when my 55 gallon was stable i couldnt keep torches to save my life , water always level,clean a little bit detrius, but other than that all good ,help a brother OUT
My hammer coral died within a few days of getting it. All because it does not like flow at all. The reef store failed to help, and the thing died because it could not handle being outside of the stores frag table. Perfect quality water and the thing just turned to mush as soon as it felt a little breeze of water flow.

I have a question. What can i do to encourage my hammer to fully open up. I’ve tried moving on the middle section of the tank, the top, the bottom. I’ve also tried adjusting the light and flow and still not opening up, it’s only been a few days since i got it any tips?
I had the same problem. I finally just left it alone and about a month or so later, it opened all the way. Once that happened, I can move it anywhere and it always opens back up. Just let it be in a low to medium flow area and give it time. Mine is now on the bottom in the sand and is fully open.
I recently bought a wall hammer coral that was frag from its original colony. It's not doing well after 4 days of doing really well. Right now all the tentacles are receding. I've checked all my parameter and they're within your recommended stats. Do you have any other idea?
I commented before about how my tank was overgrown with Xenia, I'm doing some rearranging now, planning on restocking it with Zoas, another montipora, and candy canes. I'd possibly like to try one of these as well, but I'm kind of cautious.
Definitely get some hammers, I have had no problems at all, keep flow on the lower side and enjoy, branching are easier, if in doubt watch this video,guy is spot on.
It can be tricky, the thing with those types of algae and bacteria is that they like areas of low flow, try pointing a powerhead towards the spot its growing, I would also ramp up water changes and blow it off the rocks with a baster of some sort.

Does hammers have different types? I saw some long polyps, and some are short, looks like cabbage

Might have to lower the intensity of that light. The AI is a ton more powerful than the stock fluval light.
you mention cheap LEDs , i use beamswork . 65 led somthing . on a budget

Hard to say honestly, im still trying to figure out why my corals are dying.

Keep them in medium light and lower flow and they should do good. Check water parameters.
Great garden! I know it's been 2 years, but about how many inches do you space the frag plugs between hammers?
I did probably 4-5 inches between each one.

Thats tough man usually when they start to recede they die in my experience. Try moving him lower in the tank and out of the flow, see if that helps.
nice informative video and cool hammers. what do you dose for keeping vibrant hammers?
I used to dose BRS calcium and alkalinity and magnesium.
How do you get your nitrates up...
Feed a LOT, thats pretty much it, dont get them above 5ppm though.

Try one man, if you are able to successfully grow all those corals, you wont have a problem with any euphillia corals like hammer corals.
