The quickest way to learn to type is to be a programmer. By necessity you will need to learn to type relatively fast. I don't hit 100 WPM but I'm fast enough to be proficient. I never meet limitations when I write day-to-day scripts for work.
Unless you are a secretary, fast typing isn't practical. As a writer, most people also do not need to type quickly. Good writing should have form, intention, and purpose (even stream of consciousness).
Curious to see what you write about on a day to day basis now. I've become rather fond of you, haha.

Taking it one step further, just getting a job in any field that forces you to type will be a "quick" way to learn typing!
Same as you, I just never have encountered a typing situation in my life where I have thought to myself "I wish I could type X WPM faster", it usually is those other aspects that you mention (form, intention and purpose) that are the things we worry about in those moments.
Haha glad that my content resonates with ya! I usually start off by typing a summary of my day (when I type at the end of the day) or a generic checklist of "what I need to do make this day a good one" at the beginning of the day. That often times leads to me going deeper into specific thoughts.
Another big chunk of my writing is to extract segments that I find relevant for UA-cam videos and write an outline of my thoughts for said video. So this video has a note on it with over 2000 words in it. I don't really follow it word for word when I do the recordings but it is a great way to organize my thoughts and get to a state where I feel ready to hit that record button.

Dictation is 2x faster than typing, it's like 300-400 wpm. But has it's disadvantages. Speed typing isn't really as important as thinking.

If we are aiming for speed then totally, dictation is probably the fastest! I tried it for awhile for my journaling needs and it just created so much excess. It was also really hard to filter through and pick out the important parts.
So I totally agree with ya (like you probably noticed in the video :P) that speed really isn't that important in the grand scheme of things.

I'll look into it and if I find a reason to try it out then I will!
For future reference, you should probably post that in one of my older but more relevant oral health videos next time :P
