    On my truck when i let it run for a bit. It starts to get hot. Would that be a bad thermostat too.

    I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado. I replaced the water pump. The old water pump did not have a thermostat. I bought a new thermostat and placed it into the water pump and installed it. When the truck is driving, the temp gauge stays in the middle. When I’m idle, the temp gauge raises above the halfway point. It stays between the halfway point and the 3/4 line. It goes up and down from this point until the vehicle drives, then it stays at the middle point. The heater works and there is no smell of coolant. Is this a problem?

    • @Amundred
      @Amundred  8 місяців тому +3

      It should not be an issue as long as it is not overheating! The gauge on the dash is not the most accurate, so it tends to fluctuate a bit occasionally. :-)
      Just keep an eye on things and ensure that the coolant level stays full, that the gauge does not go too high, and that everything should be good to go!

    Nice to see you giving that air bleed funnel a 2nd chance😂
    What happened to the heated garage?
    You should have mentioned how you actually diagnosed that the issue was the thermostat originally 🤔

    • @Amundred
      @Amundred  Рік тому +1

      Yeah...the heated garage only works when you can close the door 😂
      As far as diagnosis...the truck ran normally, but the temperature would rise to running temps and the heat would not blow warm air...and the coolant overflow tank was not getting as warm as it should. Then the truck temp would get higher than normal if it ran for a while and still no heat = bad thermostat... 😲
      🤷

    Did you drain anything from the coolant or did you just dive in? If that's all the coolant that will come out. Then I'll take the route not to drain it.

    • @Amundred
      @Amundred  11 місяців тому +1

      The little bit that came out is all that comes out this way...the only coolant that will drain is what is higher than this point in the engine/radiator and you can control how much leaves the radiator with hose placement :-) Still enough to need a catch pan or something as it will be messy...but you are not losing gallons of coolant either

    I have one question..I have a 6.0 that is fluctuating on the tempature.. would that be a thermostat going out or the water pump?

    • @Amundred
      @Amundred  9 місяців тому +1

      Usually when a thermostat goes bad it gets stuck opened or closed and the temperature is usually steady still....usually...there are always special circumstances.
      Other than the dash gauge fluctuating, are there any other symptoms? Heat not working, smell of coolant when the vehicle warms up, etc?
      It is possible that the temp sending unit is going bad as opposed to a mechanical failure of a part too.
      The other likely issue would be air in the coolant system.

  • @leonidmccoy4334
    @leonidmccoy4334 11 місяців тому +1

    You could have just drained it out the radiator
