    Watching from Cromarty Scotland. I think more people should do basic maintenance on their motors. Clean down after every trip, check for damage,regularly oil.

    How did you end up getting the center housing separated from skeg? Nice video!

    Wish you had made a video of the reassembly after clean up. Would also love to see how you got the mid section out of the front of it.

    very good info, never knew how to replace brushes before but you explained it well Thanks !! i have a i pilot minnkota with remote and my question is , my propeller turns but it will not turn left or right , can a low battery do that or is it something more serious going on with the head?

      To be honest I have not been fortunate enough to use one of those, or especially work on one! I would love to get the opportunity to see how one of those minnkota units tick! Best advice I could give is to test it with a different GOOD battery obviously. If that doesn't solve your problem then it could be time to service your unit and oil her up!

      Check the connections at the top of the motor under the cover

    What was your procedure for cleaning out all of the gunk inside?

    • @MrFigureitout
      @MrFigureitout  7 місяців тому

      A good wire brusk and dawn dish soap

    I’ve got an old Sears 575.59370 trolling motor that I inherited from my dad. I’ve just discovered that it’s had water inside for who knows how long. It looks very similar to the one in this video.
    Is there any way to remove the other end of the motor housing? There’s lots of gunk and crud down in there that needs to be cleaned out, and I’d like to put some grease in there to help seal and protect everything, in case it leaks again. I’m also thinking that it might be easier to deal with the brushes if I could get to them from that end.
    Thanks!!

      Must be pressed or hammered off carefully

    I have a motor guide Pro motor and the arrows pointing were supposed to be gone. We’re going the opposite direction even though I change it back up. What could it be ?

    • @MrFigureitout
      @MrFigureitout  2 місяці тому

      Have you possibly crossed the positive and negative terminals for the motor? Can you explain what is going on a little more?

    • @MrFigureitout
      @MrFigureitout  2 місяці тому

      The motor will run backwards if you hook up the motor backwards

    • @MrFigureitout
      @MrFigureitout  2 місяці тому

      Or are you talking about the arrows for steering direction? If they are backwards then has someone disassembled the motor?

    • @MrFigureitout
      @MrFigureitout  2 місяці тому

      Either the motor wires are crossed or someone has disassembled the motor and possibly put the foot back on backwards

    I can't take out ARMATURE. I think bearing has rust with BRUSH PLATE W/HOLDER. Do you have any idea?

      Lock for a pin on the shaft somewhere or some kind of retainer ring

    My trolling motor is only two years old…I can get the unit to turn left and right but I can’t get the prop to turn…any ideas? I’ve only used it about a dozen times

    • @MrFigureitout
      @MrFigureitout  Рік тому

      Did you try to manually turn the prop to see if it is locked up?

    my magnets were busted up jb welded 5 back into 2 lets hope it works lol

    • @MrFigureitout
      @MrFigureitout  Рік тому +1

      Did that work? Usually when a magnet breaks its Poles are changed and therefore the magnets will repel after that. I'm curious to know if this worked or not

    • @89pockets
      @89pockets Рік тому +1

      @Mr. Figure it out its working for now but its hard to tell what the edges were doing with a relatively small surface area compared to the flat to the metal but the faces dont reverse polarity so realy itd only be puting extra strain on the glue between the pices but the atraction between the flat and housing was pretty well enough to keep em in place to begin with so idk how its gona hold up but for the time being its working

      and how long did it take to get the inside into this state ?
      is there any idea how often the shaft should be checked ?

    • @MrFigureitout
      @MrFigureitout  2 роки тому

      I would check it after a year or so. This one was very old. Maybe 6-10 years. Newer trolling motors are pretty much built the same though so eventually they will most likely end up in the same condition. If you start to feel like your motor has lost some power or your good battery is draining quickly, those are good signs to check your stator and bearings.
