- the seagull p-47 is a good model for my FG-19R3 saito radial engine. the model weighs 9.5 lbs and as it ends up the wee little 19 cc flys this p-47 just fine! the 19 cc radial is rated at just shy of 2 hp. where as a 20 cc DLE makes over 2.5 hp. i decided that the hangar 9 20cc p-47 is too big and heavy of a model for the wee little radial. eventually i would like to mate the FG19 to my topflite .60 gold corsair but for now it is great fun in this P-47! =D

Absolutely gorgeous airplane...
Although I already have a DLE 20 for my Snafu I am so tempted to go with this motor. Nothing beats the sound and this model deserves that sound. Thanks for posting this video.
Thanks. The dle would fly it like crazy. this little .19 radial sounds so neat and still plenty of power. The downside is there is some tinkering to make these run right and they are spendy.
Awesome. I remember firing up my dad's U control. The old Red Head McCoy. 35 series. Man did I end up busting my fingers. Sliced the S#!t out of them.
hey steve, your dad was a big inspiration to me when i was growing up. i remember him flying u control up at the park in the 70s =D
Nice model And I also have the same old radios they are incredible engines once you figure out the right oil and how to set the carburetors
You should be running klotz original techniplate at 15-1
That is according to ray English who is Mr. Saito
The kl 200 will give you the best Is lubrication for the bottom end And give you more power
It's a beautiful warplane! I am about to start mine (in kit form), planning to install the DLE 20RA, however what would your thoughts be regarding the Saito FG33 Radial? Would it fit in the Cowl? /Weight/Power??
Lovely match, I’v just put the 33 in the Yak 11 Reno, the smaller Saito’s really can be made to run nicely. 👍
I love your channel! From watching your videos and living through this whole covid thing I've been inspired to come back to my long-time hobby of model building. I've built many models but not since my teens. I noticed you've done a ton of Guillow's conversions to electric but no F4U Corsair. I'm about to start that model myself but was wondering if you had any suggestions for an electric motor? I only ever built them for rubber band powered flight...
Thanks brian! never loose that passion for these models =D. i have a sig corsair that i planned to build at some point. i think the Gforce E400 1250 kv should fly it fine on a 2 cell or go for it with the E400 2400 kv on a 3 cell. value hobby has a great selection of motors escs and servos.
nice plane and nice flying
Did you end up putting it in the 60 size corsair? And if did how did it perform?
Yes i did! I really flys nice! Go to my channel and look back a ways in my videos. There are a few vids with flight review.
Did you fix the engine according to the original factory thrust line? Are firewalls hardened by extensions?
The thrust line was a little lower than original factory thrust line. The firewall was very solid and engine fit without much trouble.
@@jagdpanther9 Does the engine extend a few millimeters forward?
Nice plane, What type of Hobby King landing gear are you using?
What modifications, if any, did you make so the engine would fit in he cowl?
Hi. I just moved the engine down a little lower from the C/L where the manual said to mount it also not as much right thrust Then it fit just right. It flew nice !
Obviously plenty of power.
Nice engine sound, nice plane.
Are you using the original retracts?
thanks! the seagull retracts were a waste of time. i did try to make them work but no dice.these came from hobby king electrics for less tham 30 bucks for the pair. so far so good! these are the seagull oleos and wheels.
Do you get HK parts from USA warehouse only? I find shipping from HK global to be more than the product! Any tips?
hi, i have used both global and us warehouse. you pay more from the us warehouse but you get it quicker. if im in no hurry i order from global warehouse also better selection from global warehouse.either way i have had very few issues with HK product or shipping . i hope i didnt jinx myself!! =D
Nice video! Are you planning to make some new guillows conversions?
Thanks! i am looking forward to flying the guillows models i have already built so there will be more videos and some Q and A with these guillows models. my next build ( i think) will be a topflite gold series .60 corsair =D
Flying very scale like.
I have a RCV 120 sp and have always wondered if it would have enough woof and chuf for the seagull snafu swinging a 15 x 12 apc four blade .
it might, the rcv 120 sp is 1.8hp. this fg19 is 1.9 hp. my model came in right at 9.5 lbs. i figure 10 lbs would be the limit .
i had a rcv 90 in a 2400mm 7,2 kg. swinging a 18x14 propeller. it flew, but was underpowered….
Hi , are you on Facebook , as I have built one identical and wanted to ask a few questions
When the engine is about 3 times the cost of the plane its hard to justify not having enough power.
yea, this engine was allot of work to even get it running well enough to fly. it fouled 3 plugs during break in and these plugs are not cheap. i converted it to rcexcel plugs and it runs good now. i did however get into this engine right. i traded some cash and another model for it new in the box so im not quite as butt hurt as i could be =D
你使用多大的螺旋槳 ?
15x6 xoar laminated
@@jagdpanther9 Thank you
Don't you have cooling problems with this cowling
No.i baffled it in front between the cylinders and it seemed to work fine with the fg19.
you could have overcome the under-powered performance by putting 4 blade prop on it for more thrust.
No you couldn’t, the extra load would lower the engine RPM producing less thrust and overheat the engine.
