  • Here is a very short video showing the electronic devices and their weights that I take when I go backpacking for an overnight, 1-2 days, 3-4 days, ..., many days away from a power source. Let me know what you think please!
Some more info on the cables and adapters:
    6.9 g USB-C male to USB-C male 6" Amazon Basics cable
3.7 g Anker USB-C male to USB-A female adapter with LED indicator
1.8 g ARKTEK Micro USB male to USB-C female adapter w/ 56K resistor
5.4 g Garmin watch to USB-A 2" cable. I made this by cutting and re-soldering (update: replaced with a lighter adapter USB-C to Garmin)
9.5 g AGOZ USB-C male to USB-A male 7" for the solar panel
2022 edit of items now used, but not shown in the video:
    3.1 g Garmin watch USB-C adapter
    16.0 g Eversame USB multimeter
The F21i has only a USB-C port and does NOT have a USB-A port. One must also take care so that the power banks do proper hand-shaking with the device being charged and do not use too much power (Voltage and Current) with the watch, headlamp, and InReach Mini which are all low-power devices. I make sure that the power bank blue LEDs are OFF before I plug in a low power device since hand-shaking appears to initiate when a power bank comes out of "hibernation."

I really liked this format, short, to the point, easily understandable, and respectful of our time. Great format and gear!

Thank you! Things have changed for 2024. Better adapters, better 6" cord, and instead of F21i the NL2150RX

@@jimpflugrath6220 I'm using the NL2150HPI with the charger and lantern adapters, I'm also using an extra 21700 flashlight that can use that battery, so I have extra battery if needed, although I'm more of a camping guy so weight isn't much of a concern for me. Thanks for the update, I might have to grab one for my ultralight backup bag.

Similar setup - think my USB C to C cable is shorter but thicker so about the same weight. For a long thru, I would add a USB A female to USB C male adaptor (1-2g) to allow a second charging option such as a TV USB output, or some of the free charging stations in a visitor centre. This can be a bit tricky as need to support the weight of whatever I am charging and to be honest only assisted in a couple of situations to date as a overnight is usually more than sufficient to charge everything. I only have the Nitecore 10k and would add a second for a long thru as tend to use my phone more than I should. The second Nitecore works much better for me than solar panel - too many walks are in forests or canyons.

Thanks for the comment, but did you mean USB-A male since the outlets in public places are all female, right? I agree about the 2nd NB10000 vs a solar panel as it would be very rare to be away from electricity for more than 2 weeks. I bring a little 16 g USB multitester (not shown) which allows gender changes for USB-A and USB-C cords and helps me in other ways, too. I leave the 3.7 g gray USB-C male to USB-C female adapter shown in the video at home now since the USB multitester can perform the same function if needed.

Hi hope you still see this, but the Amazon Basics 6" cable is no longer available.
Do you have any alternatives that are still good and weigh the same (or less)?

The shortest USB-C to USB-C cable is no cable, but just a male USB-C to male USB-C adapter. imgur.com/a/tqhdK0K
