Great content! Any chance you have a good video reference on the Xi5 foot/lower unit rebuild or specifically reassembly ? Mine was making the screeching sounds, pulled the front plate to view brushes, magnets, and blow out old dried glue. Now the armature magnetic resistance is fighting me to get the front and back caps on. I bought a new foot and figured I would rebuild this one for the next time I need a spare. Been searching for days and cannot find a good reference.
Jeremy thanks for the comments. I do wish I could help. The most I’ve done is repaint the lower unit and check the seals to make sure I didn’t have any water seepage. If you end up with a solution please share I would love to see that.
I learned that a bad remote will make you definitely think something is wrong with your trolling motor. Always have at least two remotes in case something is not working properly. A little corrosion on the plug and even the 50amp breaker will prevent the trolling motor from working. Took my motor to the shop twice and both times it turned out to be something else.
You are most correct my friend, those remotes are super expensive too, Hindsight is always 2020. My takeaway was that I essentially upgraded and updated the internal electronics and that was by happenstance and troubleshooting. thanks for the comment and tight lines!
Have the same xi5 was using it and it worked fine, had it on spotlock was fishing looked up and I was almost in the rocks. I had all power lights on but the motor would not kick on, the unit would turn left and right but the motor itself would not turn back on.? Any help with the problem would help. Thanks
JD thanks for question, I wish I had all the answers. You will have to troubleshoot your system, I always start with power, make sure your batteries are fully charged, and the cables connecting to the trolling motor are providing adequate voltage, if the trolling motor isn't receiving adequate power than not all of your systems may work. definitely try the manufacturers website and see if there have been any issues related to the problem, third check to see if the integrity of housing for your trolling motor has been compromised. i.e. cracked, or a seal broken this will most certainly cause issues especially if you fish in saltwater, and than of course there is your remote. check and see if the batteries may need to be changed or if there is corrosion. good luck
Great job diving into it captain. Wondering if any issues with the GPS have occurred? I tore out the wires at the lower GPS puck and now putting the new GPS system on an old base thinking I may get the problems seen by others with tangling. Do you still have old GPS that you replaced? I may need that to get mine flying again.
Appreciate the comment and question my friend, unfortunately I don’t have the old GPS puck, the wires were seriously corroded and I had put so many bandaids over the 5 years I had the trolling motor. I haven’t had any issues with the GPS, it locks pretty quickly. I do hope you get back on the water soon. Tight lines!
Hey mate just a quick question in the video it looks like when you take the power wires off looking at the video the power wire from the battery at the back is screwed down with the white wire and then when you put the new board in, the battery wire is screwed down with the red wire and the white is screwed down where the red first come from. I have just done mine and having a problem of power is on no matter if the motor is up or down. Thanks
Thanks for the reply my friend, I am reviewing the video, I would love to address your question is it possible for you to tell me where in the video you are referring to, maybe a couple of timestamps. What I can say is that the new components that I replaced may have changed the colors of the wires which may be the issue. I wish I could give you some greater context and I'm interested to figure out what the issue is with your trolling motor, send me the time stamps and we can figure it out from there.
If you have a look at about 16.42 you can see where you disconnectthe wires and the about 33 mintye mark on you can see where the white and red change sides.
you're "trolling" me.. get it? "trolling" okay so here you go take some notes: I covered troubleshooting, symptoms and background, I highlighted the parts to be repaired and stayed on topic. Unlike you, I walked through the process from beginning to end, my discussion was germane and relevant from start to finish. your silly comments are laughable. reply all you want, this is fun and I absolutely love the watch time on my videos, sooo there's that, don't forget to like, subscribe and of course comment.
I have a Xi5 trolling motor and it has never worked since I bought the boat used from a guy who didnt know Jack about boats, where do I start to try and get the trolling motor to work? What parts should I buy to try and get it running? Nice video by the way man
Oh my!! Well hard to say where to start but a good place is to make sure it has power. Check the connections to the batteries, fuses, cable. Pretty simple to do unplug it And check it with a multimeter. I guess the good thing is that you can replace virtually all the components and with prices and scarcity it may very well be ur best bet. First start with power to the unit itself good luck and send us an update!
Thank you

I have a xi3 same issue. How did you troubleshoot the remote?
I purchased a new one.

You talked till 8:47 before any repairs started... What's the appropriate talk/work time ratio usually?

Well, you do need the time so.. You're welcome. Your comment was stupid, it seems to be a theme so I'll let you keep running with it.
