Having used most of these myself i agree with alot of what youve said:
The dot spod flies super straight but is abit fiddly
The smaller spider spod is a pain in the butt, the larger one is dogs bollocks
I found the fox one loads and casts well but allways dives underwater when retrieving
The spomb is great but does require i higher casting technique
Ive found the best thing to do is so own a large spider and a midi/mini spomb to cover all circumstances

Interesting test, but I'd suspect different results if using hemp and particle mixes. The korda spods are designed to deliver particle mixes, and were never designed for boilie.
Traditional spods got dismissed, but still have their place. With practice, you can land them on their sides with almost no noise (in comparison to a spomb) and the slow emptying actually gives a slightly more even spread of bait, much different to the tight clumps a spomb tends to deliver.
Personally, I love the dot spod, it can be landed in a little more subtly, and still open and you can load and close it one handed.
I have a large spomb for heavy baiting, and did have a fix spomb, which I dumped after one effort - constant issues with it opening, a fiddle to load and retrieved like a brick.

With a spod you can land it a lot quieter some spombs sounds like you've just lobbed a washing machine out🤣

These youngsters haven't had too use spods but us oldens had to plug the back with ground bait or dip the spod when fishing with boilies to fill it with water it helped to keep the boilies in alot better even though they had holes if you were quick it helped, ..... and it was all fields back then not like now lol😊😅

I bought a wolf and looking at it, was convinced it wouldn’t work. In practice, it’s excellent! 👌

I mainly use the original spomb but use spods in certain circumstances but you do have to plug the end, used to make our own many moons ago before you young whippersnappers were even born🤪. The original spombs used to sink, I told them about it and they sent me a set of three, which was good of them (still use them)
then they brought out the floats. The Fox ones were shit, the spring use to break, I remember there were a lot of anglers having the same problem, not got a clue if they've fixed the problem. The Dot spod is ok. Not tried the Wolf but will give them a try

In my experience the fox spomb opened great but on both of mine the inner clip broke and it wouldn’t close anymore, the wolf one is brilliant but with particles and pellet it wouldn’t open unless there was liquid in it

I've had the same experience. Thought the Fox Impact loaded and cast really well, but I've not had one last more than a session with the clip snapping on the cast. Pity as otherwise I thought was better than the spomb

@@benjo8882 I had 2 go, complained to the shop I bought them from, got given replacements and the same happened with those, so gave up with them at that point. I use Spombs mainly, I do have the Wolf but not used much to compare

    The "rockets" you plug with
groundbait/method mix to stop any bait comeing out

The waters I fish are quite weedy and I found the standard Wolf to be a disaster in those conditions, the shape of the fins mean they collect and hold on to any floating weed which makes retrieval heavy and slow.
I don't thinks there is one perfect spod for all conditions but for me the Dot Spod comes close. It fly's straight, opens 99.9% of the time provided you don't over fill it (the bait inside must be able to move) and they skip across the water well coming back...

I know I’m a bit late, but I’ve been trying to find a good Spod or Spom that’ll “consistently” deliver sweet corn, boilies, pellet and/or pack bait at a relatively short distance (from 20-75 yards). I typically fish small venues in the US.
I also have very little experience using either delivery method (snapped off during my first attempt🙄😖).

    In my experience:
Korda spods - better than nothing but you will end up wearing a lot of your bait.
Nash dot spomb - Most reliable release but lowest capacity
Fox Impact Spod - Easy to load and relatively reliable release but retrieves like a duck
Spomb - Can be finicky to load and deploy but workable
    X-Spod - Not tried
They all cast about the same in my experience but I can't comment on more extreme ranges

I used fox, spomb and dot spod. Best out of three is Dot Spod. It opens anytime it touches water. Spomb needs to hit eater with nose. Flies straight and is floating better than spomb.. dot spod is made in Serbia by Carp System. Nash bought their patent..

To 100yd with clip- dot spod - it is better quality then it seems at first, I have my 2 years without problems
To 150yd with clip- wolf performance
    Without clip - spomb

If you dunk the tip on your rod when retrieving with the fox spod it glides through the surface and comes back no issues.

  • @steabs9659
    @steabs9659 7 місяців тому

The wolf one only opens of you land it on its side. The shape of all spombs naturally mean they are nose heavy and will tip that way on impact. Having to land something on its side would just be a nightmare especially in the dark

Totally agree on the smaller Wolf x-Spod competition. Should be a product recall, a complete waste of money. Big fan of the larger one, but the retrieve on the smaller one is atrocious. Different design on the fins means the line constantly gets tangled resulting in it diving on the retrieve + spending ages untangling it. The worst one out there by far, unusable. A serious design flaw. Feel like I’ve been ripped off and puts me off buying the bigger one again. Reverted back to the Spomb midi, best one out there for distance work

Original spomb.....casts & retrieves well, doesn't always open.
Fox....casts & opens ok, retrieves rubbish.
Nash dot..opens OK, loads, casts & retrieves rubbish.
Spider.....casts & retrieves OK, opens poorly unless you crash it into the water.
All got there faults, please make 1 that does everything.
