    Totally broken hearted for having sold mine during hard times. Had the extra cabinet, too... but I rarely used it. I sold it for $425. Can't find a good one anywhere for twice that now. When you have someone with a Marshall JCM900 and 2 4x12's ask you to turn down your .22 caliber combo amp when you've got plenty of room left on the master... It makes you feel pretty smart for traveling light. Yes, that actually happened.

    I got two of them - never needed another amp since the 90's. Rock & Roll or Southern Rock sounds great with it. It's hard to get a bad sound out of it.
    Great amp and awesome review.

    Thank you for your excellent video. I learned a couple things about a product I've owned for quite a while. I've owned one of these since 2007. It was in poor condition so I had lots of fun rehabbing it. Mesa is great for having parts for a product they haven't produced since 1993! I hadn't played it much since I got a Z wreck in 2012. I just sold the wreck and got the Studio 22+ out again. It was love all over again. It sounds really great with the Thiel cab. It works really good with the amp because the open back combo cab and the slot ported thiel have slightly different ballistics and resonance that are very complimentary.

      My friends got the pre-amp rack and the combo....so in effect, 2 Studio 22's. He got problem with the Reverb not working on his rack version......I reckon its the pre-amp valves....he thinks maybe the reverb unit itself. Will help him do some tests tomorrow, hopefully repair it for him.
      9 times out of 10 its Valves when theres any problem on a valve amp..... as there pretty indescribable .
      In 1980's n 90's the military still used valve radios in the field...as in the event of a Nuclear War, all transistors would be blown by the electro-magnetic fields , produced by the blast...rendering all electronic equipment useless.....But valve work fine still !! So says a lot about the resilience of the valve.

    • @riccaregio
      @riccaregio 8 років тому

      if I remeber correctly usually the third valve from the left (facing the back of the amp) use to worn out faster than the others at least on mine and on another 22+.

    I have one of these amps from the 80's but it doesn't have the "lead master" knob and it doesn't have the eq. If I am not mistaken, this one with the eq is the Studio plus. Mine doesn't have the rocker switches but has two metal toggle switches, one for standby and the other for power.

    This amp is actually the studio 22+. There is still a confusion everywhere on the web between the studio 22 (without the lead knob but with the EQ) and the 22+.

    • @Rockshredder
      @Rockshredder 7 років тому +1

      I just made this comment and then scrolled down to see yours. What difference does the lead knob make? I still have and play my Studio 22. I use it through a 4x12 1960 Marshall cab.

  • @paulwatson9217
    @paulwatson9217 3 роки тому

    Just bought the original none plus one. Added the foot switch to the graphic & made the reverb foot switchable as well. Now I just need to split the lead channel off the clean and I recon it will be a plus with the extra advantage of foot switchable reverb :-)

    Killer vid! It's not the big Recto's that made the Boogie name. I used to intern in a pro studio, one of my tasks was to sneak the guitarists back & forth past the MB .50 cal 12", so they'd not lose their inspiration, realizing it was a little combo that was like God screaming in their cans! I gotta get a little 22 for my home recording project, Strat, SG & V.
    Thx for the enthusiasm & very informative tack. Aloha!

    • @NellySlideGuitar
      @NellySlideGuitar  8 років тому

      It does sound good.....I'm realy fussy when it comes to amps, usually if it made after 1973 not interested, they never sounded as good....but the boogie really has that genuine valve sound, you could easily get other heavier sounds, simply by adding a metal distortion pedal....if thats the sound you wanted.
      Probably the most flexible eq set up ever made on an amp ...I love the graphic footswitch. But again you could easily get same effect, by using a Graphic EQ pedal to stomp in.....so theres always a way of rigging it up !! Ahoy

      Ace of spades tour....last tour with the famous Bomber lighting rig- A lifesize ! W.W.2 B52 flying fortess !! made from lighting rig/scaffold poles, Hoisted above the stage. Hydraulically controlled,so it would bank side to side or dive down or climb up...At one point all lights dimmed and sirens started,spotlights were searching in the dark,and Philthy Animal Taylor ( The Drummer), was suddenly sitting up in the cockpit flying the bomber....complete with Airmans googles and sheepskin flyers jacket....Legendary Band !!

      Got a proper valve sound........Tried a couple of the new fender retro heads...Vibmaster or Bandmaster something like that...so I'm asking is it the same as the originals......"Yeah definately" the shop guy said.....
      As I used to borrow my friends 1964 biege ,brown front,cream knobs...Bandmaste, it was about 60w...tho always thought it was 100w.....So I'm playing away, testing this amp in the shop, but not sounding right...the old ones sounded heaps better......Anyway I got home and ended up continuing on my quest for the Holy Grail....an amp I like !! As its name suggests...it was made for Studio use ....as in ,only rated at 22w in volume...
      (so it overdrived at lower volume )......BUT....When Boogie make an amp......for instance there 50w mark 4 combos, they're as loud as most 100w amps.......So the Studio 22 rated at 22w is more like 40-50w in volume...
      Would it keep up with a drummer ??...YEAH for Sure.....My friend gigged it last week....With Master Volume on 3-4....and you've still got loads of Vol in reserve !!
      If you needed a little more volume on stage, you can get that little bit extra from the monitors anyway.
      All Good !! Ahoy.

    el84s and heavy distortion.....isnt my idea of a good weekend....ok for cleanish classic sounds but you can't get heavy without some big bottles
