Yes he did use braid and whatever else but the thing to take away I'd by using these tips Joe managed to cast an extra 25+ yards than before so it shows the tips works
Who uses 50lb braid shock leaders when fishing for carp . Who cares how far anyone can cast with a casting setup . Use 15lb line and a 3oz lead and a full rig and bait and then practice .
I'm fishing straight through mono , Shimano tx2 12ft 3.25tc straight through mono fox Exocet pro 15lb 0.33 no tapered leaders or anything . 3.5oz lead baited rig and can hit 34 wraps consistently and that's my limit . Occasionally hit 36 but again not consistently. As you say practice in a real life fishing situation not just a lead and braid .
This is a very helpful video. We have picked up some good ideas from it. I would like to say that the sea fishing guys say' the left arm is the one that should be the power pull', so I will look forwards to blending both ideas.
45 wraps!!!! 😂 good work Ed 👌🏻 For all the pointless comments this is a video about how to improve your casting technique and get further. Which he did, well done Joe. Yes he didn't have a baited rig or was using mono etc but that isn't the point of the video.
This is good video, how is the rod not buckling with 3 4 5 6oz lead or snap on casting? Most 10 to13ft rods I see have just 100-150g cast weight? when I go to large reservoirs I feel like bringing my beach caster when Im trying to cast with coarse rod with 1/4 to 1oz lead. People saying cast a few metres or you need to cast 150s+ yards to get to the deep. I can put my sea reel on my coarse rod with 40lb shock and 20lb main. Wont the fish see the thick lines. Im used to use the smallest hook and thinnest lines you can get away with. 6-10lb. line.
Braided mainline... mmmm Obviously makes you look good? Why not use straight mono or tapered and show what you can do as a nearly everyone else has to do???
GREAT work guys - thanks so much for everything you do really hoping to get carp culture to catch on here in the US. we have a great fishery in the Connecticut river come over some time I want to sell the gear over here
Joe, as a recent convert to baitcasting reels for lure fishing, I recently discovered line conditioner that bass anglers in the USA use to increase the castability of their lines. Do you know of any distance carp anglers who use line conditioner? Don't know if it works or if it's just a gimmick. Cheers.
These long distance casters made me think all people use braid to catch carp, I was about to change my .30 mono to braid lol. But tell me guys, would it be possible to change to a thin diameter braid as main line, and use a shock leader /mono of about 10 meters to give me that bit of slack and absorption... currently im using main 0.30mm mono to a leaderleadclip with 3oz, PVA bait and rig and im reaching only about 65yards... I think i can improve my technique alotbut still
No point a lot of the power of the cast is lost with mono because of the stretch in it, I would be looking at using a .30 to .32 mono with a 50lbs braided shock leader, a helicopter rig with the shortest hook link you can get away with and the smallest bait. Do away with any lead core as thats heavy and will slow the rig down faster.
I do a double uni. With the spod braid I do 5 turns on the knot, and 4 turns with the leader as this is enough for the knot to be strong but small enough to go through the rings really smooth
As It Is just keep your finger out of the way when you cast, just let it go and pull it straight back to grip the rod. Or I fully open my hand to feather it down
It's great if ur going into a casting contest, but you guys need to make it more realistic, as said below, use standard stuff, even better, more skill is needed to get a rig under overhanging trees or bushes, have you perfected your low trajectory side casting, now that would be a vid for people wishing to get under those tree branches and bushes. If you need so tips on that, give me a call...
I have to agree with everyone else in that using braid is completely unrepresentative as I don't know any fishery that allows braid mainlines. If you are into casting competitions then that is fine but not for fishing. It would also have been a bit more relevant if you had used your own gear. Maybe you should do a follow up video showing how much the new technique has actually worked for you?
Hi Tony, the reason for questioning the use of braid is the fact that almost no fisheries allow you to use it. Its characteristics are completely irrelevant if you cannot use it. If you are showing how to improve your casting when carp fishing it must be relevant. Using a line that you almost certainly cannot use for carp fishing makes this pointless. If this was a sea fishing video then it would make sense but as it is about carp fishing it completely misses the mark. Almost every angler would increase their casting range by swapping to braid as I know from sea fishing but this is about carp fishing so it should have been done with mono.
False. Best retrieve rate money can buy is 46inches per full rotation. Based on calculations you're pulling in 12 ft per rotation. There's no such thing, I've seen hundreds of reels and not one can do that.
Perhaps the whiniest comment section I've come across. The video is great.
Yes he did use braid and whatever else but the thing to take away I'd by using these tips Joe managed to cast an extra 25+ yards than before so it shows the tips works
Why not show you casting with a rig and bait and 12-15 mono ?
Exactly!!!!

Just don't forget the big carp waiting for hooks in your margins 😆
Good vid to help people this.

His voice says everything when his trying to cast further! “What a load of hassle, I’ve found a hard spot at 90yrds, why am I doing this?”
It's good for a third rod for casting single baits at showing fish at range
Do most top end reels have manual bail arm (doesn't click back over after casting) thanks
GREAT work guys - thanks so much for everything you do
really hoping to get carp culture to catch on here in the US. we have a great fishery in the Connecticut river come over some time I want to sell the gear over here
Nice video,to everyone who said, where's the bait?,remember a lot of fishos are using the sliding bait rigs.
All well and good with a nice flat mown field behiñd you not a single swim I fish on in spain like that 😂

Have to agree with the other comments re using mono you should have tried your own reels to at least give some realistic comparison.
Braided line. Shock leader. 4.5oz lead. No baited rig on the end. That video is like a broken pencil . . . Pointless.
What's was your casting weight

Great should see what surf casters do
I don't know I like where you can use braid as your mainline
whats best knot for braid leader to braid mainline? (for spod/marker)
Try a double uni knot but with 10 wraps per side , it works for me .
albright knot mate.
I do a double uni. With the spod braid I do 5 turns on the knot, and 4 turns with the leader as this is enough for the knot to be strong but small enough to go through the rings really smooth
That rod just returned so quickly to its normal position ,so nice , must be an expensive one .
You do not need expensive rods to get a long way, the rods I use for big pit fishing are £150 a rod.
Cant use braid hardly anywhere!!!! Pointless test
How many lb is that rod?
Hi. When I cast my feeder, the line always twangs my trigger finger. It sounds and feels bad. How do I stop this happening? Thanks.
As It Is just keep your finger out of the way when you cast, just let it go and pull it straight back to grip the rod. Or I fully open my hand to feather it down
Stick to float fishing
Lower
your energy
down to the soles,
When you’re ready, raise it up and cast out.
Ponder this!
You’re still stand still.
I’m an old man

Nothing wrong with using braid but 20lb whiplash is .10 which is not safe to fish with.

just get mono if u want to cast @ distances simple
Aswell as all the other comments your on the back of the wind
Pva bag + bait then lets see if you can hit 37 wraps :]
What lb braided line are you guys casting with?
20lb mainline with 50lb leader
What test curve.
Nice to see you not in your jeans joe lol
So basically, with mono, hooklink, bait and a lead free leader, you're gonna be hitting 110 max. Pretty average considering the gear.
Depends what mono hes using, bait and rig tubbing/safe zone leader takes around 10% off.
Not a real test ! Need a baited rig and 15lb line ! Not super fine braid not a fishing situation braid isn’t Aloud most places
Bit pointless really. Why not do with the same rod length, line and bait as the majority of anglers.
False. Best retrieve rate money can buy is 46inches per full rotation. Based on calculations you're pulling in 12 ft per rotation. There's no such thing, I've seen hundreds of reels and not one can do that.
Not saying 150 yards is impossible im saying your calculation based on rotation is wrong.
Ok never mind
Sorry who casts without a rig 🙈
No bait on ? Your never going to catch a bare lead are you
So many comments about braid on this video it is exectly what it says casting 150yds
Whats the obsession with casting so far
Absolute pointless doing a casting video using braid.
i agree, turned off as soon as i got to that...
Cut your hair lad, it will increase your casting distance. Fish are less than 10 yards from the bank anyway. 🙄
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Unless with a baited rig, just another utterly pointless video. Let's not forget the margins eh...lake looks banging for that.
Its all a selling show. Boring
