YES! Imagine each of the continent having an artist to represent their culture I kinda would love to see some Kabuki inspired character now (Edit: Yaaas Scaramouche is!)
Yun Jin says in the character menu she likes rock music and goes to Xinyan's rock concerts, even though the other opera people scorn her for it. That makes the fact there's subtle rock elements in this song all the more fitting and awesome, since it really reflects her character.
As a kid who grew up in a family of Chinese opera singers, this was an amazing cutscene to watch in my first playthrough. Had me in tears 😭 it’s so beautiful
@@Vizible21 bro that’s mess up this is Chinese peking opera this is how it’s supposed to sound, you wouldn’t like it if someone said something bad things about your culture
Honestly the voice combined with the visual art is what gets me. The animation tied and the settings matching the vocals just makes it even more appealing
This is the Reason why a lot of us Genshin players actually play the game, The Lust for characters is for shits and giggles, but Moments in the game like this really make the game the reason we want to continue the Journey of Teyvat.
I only came to Genshin Impact for the anemo emo boys (Xiao, Kazuha, etc.) As a result.. I've been playing for about 2 or 3 years. Damn, and this song in the video is.. So dear and cozy to me. Simply.. I remember the first time I entered the genshin impact. How I got to this song. Admiration was already flowing through my heart, and my eyes were focused on the small details of the plot and the images of the characters. And music has become a link for me and genshin impact. As a music lover, I cling to game soundtracks, anime, and hold on to them as an escape from sadness. And the music in the genshin impact is what calms me down in difficult times. P.S. Sorry, I wrote too much, but I couldn't help but share my feelings about the Genshin Impact. The text may not be very clear, I wrote with the help of Google Translate, since I do not know English very well. And yes, greetings from Russia, I hope you are in a good mood today.
Even as a Chinese, I don’t Normally listen to Chinese opera. But THIS, the way they combine traditional music with modern music, listening to the lyrics while remembering shenhe’s backstory, just beautiful. That last drop made my eyes run like a waterfall. Mihoyo just keeps on amazing me non stop
My favorite part is how the song isn't just Shenhe's story but also Yun Jin's. The first half is written by Yun Jin's father and a traditional tale of the divine damsel Shenhe who joins the adepti. Yun Jin's new lines tell the story of a mortal Shenhe, where the human experience takes precedence over tradition and deification. The Chinese lines are also literally "The tunes are high, but there are those who understand her song and will harmonize with her music", which can be applied to not just Shenhe but also Yun Jin's music.
as an ethnic chinese, and someone who is training to become a chinese opera singer, i am so so so glad that mihoyo hired a professional chinese opera singer to sing yunjin's part, used traditional chinese instruments such as the gong, guzheng, and pipa in this song. thank you for this excellent representation mihoyo. this brought tears to my eyes. 米哈游,非常感谢。
her voice literally brought tears to my eyes. the way she delivered the tale through the song was simply divine. i really hope they make more of these.
@@devog1842 I'm one of the people that didn't really like the stream showcase of singing, it was random but here, with music? Sounds damn good, something I see myself coming back to listen in the background.
"From the world she seems apart, but there are those who know her heart" This verse always gets me in tears especially till that scene when Shenhe is literally watching Yunjin as she tells her story. It was so beautifully made
It was related to the players as well, subconsciously. Pandemic, tough times, we're all hoping to get someone who knows our heart. I believe that's the reason many teared up.
This is why i wish Characters like Venti and Xinyan had songs, ESPECIALLY Venti since his "song" cutscenes are just awkward poetry and his actor for EVERY DUB CAN SING. There's a bunch of characters who are the top of their field, because the game tells me they are, but Yunjin i BELIEVED she was the best opera singer in liyue.
The thing is that if u put attention to quests u can see that the people that has heard Venti sing are mesmerized like if they were one of the greatest wonders on Teyvat it has even saved lifes like Xiao and has helped cool down the anger of the great serpent of inazuma, AND WE CANT HEAR HIM??!?
@@SasukeTheCursed I definitely agree with you on that point. With the music, she's more tolerable to listen to than without it. But what I have learned from this experience is that I'm not a fan of Chinese classical opera singing. Just not my cup of tea.
@@aslr-vq9ti he commited the crime of having an opinion. how dare he? ps: i think even the music wasn't able to salvage it. i'd trade the vocals for a violin in a heartbeat
I'm American. Just recently made it to this point in the story. I know nothing of China and Chinese culture. I didn't even know Chinese opera was a thing until I came accross this cutscene (the whole time characters in game were mentioning opera my ignorant self was imagining English opera). But this ... This was amazing! It certainly was different than what I expected to hear when I saw the word "opera" on my screen. But I'm so glad Genshin Impact did not shy away from their culture for this one and hired a professional opera singer. This, along with the visual designs and incredible background music in Liyue, is a great way to expose Western audiences to some Chinese art and culture.
I've heard that the official translation is rather abbreviated, so here is a translation of all the Chinese meanings of the songs (because there are so many traditional allusions used, they are simply translated by meaning) In the autumn A pair of loving swans have lost one of them forever. The one who was left behind He falls into endless pain and sorrow, and in this emotion he gradually loses his mind in a frenzy So he offered his daughter as a sacrifice to the devil Praying that the devil would bring his wife back again This decision brought bad news to the world If the maiden who was sacrificed had not decided to take up arms against her destiny Everyone will die in the devil's greed. Like the moon obscured by clouds Her fate in human society has been blurred So with the guidance of the immortals To another path of destiny From then on, she loses her family and relatives in human society Becoming a disciple of the immortals The immortal uses the red thread to stop her doomed fate from going mad (The red line: In Chinese tradition, it is often regarded as one of the materials for sealing. It is also a hint of the line of destiny between people) And before she knew it, decades had passed (Using a traditional Chinese story as an analogy: a woodcutter on his way home sees someone playing chess, he watches in fascination, and when the game is over he returns home to find that a hundred years have passed) Like a swan leaving a trail on the snow Though inconspicuous, though distant But it still leaves traces on her heart When she returned to her hometown, the young girl She found that there was nothing left of her hometown Her village is filled with cobwebs The cloths used at funerals sway in the wind Everything she remembered as vivid had decayed Only ruins remain Everything that once was Dissipates like smoke Yun Jin. The story, it should have ended here But today I would like to add one more page to this story A noble sentiment does not need to worry that no one knows it You're bound to meet someone who understands you You'll get the appreciation you deserve The red tassels that adorn Polearms make a sound as the weapons are wielded with great speed Swords also shine as fast as shooting stars (player) (The battle between shenhe and the player is as beautiful as it is powerful) Just use the weapon in your hand To calm the fierce and turbid waves again(Osial's wife) Yun Jin. At that time The crane flying in the sky wants to go home. But her hometown no longer exists She could only leave alone Today We are here together, enjoying the gathering now Friendship connects our hearts
"So with the guidance of the immortals To another path of destiny" somehow, this lines mesmerized me, you did a great job friend. EDIT : i don't know if this was a literal meaning or just a mistake. but you type "his" instead "her" in the last lines.
The way Mihoyo portrayed Shenhe's story in this cutscene was probably the best way they could've done it. I had high hopes for this patch and I'm defiantly not disappointed
You know why this performance is so touching? It's because we've Learned Senhe's past, current struggle, and we've fought with her. After the grueling quest, this performance is the best reward to us, players. Also the best representation of Chinese literature.
EXACTLY!! I heard the song from my brother who played it a while ago and I only just now got to these quests. But upon learning of Shenhe and her past, etc., this song just tied it all together in a bow. I used to mock Yun Jin and didnt know much about Shenhe, but now these two are part of my favorite characters
As someone who doesn't play Genshin and doesn't know any of the stories, this is still so touching and emotional to me. Maybe it's cuz I'm ethnically Chinese and already have some appreciation towards Chinese opera though
I will never understand people, who have the audacity to mock this. It's absolutely beautiful and I admire the effort Mihoyo put into this scene. I hope to see more like this, I loved it!
It wasn't this that people have mocked, it was the fact that they took just her voice and randomly threw it at the end of her Demo. It was off-putting for them who don't understand the culture, which I think is honestly understandable.

This cutscene actually made me cry when I played it in game, Shenhe's backstory is so well made, along with Yun Jin's beautiful singing voice, and of course the beautiful cutscene, it's just perfect...
It seems to be roughly based on a real chinese opera as well, "the white haired girl" its called. Girl running away from home to live in the mountains, hair turns white, shes misaken for a goddess by locals, there's even a bit about red ribbons in there as well.
After listening to Furina's song, I went back here to listen Yunjin's classical opera song. I really love it when Mihoyo includes different languages especially musicals ❤️
It's so cool! I love that we as players have gotten exposure to different songs, singing styles, and languages via music in this game. It's things like this that really make the game stand out for me. I can tell that the team cares when we get scenes like this and Furina's song.
I don't know if this is how your traditional Chinese opera sounds like, but holy hell this is an absolute banger, just finished the Shenhe Yunjin archon quest today and i'm absolutely blown away
There are different roles in Chinese Opera. Yunjin's role needs to use this voice to sing. This is not for every role but is usually the most memorable and representative voice. So that's why Mihoyo uses this one.
This is a more "modern" genre of chinese opera as it uses the opera tone to sing - 京歌. It's a bit different from the traditional opera. For example, the 1:49 part may be a bit different from other part as this part is more of traditional opera. Nonetheless, this is still autentic Chinese opera.
As someone who grew up in a traditional Chinese home we would listen to opera singers and I loved their music even tho I didn’t really fully understand what they said. It was always the most beautiful piece of art that was always in my heart
This song is so beautiful. Even after all these months, coming to listen again it brings tears to my eyes. I'm not even sure why but something about it really strikes a cord in me.
It’s like the scene in Shawshank Redemption when the opera was played over the PA system. Few of the inmates could understand Italian, but everyone is able to recognise beauty in song when they hear it.
The song was sung in Beijing opera accent, and the lyrics are written in ancient Chinese. The ancient Chinese has many rules,so,you may hear this piece of music rather neat and rhyming. As a Chinese,I can tell that this song contains many ancient and beautiful allusions and legends of China. The lyrics are,in my opinion, extremely gorgeous and fascinating.

I love how the story should have only had a slightly sad ending, but after she meets the traveler (us), it pushes for a more fulfilling happy ending. I feel so warm.
I sing western opera for my college major. Honestly, if it weren’t for me playing Genshin Impact and being able to experience Yun Jin’s scene in the game, I really don’t think I would have ever known the art of Peking Opera. Being able to see such a different style of opera has been such an eye-opening experience for me and I wish we were taught about it in music history. It’s so different from western in so many ways. I think, in my opinion, that Peking has way more emotion involved in it. The staging and the accompaniment are important to the overall mood, but the actual singer holds so much of that momentum and mood in their voice that you don’t even really listen to the accompaniment. All you need is the voice. It’s absolutely spectacular.
It is actually not Peking Opera. It is called Kun Qu or Kun Opera which get popular from 16-18th centuries. Peking Opera was development from it in late 18th century.
@@kathrynnjanemezzo thank you for understanding. No matter Eastern or Western, opera is losing the audience. Young people do not have much interest in the traditional arts. Just like I got amazed by The Nutcracker when I watched the show with my family, but nearly none of my friends are interested about that.
@@jianghanmao3814 I was in my first opera at 14 and I knew immediately that I wanted to keep doing it, so here I am 5 years later going to school for opera! It’s been such a great time
Oh wow, I started crying at 1:54 because the fact that Yunjin wrote us into Shenhe's story made me too emotional. I've never heard a chinese opera before but this was amazing.
For the ones who made laugh at Yujin's singing, we can just ignore them, they are not important at all. Well just like the lyrics in this song (1:56) “曲高未必人不识,自有知音和清词”, this lyrics was translated into “From the world seems apart, but there are those who know her heart.” in the song. But to straightly translate could be “The elegant song may not be looked down by people all the time, because there are always soulmates appreciating to it and beautiful words praising it.” We use “the elegant song” to describe someone who is outstanding or has good personality but always being looked down or misunderstood. And “知音” means “soulmates” which was originated from an ancient Chinese story about Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi. Zhong Ziqi was the only one who knew the beauty of Yu Boya’s music and when Zhong Ziqi dead Yu Boya broken his instrument, called Guqin, sadly because there would be no person knew his music any more. We use “知音” to describe the one who knew another one from heart. I think this lyrics perfectly showed the beautiful personality and good future of Shenhe, and so of Chinese Opera.
It's also magical in how the traveler can be considered Shenhe's soulmate, in that even if you can't find someone nearby who can understand you, there is always someone, out there, even a traveler from distance land, who can understand you.
No one's mentioning how they combined Rock and Chinese Opera together to make something sound super unique I want more of this in the future like how they used rock and latin choirs for La Signora fight because this stuff is candy for the ears
I think they did something similar for Zhongli's trailer, and rock with traditional Japanese music for Kazuha's... and those are two of the best character trailers so far. Coincidence? I think not
I really love this archon quest, not just because we learnt about Shenhe's past, but also how Mihoyo could perfectly fit in an opera performance to describe Shenhe's story. This cutscene is so well-made I still get goosebumps every time I press replay
What MHY has done, is also what the Jing opera community had failed to do. Adding new story to the art. The Jing opera or the Chinese opera as a whole is an dying art. The art itself did not evolve along with time. In a sense, it still dwell in the archon era instead of evolve to human era. Wouldve been interesting if this character will reignite the fire of this art and inspire new content to reflect the human era.
That's really sad to hear about the art of Chinese opera. I think the main reason people are letting it die, is because they are older, and much more stubborn. They don't want to let go of the traditions they grew up holding on a pedestal. The younger gens are more willing for change. It's a shame, and I hope the art doesn't completely die out.
@@林振华-t4v I agree. Every newer generation has been trying to move forward to the modern age. I feel that it may also be because it takes lots of practice and training to attain this level of high-pitched singing & acting, the newer generations look more towards finding other kinds of talents and skills, leading to lesser people touching on Traditional Chinese Opera topics. Given the fact that Mihoyo is now really popular, it made me really happy to see them introducing Chinese Opera as this top-quality cutscene to give everyone a glimpse of its beauty. In response to that, I saw many non-Chinese fans' comments on various youtube videos, showing that they're trying to learn more about this tradition.
Yunjin is so pretty, and her voice is so pure and even. Shenhe's backstory is very interesting too, absolutely the best cutscene I've ever seen. I got her at my first 4-star pity after sacrificial bow on my alt account but I am not gonna regret welcoming her home because I love listening to her sweet singing, will be Yunjin in the future with DPS Lisa :33 Edit: My god, I'm so surprised, thank you so much for the likes! :D
Actually, if you only want Yunjin you could just wait for the lantern festival this year. The event will give you a chance to choose one 4-star Liyue character including Yunjin.
I also got Shenhe by accident, I was just intentionally pulling for Yunjin, but didn't expect to come home at my 6th pull, this was probably because of the pity I got from Albedo's banner. Even though I have no plans to pull for her or even obtain the character, part of me was glad and wanted to use her. Plus, her backstory is just spectacular, and also tragic, her outfit and appearance is just astonishing.
@@pepsy910 In Xinyan's story, her whole character is about bringing rock to Liyue. There is nothing in her story mentioned that she herself was born there, possibly her parents were but there's nothing about that either. If mihoyo wanted to show her, they could've shown her concerts before ingame. Maybe there's more of a chance she'll show since her best friend Yunjin is here but probably not since we don't even get many moments of Xiangling and Xinyan together (even walking in the background/art like Chongyun & Xingqiu) Basically, it just seems mihoyo cares a lot more about their new characters than their previous ones sometimes.

Hi! As a native Chinese speaker, I'd like to contribute my thoughts on the line "曲高未必人不识,自有知音和清词。" ("From the world she seems apart, but there are those who know her heart") The English translation is correct, it's just that it misses out on some of the historical references and literary nuances in the original Chinese lyrics. 1. 知音, which can be literally translated as "knowing note" (as in musical note), is a phrase that can be used to describe "a friend that truly understands you". It comes from the story of Yu Boya, a qin (an instrument similar to a guzheng) player from the Warring States period in China. Yu Boya had a close friend, Zhong Ziqi, who was able to comprehend the meaning behind every piece he played, whether it was the rolling hills or the flowing rivers that he wanted to portray through his music. However, after Zhong Ziqi passed away, Yu Boya was distraught with grief. He felt that there was no longer anyone who understood his music (知音) in this world. So, he broke his qin and vowed never to play for as long as he lived. 2. A literal Chinese translation of the line would be "Although the song she sings is difficult to understand, it doesn't mean no one will appreciate it. Naturally, there will be those who know her heart, and can sing along in harmony." I'm interpreting "高" in "曲高" as "高深", meaning something that is complex (and possibly as a reference to the idiom "曲高和寡"). "识" can mean "understanding", but I personally think it's closer to "praising something's true value" ("賞識"). "和" is usually used as a conjunction meaning "and", but in this case it stands for "harmony" ("和音"). TLDR: Singing is used as a metaphor to show that Shenhe has found someone who can truly understand her :') This is not to say the English translations are inaccurate! It's just that there are instances where they don't manage to capture the spirit of the original Chinese lyrics, and I hope that more people can understand the beauty of archaic Chinese. I'd be happy to analyze some more lyrics if anyone's interested.
And this is why I start improving my mandarin. Thanks you very much for explaining this. When it comes to traditional culture, I always love China and Japan. 😅👍
Thank you for this analysis! Even though I am Chinese, I am way more adept in English and have trouble with dialects or 'flowery language' so A LOT of idioms and the like get lost on me 😩 Luckily for me, I know all the myths and legends so I can use deduction and contextual clues to figure out the 'vibe' or underlying message 🤔 It's still nice to see an explanation though cuz it makes the conclusion so much clearer 😉
i still don’t know why people were saying she sounds bad/mocking it. i don’t even listen to chinese opera (i haven’t heard of it until they announced yunjin) but, she sounds rlly good in this.

Though it is a bit embarrassing to admit, genshin played a huge factor in helping me re-familiarize myself with my culture and though this singing and liyue in general isn’t exactly the most “authentic” it could be (which would make sense because it’s a game), it really does want me to embrace my culture even more and it reminds me a lot of my grandmother who would sit in her apartment peeling fruits for me while listening to Chinese opera on a radio!
@@PykeTyson77 Pretty much sums it up, but see, the classically might not be, but the way it's been implemented here, it's fantastic, it's a banger imo.

I thought Liyue was so masterfully done and was worried Shenhe's part would be lackluster, but they made her story so beautifully tragic but awe-inspiring. Despite the treatment given to her by her fellow humans, and her inability to ever truly connect with the adepti world due to her humanity, she keeps at a border that she eventually breaks. Having a professional opera singer singing such a part was an amazing idea.
As the last part of the first finished it said that she returned to the world of the adepti since she had. No reason to stay. So in the second part shenhe now was people that are there for her.
Me tooo! p.s. In the original Chinese version, it literally means 'There is an exquisite music but most people don't understand. However, there must be someone appreciate that.' It's really moved me😭(曲高未必人不识,自有知音和清辞。)
Supplementary knowledge: Yunjin's cutscene in the performance is entirely taken from Chinese opera. The following are the reasons why the singing voice I have learned is unique: 1. When ancient Peking opera first appeared, ancient China still only allowed men to perform plays. Therefore, female roles in dramas also require male actors to perform, so they will distinguish between male and female roles through makeup and sharp voices. 2. Ancient performances did not have microphones and speakers, so the actors used special pronunciation methods in order to allow the audience in the back row to hear them. These are kept as a tradition today. 3. After the 20th century, female Peking opera actors began to appear in China, and Yangyang is also a very young female Peking opera actor.
I think it's pretty inspired by Chinese opera but probably not taken entirely from it. I thought there'd be multiple characters on stage. And I don't think the modern background music are traditional. But I can understand why they would go with this choice or it would be very jarring for people to hear.
This isn't true. The high pitched singing draws its origins from Kunqu, which had women singing. Only allowing men to perform only lasted like a hundred years, which is nothing in terms of Chinese history.
Wow….this is honestly one of their best, if not the best, cutscenes. The fact that they remain rooted in their culture regardless of people’s opinion is amazing to see. I hope they continue to go in this direction.
Wow, your comment is full of rickroll bots Anyway, I'm sure they'll keep treating Liyue as their preferred region with the most thought out events and story. Meanwhile it's been over a year, Windblume might repeat and we still didn't get Ludi Harpastum
This will always be my favorite genshin song of all time. I grew up in a Chinese family and my grandma used to have a bunch of Chinese opera DVDs that she’d watch frequently. She passed away in September this year. Watching Chinese opera will always remind me of her, and I’m glad Genshin brought it to the eyes of so many people of new generation.
0:45 this scene made me really sad. She really did destroy the evil but it was not a choice that she wanted as a small child. She was scared and alone and yet brave. Props to the amazing video and narration.
The lyrics translated into “Two loving souls by death cruelly parted” in Chinese is 秋鸿折单复难双,of which straight translation is: “(If)The Swan geese in autumn become single,it will be difficult(for them) to become dual/a pair again.” 秋鸿(Swan goose in autumn)is a image which contains a feeling of parting, loneliness and desolate in Chinese traditional literature. Hope this comment will help u to approach the feeling of Chinese native speakers when listening to this sentence and know a little bit more of Chinese culture~ (My English is poor, but I tried my best~)
Actual chills, at first I wasn't sure what the Chinese Opera would be like in game, but I absolutely loved this. Both visuals and audio in this cutscene are beautiful.

Couldn’t help but cry... Such a beautifully strong song, voice and story. Thank you, Mihoyo, for sharing a piece of our culture in such an amazing way!
The English translation is sufficient but a lot of contexts are lost. For example the translation and nuance of this line : 朱丝缚绝烂柯樵 is based on a folklore. To put it simply, there's a lumberjack who went to collect wood. On the way home he encounters a duo of chess players. Intrigue by the match, he put down his axe and wood to observe the game, fully immersed in the most spectacular chess match he has ever seen. After the match ended, one of the chess player graciously remind him that it is late and he should go home. To the lumberjack's surprise, he found that his axe has rusted and the wood he collected rotted to dust. The lumberjack hurried back to his house only to find that decades or centuries had passed. It was only then he realised that the game of chess was played by two deities. In general, the translation conveys the idea of breaking the red silk which binds the past and allow time to flow unhindered. The lyrics are full of reference to other stories and literature works, I won't be surprised that it was written by Zhongli himself. =)
ah yes, i always encounter experiences like that. It felt like only moments ago, when in reality time has passed beyond my realization. The excitement of the beginning grips your attention that you don't even hear the ticking of the clock. It was only supposed to be a 20 minute break watching youtube and now it's 2am. WTF
When I was a child , my grandpa usually watches chinese opera on television on a chinese channel , I still remember how they sing , the tone , the specific action when they perform . But my grandpa has passed away several years ago , watching this make me feel touched and remember about him , the move , the tone , the way how she sings , it's just PERFECT . Yunjin’s performance of Shenhe’s story truly was a beautiful masterpiece that made me genuinely tear up. The Chinese opera singing really drove home the emotions of the story and I’m so happy that this cultural exchange was done. Props to Yunjin’s singer VA, she was amazing!
As someone who rarely ever cries like even at death this brought me to tears, the emotional the singer carries and the accompaniment are so beautiful, I can’t stop listening to this
It's simply becouse those people aren't familiar with it. It's in a completely diferent spectrum to what most western people are acostumed to hear, and it happens with a lot of singing stiles that deviate from the traditional european singing, like the gutural singing. But once you finaly gave yourself the oportunity to listen, the masters of the craft can show you just how beautifull an unknown music can be. People should gave themselfs the change to be surprised from time to time.
I feel something that definitely contributed to people not liking it as much at first is the lack of music. It's a lot more jarring to hear that way, but here it sounds damn beautiful!! I really wish they showcased her singing with music instead of just acapella, since it would've been how it was meant to be heard anyway, and people would've appreciated it more :(

THE SINGING PLUS THE STORY MADE ME CRY LIKE A FKING WATERFALL :'> In case you don't understand, here's a summary of Shenhe's childhood: When Shenhe was born on their family. Because of their exorcist family, Shenhe's father thought he could summon a Spirit that will help them bring back his Dead Wife. But it turns out, He just summoned the remains of an evil ancient god who takes sacrifice from taking children. When the village tried to offer other kids, the Monster pointed at Shenhe and said she bring Calamity to those around her and brings people extreme bad luck. The father thought sacrificing Shenhe might bring back his wife, then Shenhe was took to a cave with the monster and tried to consume her. After a few days, The father killed himself because his Wife never came back while also losing his Only daughter "Shenhe" he wrote a letter to her saying He was very sorry to what he has done and hoping Shenhe to forgive his father for what he did .... Then he hang himself to a tree close to their house, without him knowing Shenhe actually grew up and survived the sacrifice-
Sentences written in acient Chinese language are really like an rar files which including so many informations. Like the original Chinese lyrics "凡缘朦朦仙缘滔,天伦散去绛府邀" was written in only 14 characters but it can be translated directly (by poor translator like me) as "The fate of the mortal was hazy as the destiny of the immortal rose, the rule of the heaven (means happiness in families) was dissipated then the invitation of the adepti's abbey came." But "Mortal ties broken, with the adepti she went" works really well. There were so many good translations in this English version, I was so amazed to by the translation they made, it's actually good. Good job MHY!
“the crane returned to a home without luster” Chinese lyric:“鹤归不见新华表” the word “鹤归华表”was also a legend. it is said a person named Ding lingwei(丁令威),was a official. once, the place he governed experienced a severe famine.Ding wrote several times to the empire, but no reply. Finally, he made a decision of opening the granary and saving people. As a result ,he was sentenced to death.(opening the granary without the permition was a felony, because the cereals are extremely important to the military, without enough cereals the war couldn't continue or even there will be mutiny)Before the execution,he applied a last seen of his pet--a crane. At the moment the knife falls ,the crane opened it wings and carried Ding to mount Lingxu, where god lives.Thousands years after, Ding changed in to a crane too.(in chinese culture ,crane is the symbol of longevity,it also represents immortal or god)When he "fly" back to his hometown and landed on a ornamental column(“华表”), no one welcomed him or even recognized him,(he live so long that all his friend died)instead ,a child on the town use bow to shoot him......as a result ,the crane fly high and far away, saying that“有鸟有鸟丁令威,去家千年今始归。城郭如故人民非,何不学仙冢垒垒”the basic meaning of this poem is:I learn magic for a thousand years when I came back, though the village is here ,the people(who I familiar with)isn't. so why not continue study the magic ,seeing more and more tombs appears.(means more and more people died)(in my opinion, the last sentence do not means he hate people, instead , facing the death,he become still, just like nature gives birth and “death”to every creature ,it is neither evil nor kind,it is the “law”.that's kind of reflection of "simple materialism"in chinese culture.)Actually, the legend is a way of ordinary people to memorize a kind and brave official named Ding lingwei who save their lives. In chinese history, six words is most horrible:"岁大饥 人相食",which means the famine is so severe that people eat eachother.Statistics said that it happened 174 times in Chinese history...it is not weird that in some place people Consecrated someone who save them from famine as "god" for thousand years. That's“民以食为天”(Food is the most important thing for the people). This kind of story also encourage the officials later generations to take people's life much more serious than his own interest. By the way ,I'm Chinese, I type this paragraph instead of using google translater ,so my English expression may be not such accurate.
Algorithm brought u here for a reason. genshin is a beautiful game and does chinese culture elegantly ❤ if you’re curious, you should definitely play it. there’s more elegant things to come when you see things for yourself
It looks like Shenhe in that last part had been influenced by our Traveller here and has ditched her calamity queller and taken up the most powerful polearm, the beginners protector. can’t blame her. Traveller literally fought a god with dull blade
I love how Mihoyo has come to appreciate more the Traveler's contribution to history (well, that is, us). Previously, everything was mostly character-based and we mostly played with the self-insert shell, but now we can really see their feelings or our influence on the course of the plot.
although the translated English subtitles don't do the actual song lyrics justice, it's still able to convey the message to everyone, great job Mihoyo!
I mean I assume it would be difficult to convey even with an exact translation due to missing cultural references and analogies. I just think it's impressive that they managed to keep it rhyming while still conveying the story and not making it sound contrived.
Does anyone have the real translation then? I’ve been obsessed with this song for a while but Ik that this isn’t really the real lyrics so if anyone could link me the full version I’d appreciate v much :>
@@diagenerate233 It’s hard to translate because of the way that writings in classical Chinese, but there is Simplified Chinese lyrics:

I only came to Genshin Impact for the anemo emo boys (Xiao, Kazuha, etc.) As a result.. I've been playing for about 2 or 3 years. Damn, and this song in the video is.. So dear and cozy to me. Simply.. I remember the first time I entered the genshin impact. How I got to this song. Admiration was already flowing through my heart, and my eyes were focused on the small details of the plot and the images of the characters. And music has become a link for me and genshin impact.

I've heard that the official translation is rather abbreviated, so here is a translation of all the Chinese meanings of the songs (because there are so many traditional allusions used, they are simply translated by meaning)
In the autumn
A pair of loving swans have lost one of them forever.
The one who was left behind
He falls into endless pain and sorrow, and in this emotion he gradually loses his mind in a frenzy
So he offered his daughter as a sacrifice to the devil
Praying that the devil would bring his wife back again
This decision brought bad news to the world
If the maiden who was sacrificed had not decided to take up arms against her destiny
Everyone will die in the devil's greed.
Like the moon obscured by clouds
Her fate in human society has been blurred
So with the guidance of the immortals
To another path of destiny
From then on, she loses her family and relatives in human society
Becoming a disciple of the immortals
The immortal uses the red thread
to stop her doomed fate from going mad
(The red line: In Chinese tradition, it is often regarded as one of the materials for sealing. It is also a hint of the line of destiny between people)
And before she knew it, decades had passed
(Using a traditional Chinese story as an analogy: a woodcutter on his way home sees someone playing chess, he watches in fascination, and when the game is over he returns home to find that a hundred years have passed)
Like a swan leaving a trail on the snow
Though inconspicuous, though distant
But it still leaves traces on her heart
When she returned to her hometown, the young girl
She found that there was nothing left of her hometown
Her village is filled with cobwebs
The cloths used at funerals sway in the wind
Everything she remembered as vivid had decayed
Only ruins remain
Everything that once was
Dissipates like smoke
Yun Jin.
The story, it should have ended here
But today
I would like to add one more page to this story
A noble sentiment does not need to worry that no one knows it
You're bound to meet someone who understands you
You'll get the appreciation you deserve
The red tassels that adorn Polearms make a sound as the weapons are wielded with great speed
Swords also shine as fast as shooting stars (player)
(The battle between shenhe and the player is as beautiful as it is powerful)
Just use the weapon in your hand
To calm the fierce and turbid waves again(Osial's wife)
Yun Jin.
At that time
The crane flying in the sky wants to go home.
But her hometown no longer exists
She could only leave alone
Today
We are here together, enjoying the gathering now
Friendship connects our hearts
Enough to make even grown men cry...

There are different roles in Chinese Opera. Yunjin's role needs to use this voice to sing. This is not for every role but is usually the most memorable and representative voice. So that's why Mihoyo uses this one.
I’ve seen real Chinese operas before, and this is extremely accurate. Was absolutely stunned when I first heard it
This is a more "modern" genre of chinese opera as it uses the opera tone to sing - 京歌. It's a bit different from the traditional opera. For example, the 1:49 part may be a bit different from other part as this part is more of traditional opera. Nonetheless, this is still autentic Chinese opera.

I get feels from this game all the time and it surprises me lol

"Chinese opera is a dying art"
NOT ANYMORE IT ISN'T.

Hi! As a native Chinese speaker, I'd like to contribute my thoughts on the line "曲高未必人不识,自有知音和清词。" ("From the world she seems apart, but there are those who know her heart")
The English translation is correct, it's just that it misses out on some of the historical references and literary nuances in the original Chinese lyrics.
TLDR: Singing is used as a metaphor to show that Shenhe has found someone who can truly understand her :')
This is not to say the English translations are inaccurate!
真的有心了
I would like to know more!! Your culture is immaculate and very unique in my eyes
Great contribution of yours! Please continue enlightening us with your knowledge of the Chinese culture.
Thank you for this analysis! Even though I am Chinese, I am way more adept in English and have trouble with dialects or 'flowery language' so A LOT of idioms and the like get lost on me 😩
Luckily for me, I know all the myths and legends so I can use deduction and contextual clues to figure out the 'vibe' or underlying message 🤔
It's still nice to see an explanation though cuz it makes the conclusion so much clearer 😉

George obviously they’ve been submerged
I thought Liyue was so masterfully done and was worried Shenhe's part would be lackluster, but they made her story so beautifully tragic but awe-inspiring. Despite the treatment given to her by her fellow humans, and her inability to ever truly connect with the adepti world due to her humanity, she keeps at a border that she eventually breaks. Having a professional opera singer singing such a part was an amazing idea.
After "From the world she seems apart, but there are those who know her heart" I staryed crying bc it's so heartwhelming verse

Facts, it was so beautiful
I'm happy I'm not the only one crying, it's so beautifully made
Supplementary knowledge: Yunjin's cutscene in the performance is entirely taken from Chinese opera.
The following are the reasons why the singing voice I have learned is unique:
Love the effort mah friend
I think it's pretty inspired by Chinese opera but probably not taken entirely from it. I thought there'd be multiple characters on stage. And I don't think the modern background music are traditional. But I can understand why they would go with this choice or it would be very jarring for people to hear.
This isn't true. The high pitched singing draws its origins from Kunqu, which had women singing. Only allowing men to perform only lasted like a hundred years, which is nothing in terms of Chinese history.
Yes,就是这样

The lyrics translated into “Two loving souls by death cruelly parted” in Chinese is 秋鸿折单复难双,of which straight translation is:
“(If)The Swan geese in autumn become single,it will be difficult(for them) to become dual/a pair again.”

I feel like ppl might not have liked it bc there was no music, but her voice is so beautifull

YO THIS HURT- 😭
Shenhe has one of the saddest back stories
@@strawberrymilkshake3229 Their family literally died one by one :'>
To me he sound like he had hope shenhe would live hence why he made the letter.
Just started playing genshin almost a week ago, I’ve clocked around 60 hours so far and got to this cutscene. Brought me to literal tears oh my god
I just finished the quest and the opera actually made me cry

Same! It’s so beautiful ❤️
Good job MHY!
agreed! A word in chinese can have many meanings!
No wonder learning Chinese is so hard for me
Your analogy about the rar zip is really subtle
“the crane returned to a home without luster”
Chinese lyric:“鹤归不见新华表”
the word “鹤归华表”was also a legend. it is said a person named Ding lingwei(丁令威),was a official. once, the place he governed experienced a severe famine.Ding wrote several times to the empire, but no reply.
By the way ,I'm Chinese, I type this paragraph instead of using google translater ,so my English expression may be not such accurate.
woah the fact that you spent time typing this all out in english is commendable! thank you for sharing!
this is so cool and interesting, thank you for sharing
Thank you so much for sharing! I appreciate that you went out of your way to type in English just to let us know this cool fact!
鹤归不见昔华表,是‘’昔‘’啦...
谢谢🙏
The algorithm bought me here and I don’t even play Genshin. Listened to Chinese opera with my grandpa. This was beautiful and bought back memories.
Dull blade is a secret 6* weapon thats why
legend has it that if you believe in the power of the dull blade it'll become a 10 star weapon
@@_aparna_aparna_ believe in the dull blade that believes in you
Can't blame how crazy Traveler actually, he/she tried to challange entire Teyvat using 1 star weaponry
It's said in the opera that she recognize only the ones that see through her heart
I love how Mihoyo has come to appreciate more the Traveler's contribution to history (well, that is, us). Previously, everything was mostly character-based and we mostly played with the self-insert shell, but now we can really see their feelings or our influence on the course of the plot.

Lumine version is pretty similar except for how she holds the sword: ua-cam.com/video/LUdhNcJE9W4/v-deo.html
although the translated English subtitles don't do the actual song lyrics justice, it's still able to convey the message to everyone, great job Mihoyo!
Omg, imagine the Russian translation which was "loosely" based on English. English at least has some deeper meaning in it, Russian is just very plain and straightforward description
Oh that makes sense- I was like how on earth does both the CN AND EN rhyme?
how can something possibly be so beautiful that i literally start to tear up everytime i listen to it? this is absolutely phenomenal (can't believe it's been more than a year since this came out im gonna cry again)
The part when her singing and the drums kicked in, one of the best I've ever listened to. Outstanding work ❤️❤️
I love how they combined traditional Chinese opera with modern back ground music. Love it. Mihoyo never fails to make music
