After watching this a few times, I'm genuinely wondering if Guy was having a panic attack. He looks like he's trying to keep it together, couldn't explain his own movie and at one point asked David for help. I think he was really nervous and the only thing he could think to do was act cool.
He's irritated. Probably didnt sign up to be guest hosted. They schedule months in advance.
He was definitely nervous. At first it seemed like he was being rude but you can tell by his body language/ the way he spoke, that he was nervous. David was perfect keeping it together -so funny and quick!

do you know the word "interview"? when you "interview" someone you ask them questions. you dont talk about stories about movies you were in 1995.
it would be the same thing if you were applying for a job and the interviewer never asked you one question and just talked about their life. davids job is to get him talking and he never put one ? at the end of his sentence so he could start talkin
David isn't a talk show host. Guy got out there and clammed up.

Jimmy is not going to put on someone better than him but David didn't even try. the staff already did everything and all he had to do is read some questions from the blue cards they already had set up for him. This reminds me of when clint eastwood also went off the script and started talking to a chair. The staff knows what works so just read the questions

David's way of speaking is comforting and subtle.
I love how David carried the conversation along. Ritchie acted like he not only had a stick up his butt, he had the whole damn forest. He's there to promote his movie and David carried him. Spade is a pro and hilarious, I adore him.
I get the impression that Guy does not like David Spade. He did a solid hour and 45 on Joe Rogan's podcast yesterday and he was much more talkative.

yeah and also Spade said later he hadn’t even seen King Arthur so he couldn’t ask specific questions about it and clearly Ritchie wasn’t going to help him. Oh well, that story about going to England with Farley was awesome and I’m still a huge fan of both of Spade & Ritchie.
I think he was pretty nervous in front of the audience. When he was talking he would barely look at the audience.

david has been doing talk shows for 25 years and he knows how they work. he acted too cool to be there, would not engage his guest by sitting as far back in the chair as possible and sounded like a moron for bringing up a movie he did 17 years ago but cant remember one of the actors in it. what about the sherlock holmes movies he did that are not decades old?

Guy already did a 30 minute pre-interview before the show and the person who is doing the pre interviewing tells him which questions he will be asked so he will be prepared and wont have to think about his answers. david screwed up and didnt look at the question he was REQUIRED to ask and tried to do improv and in confused guy.
it would be the same if you were applying for a job and you prepared for the interviews you know you will asked and the interviewer looks into your facebook account account and asked you questions about things you did in high school. you would have the same reaction

Then David says "well you're British and I am American".
However he fixed it by saying and British dress better than Americans, and also this is, as good as it gets. However, I think he was still mad. There was even a point in the interview where he asks him to tell us about your movie? Witch at that point he should be really selling it, to at least get the viewers at home to seem instrested into ultimately, pay and see the movie. However he just answers with a oooooooo you know Knights and stuff like he doesn't even care. Almost like he wanted to blow the interview.
Someone theorized that Guy holds it against David that David voted for Trump, since Guy threw out "Trump" twice in this shoddy interview.

David Spade is awesome, he's so Snarky and with that sharp wit makes anything work; even when there's nothing to work with vis-à-vis Guy Ritchie. But in Ritchie's defense, I don't think he's very comfortable doing Interviews, especially in front of an audience.

I think i figured out why it was awkward. When David said "you're from england, aren't they fancy over there?" Guy took it as an insult because he thought he was calling him pretentious (which he wasn't, americans calling Brits fancy is a compliment). This is why Guy responded with his "tasteful" jab, which he hoped would be seen as a playful comeback, but it was seen as an insult out of the blue.

At first I thought David’s team didn’t do enough research to engage Guy and ask him Q’s at the beginning of the interview, but when he asked him about his movie there was nothing. Like, did you make an Arthur movie or not? I’m not even sure he knows the basic tale from that. Brutal. And when David so obviously acknowledged he was floundering the guy could’ve thrown a random anecdote out there, maybe he had zero experience doing press
Yeah I think Guy is just nervous if you watch his one on one interviews he is much more relaxed and talkative...he seems to completely turn away from the audience in his chair
Ritchie was put off by the small talk. Spade should have read the situation and asked more about Ritchie’s work. He wasn’t being rude, he was nervous and confounded by Spade’s approach.

I'm not a huge Ritchie fan, but I think the reason this interview is so awkward is Spade spends the entire first couple of minutes not really asking any questions and talking about himself.
I always used to think Spade was an ass after seeing him in interviews, but after watching him guest host my opinion has totally changed. He's totally chill and laid back. You think he'd be nervous AF!
