  • Trevor Ncube sits down with prominent Zimbabwean human rights lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa. She has been internationally recognised for her defense of journalists and press freedom, and in 2008, The New York Times described her as "Zimbabwe's top human rights lawyer". In this episode, Trevor and Beatrice discuss her long-spanning legal career, and she shares on what has guided her ongoing fight for justice and what she believes are the barriers to a strong justice system in Zimbabwe.

Beatrice Mtetwa is just a beacon of hope for the citizens. Imagine whilst incarcerated she drafted the cases of other inmates and went on to fight for their justice. This woman is amazing, if all women would use their voices to defend the nation we wouldn’t be in a situation we are right now.

... "we have a deficit of accountability, trust... state(captured) courts not performing their tasks", well said Mr Ncube, but are you doing enough to influence change as an advisor to the President?

It's very much easy.Change or completely remove the executive of course by us the citizens, and bring in political leadership that respects the rule of law and ultimately the whole system will follow suit. The day us citizens will remove the executive by voting out of toitoing to have them removed the whole system will automatically switch on.

@@monicamungoni6115 male or female leader I don't mind. We need stronger institutions and strong structures at grassroots level. The govt must become accountable to the people. Councillors should know they represent the people to council, MPs should know they represent the people to govt. Not what we have of leaders representing govt to the people and councilors representing the council kuvanhu. Our interests are served nowhere and the leaders we vote for choose to represent interests of the govt and party ahead of us.

I would love to hear about her background. I grew suspicious when she could not pronounce Mberengwa. Secondly the awards hipped on her are suspicious. Such people make me think twice before believing in their sincerity. There is a danger the local people may overate them and foreigners may find her a hole through which to wreck havoc within us to fulfil their own interests.
