for your loss. I love the p47! however I don't think it was a radio problem. in the video you can see that while you are pulling the looping he snaps and immediately afterwards he spins. I think you had given too much travel on the elevator and you have exceeded the characteristics of the plane. I apologize to everyone if I wrote errors but I am using the translator.
You are a better man than me! When I crash I feel like I'm in a bad mood for at least the rest of the day! Good for you for being able to shake it off. Thank you for the video, Ive been consider the FG-19 for an old TF p-47 60 size I have, good to know it can take a lickin' and keep on tick'n!
Hi, too little too late , My P51 1/4 scale had the same problem Radio futaba 14 sg flew fine and then went in a death spin , I sent the radio to Ripmax and they found No problem ???? never found out why
Sorry for your loss. I’m lost f 16 1/8 turbine with futaba radio, change to jeti no problem at the moment. That’s hurt but put behind and go further. Blessings
Oof, I’m sorry man, and I think there are quite a number of us who can identify with that combination of dismay and consternation, followed by acceptance, on the walk over to the scene of impact. So glad the jewel in the nose survived, and the wreck went down in an easily accessible place. Thank you so much for sharing, it keeps me inspired to persevere in my own efforts!
Oh man my heart broke with that beautiful plane! Sorry that happened to you mate! I lost my best plane like this. An 88 inch Extreme Flight Yak 54 with a DA60cc engine. I had bought it second hand and the previous owner had done some weird wiring job on the plane. It seemed to fly fine for several months but one day she went off the air as i was coming in to land. One battery was flat but the other one was ok. Obviously the redundancy didn't work. From that day i vowed NEVER to buy a second hand plane ever again! All the planes i've built i have NEVER had one go off the air. Glad the donk survived mate! Subbed to your channel.
The one thing i dislike about this hobby, you can put a whole heap of time and effort into a model making sure everything is right before it's maiden, and it can suddenly go pear shaped during it's flight.
I can honestly say, my reaction as that nosed in, and afterwards, would not be fit for the ears of drunk sailors, much less polite company. I'm impressed by your composure.
Do you think the FG-19 could pull a 13-15lb Beaver on floats? It's designed for a DLE20. The other option would be a FG-21 single but I'd love the radial.
I had three planes lost in a row then a friend had brought it to my attention that people are using high power routers that transmit at 2.4 g that could be causing interference with our receivers, it makes sense I had all three planes flying in a school yard near homes.
It looked as though it was a high speed stall, and ultimately too low to correctly recover from. Gorgeous P47 though! I commend you on how well you handled the situation
Wow iam just in the process of building mine from VQ but the radio is nx10 sad to see her Go beautiful plane lucky with the engine might have to get one cheers Rick
Sorry for the loss...how is the receiver doing? I have had many connection problems and signal issues during these past years so I finally decided to change it
Well this was an excellent promo for the durability of that engine. Never lost a plane on a tactic or futaba. Wow. Looks like just a new fuselage and your back in business
It’s a shame sorry for your loss but I do believe the R617 F Rx is not a HV RX so a 7.4 v battery may have been your problem if I’ve seen the Rx battery right. I also use Futaba and never had an issue please let me know what you found.
I too use Futaba (for years) with a 617 rx and have never had a problem. It's good for 4.8v to 6v. I personally only ever fly on 6v to negate any power drain by operating 6, 7 or even 8 high torque digital servos all at the same time.
I think I might have let out an F bomb at a moment like that. My first big RC crash happened with a T Rex 450 when I forgot to check the tail screws for pre-flight check (never going to neglect that again, live and learn). Lost the control linkage and she spun out. Sorry for the loss of a beautiful plane, glad the engine made it.

Sorry to see that. I fly Futaba as well and never had a brown out like our Specktrum partners. Did that engine fit in the cowl?? I have the same ARF and wanted to do the same set up, just not sure that it would fit inside the cowl.
thanks jason, the fg-19 does fit the seagull p-47 cowl but just barley. i had to cheat the engine down just a little but i was able to make it fit without cutting things up.
Condolences, sympathies, been there and done that so many times I'm now scratch building a 1:20 scale fishing boat. For sure she will be full working fishing, unsinkable, reserve battery back up, can't rule out a shark attack however. 😕
This is why I stick to control line airplanes, and those I don't beautify.....I usually crash them. But I don't get mad....just go oh well, NEXT!!! And a lot cheaper also. But.....sorry about the crash. T'was a beauty.
I know that feeling all too well, it can be overwhelming not knowing why things go wrong after being so careful with your inspections of the craft before take off. Calm and compaosed, maybe. I like to think its more like in complete shock, taken back by this incident. Build > Fly > Crash > Repeat = :-)

Was the cause of the crash ever determined? Had a friend bury a 20 cc Extra on second flight. He had no control on a Futaba 2.4 all new equipment, Life batteries new faast receiver appeared to die,
I have the exact same transmitter and Futaba receivers in several of my newest planes, JR in the rest. I have not flown the Futaba yet. I would be very interested to find out what happened there.
it was the battery, i didnt put my charged battery in the model this time out. when i was packing up i found the freshly charged battery in the flight bag. simply human error not my futaba system.
Nice plane! You are a first! Admitting it was pilot error, and not blaming the airplane manufacturer or the radio. Some guys would be screaming for a new plane because it was cheaply made.
In my experience with RC plane gear the expensive is no better than the cheap. If you can get your hands on the older crystal type transmitter and receiver all your problems will disappear, and your bank account will look good in the long run.
about 10 years ago, i had a Yak, from Great Planes, and i used to use Life batteries. I only had one battery, no redundancy system in the plane. it had a 30 cc nitro motor in it. It was the first flight of the morning. I had charged the battery that morning. I checked the voltage before hand, and took her off. I then flew her for 9 minutes and landed the plane. As I was taxiing her back, all of a sudden, the motor quit and one elevator dropped. On the ground, all of a sudden, I had lost radio control of the airplane. Then I checked the battery, and the voltage was 4.2 that is when I knew, never again use a LIFE A123 battery. So sorry my friend.
Hi and thanks. If you go to my videos i just answered the prop nut question on the snafu fg 19 engine made it video. It was a question a few weeks ago.
Seems not to be a radio problem. Just pulling too hard when trying the loop (1/4) and the plane snaps. Then the stick is kept pulling backwards and she never flies again. Boom! Saw that many times at my airfield, and always the same yell from the pilot: Lost radio! I had a 1500mm and a 84" P-51D Mustangs, and a couple of other itchy airplanes. Those warbirds have some wing loading and need careful inputs 😉
It's so, so common to blame the radio in a moment of "shock" when a model nails the ground hard, when in 95% of cases it's pilot error, or the assembler of the ARF made mistakes in the control system or electronics layout!! "I got Hit, I got Hit" Sure looked like a accelerated stall to me, although a P47 is the most forgiving warbird there is!
So sorry, mate; what a gorgeous aircraft... But then, we are all humans and have had these moments. Hope you can rebuild it with reasonable effort; it's well worth it. Take care!
That sucks. This hobby is tough sometimes. Lost my share of warbirds overtime. Got a super cub with countless flights on it. Warbirds.......not so much.
I went with HiTec after losing 5 airplanes in a row. Then I had problems with their 8 channel recievers and lost 2 more. The micro receivers had two failures too. I miss my old pre '90s gear that never failed. Even on 72 kHz. Beware of flying around powerlines, chain link fences, metal buildings and schools. 2.4 ghz. Is not infallible and it doesn't work as well around the above mentioned hazards. Remember flying on 28 kHz? Ouchies for your airplanes.
You handled that as tho you were almost expecting it. I mean wow you kept your cool. I would have turned into a 5yo real quick. Hahaha And good on ya for looking at the bright side of it. Hats off to ya sir. 👏
Another fine example of how ARF's are NOT built to hit the deck.......I have a 73" Phoenix Extra 330SC that is missing everything forward of the firewall, and it went in a LOT softer and from a lot lower than this did. Glad the Saito pulled through, it would have been a serious tragedy if you'd bent that.....the "kinda-like" carboard and plastic airframe it was dragging around is no great loss in my opinion. It might be a tad late now, but next time you'll check those batteries won't you ?
I got a big laugh when you mentioned in a newer video how THIS was your most popular video. So I had to come back comment and like to promote it more. ;) All I do is crash so maybe I have a future as a RC UA-cam star!
i really had to think before i uploaded this video but it is how it is! of course pain and misfortune are always more popular than anything else. seriously though if all you uploaded was crash videos you would be a huge you tube star!!! =D
@@jagdpanther9 I could pretend to be an rich arrogant ass that always blames my equipment when I obviously have little flying skill, that way everyone would enjoy my crashes guilt free... This is a great idea ;)
Phuck that hurts when i see vids like this, probable simple thing as a power disconnect in plane ( futaba rules . I been having bad luck at air strip ( We are a special breed ! nothing can keep us down ! play hard !
It's a shame to drill such a pretty plane! at least you had a great attitude about it and you still have some of the the expensive parts to rebuild! I know it may seem cheesy but I still use those little $5 LED battery status strips that plug into the receiver, the minute I turn on I know where I stand with power.
Hope the engine was ok, but for the arf model, you can go get another exactly like the first, right off the shelf!! That's the great thing about ARF's, there is no emotional attachment to the model, because you didn't build it!!
Hey man, .. you put out good videos. Disappointing, the crash. This is half guess, half question .. is it possible that something could have shifted, or dislodged, that last second of hard maneuvering, that you did have control? If so, .. causing a pulled apart wired connection? That 3 cylinder engine looks pretty sweet. How are you enjoying the weather? .. I live in southern Minnesota, too. Thanks
@@brownie6451 oh hey, not taken that way. it is the truth. this model had a 617 RX which is a sort of base line RX for futaba. i have better RX for my giant models . i am usually very much on top of these things but this time it cost me.
Omg !!! I'm so sorry for your loss!!!! Ive seen your builds and how time and luvvv u put into them and when S@&&TT like this happens I know it Hurt's...THATS krazy that a futaba radio went dead on u as u said??? thanks ray, the radio was fine and it was me that didnt put the charged RX battery in the model. i found the freshly charged battery in the flight bag when i was packing up for the day.
@@jagdpanther9 ohhhhh no!!!! Well u know we all make mistakes.. Does your futaba radio have a TX & RX battery display on the LCD screen?? I know the newer futaba radio's have that function.. I have an old school futaba radio that doesn't have that display and I may sound a little over cautious but I've had a similar situation happen to me one time, not as large scale as your mishap but with a old gas stick .20 plane. My tx battery went dead right after it got airborne and all functions went nutty and I was able to crash land it without any major issues.. So after that mishap. I charge my batteries and hit umm with the ol volt meter before I slap them in any of my rc stuff ..just cause... I bought a fly sky radio with the bind n fly receiver tech... There a Chinese brand radio and there no futaba, but damm do they work great!! And they have the tx and Rx battery display on the LCD screen and give me a warning when the batteries go low.. I just luvv fly sky radio's... Well I hope u get ur p47 up and runnin soon.....take care...
i noticed it right before the roll when i was coming out of the left bank it wanted to keep banking. the voltage was in and out and i had one zip of throttle response then nothing. nearly positive my LIFE just dropped off but possible came un plugged? bad switch? usually i run a 2s lipo with a CC sbec and in other models i simply have no switches and just plug in the battery to make it live. its done now.
@@jagdpanther9 guarantee it was the battery. Had the same almost exactly happen to my p51. Roll and it tried to keep in then it falling leafed in upside down. 0 controll. Battery slid forward and came unplugged. Weird because I had a redundancy battery but it was of no use. Power board still works. Battery still works but just out of nowhere battery pulled loose. Even with a velcro strap and velcro on the battery and fuse
Just getting back into the hobby..now that everyone has gone 2.4 I’m going to stick with 72 pcm. Sorry about the plane..I’ll be scraping up parts again at some point too..lol.
I highly suggest you don't. With all the new radio frequencies from wifi to cell phones to 5g and the new police and fire fighter radio towers. 72mhz doesn't work well at all. I suggest going with futaba Its expensive but never lost a plane.
@@krotchlickmeugh627 those are all way higher frequency than 72mhz. WiFi routers digital networks and fire ems are all much farther from 72 than 2.4. But we’ll see. We’ve never really had a problem with it since I’ve been flying. I do like the shorter antennas though. Now for park flyers and micro planes..2.4 all the way. Line of sight close range, for sure.
@@design2survive youre incredibly misinformed. Yes while they are on a different band obviously. They interfere with 72. Good luck. I'm trying to help not lecture you so ill bite my tongue. But crossfire can go further than 8-10 miles so idk what you think you know but again good luck
@@krotchlickmeugh627 I just watched a crash, line of sight, great pilot, futaba fasst, and 2.4. No obvious failures. Ymmv. I was all into it until watching a bunch of vids with the same thing happen, and reading forums where it happens all the time. The band is good for things like WiFi and baby monitors. 800mhz would be a great balance..shorter antennas, decent range, digital modes, a bit of propagation in case you end up behind a twig. But it wouldn’t blow rf into the next county. I’ll wait for that system to show up.
@@design2survive lmfao you're an idiot. You obviously know nothing. Crossfire for instance. But good luck on your journey old man. May even fpv my turbine yak out to a mile just for you
Did you ever figure out what caused your radio to blank out? The reason why I asked is I like you. Have never had a futaba do that before. That really sxares me because I am getting ready to maiden a 72 inch fiverglass fuse P-47 razorvack done in silver and olive drab trim.
I have to disagree. He was attempting full throttle and you could hear he had NOTHING. You’re absolutely going to stall being unable to increase airspeed. So yes it was a stall, but not pilot error. In my opinion.
Looked like a stall to me and then unable to pull out due to either continuing to hold up elevator which kept the plane in a stall or it was borderline tail heavy, which would make the plane respond in the same way. Looked like sufficient altitude to let the nose drop, add throttle and pull out, but if tail heavy, it will stall again.
yea it's been a couple years now and i do miss this model. i want to buy another one as i still have 2 perfect cowls and other parts that made it but my fg 19 r3 is on a top flite corsair. the fg-19 really made this model for me.

I like your tie
So sorry, mate; what a gorgeous aircraft... But then, we are all humans and have had these moments. Hope you can rebuild it with reasonable effort; it's well worth it. Take care!
Yep. I know that feeling all too well.
Wow sorry for your loss man...But did you attempt a loop?
That sucks. This hobby is tough sometimes. Lost my share of warbirds overtime. Got a super cub with countless flights on it. Warbirds.......not so much.
I have to say since worked in a model shop and witnessed lots of futaba crashes I haven’t trusted it for years
Have flown Futaba for 30 years, nary a radio problem
Hahaha
And good on ya for looking at the bright side of it.
Hats off to ya sir. 👏
Noooo !! Mi spiace tantissimo !!! ! Per fortuna il motore sembra ok !!
Un saluto ! Ciao
That sucks!!! I'm sorry man
I got a big laugh when you mentioned in a newer video how THIS was your most popular video. So I had to come back comment and like to promote it more. ;)
All I do is crash so maybe I have a future as a RC UA-cam star!
i really had to think before i uploaded this video but it is how it is! of course pain and misfortune are always more popular than anything else. seriously though if all you uploaded was crash videos you would be a huge you tube star!!! =D
@@jagdpanther9 I could pretend to be an rich arrogant ass that always blames my equipment when I obviously have little flying skill, that way everyone would enjoy my crashes guilt free... This is a great idea ;)
Nem sempre o mais caro, é o melhor...
Was a nice airplane, sorry for your loss.
Ładny model. Wypadki się zdarzają... Zakłóceń coraz więcej. Interferancja fal...
I've lost 3 planes with Futaba then I started using Spektrum and it's been good since
Hope the engine was ok, but for the arf model, you can go get another exactly like the first, right off the shelf!! That's the great thing about ARF's, there is no emotional attachment to the model, because you didn't build it!!
Thanks! The engine did make it and is now in a TF Corsair kit build. Check in my videos on my channel back a few years.
Any postmortem? Battery connection or RX crapped out?
i am leaning toward battery connection. i have used the 617 RX in another model and it is just fine.
Hey man, .. you put out good videos.
Thanks
Sorry about your loss that was a nice plane. Just wondering don't that fancy Futaba have a low voltage alarm for your batteries? My $180 FrSky does.
After reading this it sounds a little snippy wasn't my intent sorry.
@@brownie6451 oh hey, not taken that way. it is the truth. this model had a 617 RX which is a sort of base line RX for futaba. i have better RX for my giant models . i am usually very much on top of these things but this time it cost me.
What snafu was this?
This was the seagull p-47.
What a shame😂That was a beautiful plane.
Omg !!! I'm so sorry for your loss!!!! Ive seen your builds and how time and luvvv u put into them and when S@&&TT like this happens I know it Hurt's...THATS krazy that a futaba radio went dead on u as u said??? Futaba radio's are bullet proof..... I hope u figure out what happened?? I hope u. Rebuild this plane and get it back up in the air...... Take care man.....keep the vidzz comin to........ Ray
thanks ray, the radio was fine and it was me that didnt put the charged RX battery in the model. i found the freshly charged battery in the flight bag when i was packing up for the day.
Well I hope u get ur p47 up and runnin soon.....take care...
it seems something happend after the last flying roll...all links in place?
i noticed it right before the roll when i was coming out of the left bank it wanted to keep banking. the voltage was in and out and i had one zip of throttle response then nothing. nearly positive my LIFE just dropped off but possible came un plugged? bad switch? usually i run a 2s lipo with a CC sbec and in other models i simply have no switches and just plug in the battery to make it live. its done now.
Great attitude.
what did you do with it?
Did it fly again?
Thank you. It is still all in a paper grocery bag wairing for doner parts.
@@jagdpanther9 well hope you find a use for it
Wow that was tough to watch sorry my friend.
I suggest going with futaba
Its expensive but never lost a plane.
Today I'm flying my super steerman with radial, p51 with Saito 180 and electric start and one of my 5 3D 100cc planes with futaba and spektrum gear. Good luck with your antenna.
May even fpv my turbine yak out to a mile just for you
Am so sorry for your loss such a shame was it the receiver?
Did you ever figure out what caused your radio to blank out? The reason why I asked is I like you. Have never had a futaba do that before. That really sxares me because I am getting ready to maiden a 72 inch fiverglass fuse P-47 razorvack done in silver and olive drab trim.
Yes.it was a clip for the RX battery connector .simply put the battery came un plugged.there was no fault with my futaba radio.
that's the second futaba I've seen go in
Futaba. Congela na hora!
And that's why I do model railroading.
Ouch.
One of the servo crank arms broke probably rudder by appearance on loss of control dynamics.
Oh 😳 dude...that was painfull
I would like to have you by my side in a crises, very calm after losing the plane..
That was a tip stall, when the plane went straight up it was going too slow. Those wings were fighting for lift.
I have to disagree. He was attempting full throttle and you could hear he had NOTHING. You’re absolutely going to stall being unable to increase airspeed. So yes it was a stall, but not pilot error. In my opinion.
@@JN24185 And the first thing you seem to do is pull up increasing the stall.
Situation normal all f’d up ! 😊 S.N.A.F.U.
“We’ve lost her” priceless
yea it's been a couple years now and i do miss this model. i want to buy another one as i still have 2 perfect cowls and other parts that made it but my fg 19 r3 is on a top flite corsair. the fg-19 really made this model for me.
