His Sherlok Holmes movies just blew me away. His style of direction we'll suited the movies & I'm still waiting for the third one. That's a genre too that He's really quite good.
I was 9 when I watched it the first time and it actually got me into the classic Sherlock Holmes books even though they are a bit different. To this day I love both of the Sherlock Holmes movies, there's nothing I don't like about them. The dialogues, and overall atmosphere is so unique compared to normal thrillers, Hans Zimmer music is a cherry on top

The Gentlemen is tremendous and easily one of my favorite movies to watch at any time. I'd agree he's at his best when it comes to the gangster films but I thought The Covenant was certainly worth watching too.
Gentlemen is nifty, but it's still far from Snatch or Two Barrels, since it has moments where it wants to be taken more seriously, similar to Rock'n'rolla, his stories definitely work better as that one story a guy at a pub told me, rather than something more "serious", or perhaps I just found Wrath of Man way too meandering and boring...

Guy Ritchie weren't alone. Matthew Vaughn were his second half. When Matthew went solo, it affected the next Ritchie movies. Jerry Bruckheimer became a nobody when Don Simpson died, because Simpson were the main force behind that team and not Jerry. There is often a duo behind these successes.
Snatch, Lock Stock and Rock N Rolla are all legendary flicks in my opinion, so sharp, quick and witty. But Sherlock Holmes and King Arthur really weren't that bad either. And Aladdin was rather inoffensive and a serviceable remake. Man from Uncle and Revolver both suffered from convoluted plotlines, which were borderline nonsensica and extremely difficult to follow. But he really excels in the hard nosed crime genre, as evidenced by his return to form with The Gentlemen.
I feel like when it comes it his gangster films he knows the world and how to tell different stories in it, but he shouldn't be stuck doing one type of film as when he tries something else it might not work but there is valve in his film, hence why Man from Uncle is such a cool 60s film.
I am a fan. I love Lock Stock, Snatch, and the Gentleman. I wasn’t even aware of Swept Away or that he was responsible for Aladdin . I’ve only seen the live action Jungle Book and Mulan, as a fan of both originals. I will never watch a Disney live action adaptation again. Other than that, I will always give Guy Ritchie a chance.
I really liked one of his last movies, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, and Guy Ritchie's The Covenant was pretty good… so he should stick with movies about cool people doing cool things
Just watched Operation Fortune, great film, fast paced, good script, amusing one liners, felt like he was pointing out he was up for doing Bond which would be cool.
Snatch, lock stock, the gentlemen, rock n rolla, sherlock holmes...I love these films so much. They really cemented Guy Ritchie as one of my favourites. Then I watched wrath of man ... the covenant... and they're alright movies, no doubt about it, but they severely lack any of the iconic characters, smart dialogue, amazing pace... He really has a knack for those kinda of movies, but the last ones truly feel like any other action movie
while Snatch and Lock/stock are undeniably classics, I still enjoyed all the newer movies of his i've seen, The Covenant really struck a cord with me, those 2 characters carried the movie so hard with that deep brotherly bond I can't recall seeing much of being portrayed anywhere else. Revolver was mindblowing for me when I watched it years ago, however once you get the twist it's not as interesting on a rewatch I think, but man that first viewing left an impression.
I think if any director can make a Death Note adaptation work, that certainly is Guy Ritchie, it has a lot of the elements that made his movie glorious, dialogue, multiple interactions between characters and side plots with bits of action.
I’m a big guy Richie fan, man from uncle is great, the gentlemen is fantastic and one that was left out was the British longest yard The Mean Machine is one of my favorites from him too
guy ritchie should make whatever films he wants, in the same way you should make whatever videos you want. also ebert's take is funny, wonder if he would've said the same thing to Robert Rodriguez about el mariachi, desperado + the desperado trilogy
Honestly, the only Ritchie films I've ever really watched were Snatch and the Sherlock movies. I LOVE the RDJ Sherlock and wish they'd done more, and Snatch is an absolute staple. I honestly hadn't even heard of half of his other films, including the bombs.
Wrath of Man was a pleasant surprise, went in expecting a typical Guy Ritchie film but was instead a very serious crime/revenge flick. Really enjoyed Covenant, Man from UNCLE and Aladdin was the only Disney remake I liked. Give this guy anything. No pun intended.
59% - didn't fair well with critics 67% - warmly embraced 74% - critics were mixed 60% - reviews mixed 69% - ignored by audiences Man I don't know wtf are you trying to say
The covenant was pretty great, my only criticism is that it was so outside of his wheelhouse that I think he played it safe for some of it when I think he was on the right track and should have doubled down. But overall enjoyable and well made, the performances were great too
I don’t care what anyone else thinks but I absolutely love Guy Ritchie’s “The Covenant”. It’s one of, if not thee best, war movie I have ever seen and I’ve seen quite a few in my lifetime. Excellent movie! Peace & Love to You All!! ✌🏻❤️ Jesus Saves✝️
I think if Ritchie is going to stick to gangster movies, he should make them far from each other. He should make one every 5-7 years with an odd movie in-between a few times. This will ensure the audience does not have a Guy Ritchie fatigue. Just a suggestion though.
I agree he does is best work around the genre of Lock, stock and Snatch, but man honestly i really loved The Covenant. Such a cool movie and beautifully directed in my opinion
C'mon his Sherlock Holmes movies are pretty great, & as far as I know most people can agree on this, but I definitely can't deny the more grounded British gangster films are truly where he excels. Like how he rotates between trying new stuff & doing what he does best every now & then these days, and for the most part I still look forward to what he has in store.
The Ritchie movies I enjoyed most were Arthur, Man from U.N.C.L.E. and the Sherlock Holmes movies. :p I've watched his gangster flicks but wasn't entertained as much.
I’ll forgive a few duds if it still means we get good movies in a variety of genres. I liked The Man from U.N.C.L.E and I’ve seen the Sherlock Holmes movies a bunch of times.
I don't think Guy Ritchie should stick to gangster movies, but I do think the moment he made it big and started working with big budgets he lost something that made his first two movies great.
There is no reason for Ritchie to just stick to one genre. He must and he should experiment with multiple genres to evolve as a filmmaker. What he needs to do is to pick up good stories and scripts from multiple genres and then improvise creatively.
I'd rather have a director try different genres rather than being stuck in the same one. Say what you want but his live action Aladdin remake is well regarded among audiences. His King Arthur is found to be underrated and highly entertaining. His latest film 'The Covenant' is one of his highest acclaimed films. The point being no director should stay in the same field. With just those 3 results he should be able to tackle whatever genre he wants.
The Gentleman was easily one of my favorite theater experiences of that year. Such a good return to form film.

while Snatch and Lock/stock are undeniably classics, I still enjoyed all the newer movies of his i've seen, The Covenant really struck a cord with me, those 2 characters carried the movie so hard with that deep brotherly bond I can't recall seeing much of being portrayed anywhere else.
I think David Fincher would work better
i have more faith in Guy Ritchie and his information delivery like in Sherlock Holmes which was done without much yapping but showing
Aside from a few simplistic takes on Ritchie’s career & filmography, good video
The Covenant was beyond excellent definitely one the highlights of this year...
I really liked Sherlock Holmes and UNCLE. Don't trust critics.
Gawd, thank you for posting this, brother. How do you go from British gangster legends to a damn Madonna film?!!!!!
He was dating her at the time, he also directed a couple of music videos for her
i love both Sherlock Holmes movies. imo that's the only two films that perfectly captivate the Sherlock Holmes book magic to live action medium.
I want a guy Ritchie based GTA story set in London
Wrath of Man was a pleasant surprise, went in expecting a typical Guy Ritchie film but was instead a very serious crime/revenge flick. Really enjoyed Covenant, Man from UNCLE and Aladdin was the only Disney remake I liked. Give this guy anything. No pun intended.
5:00 'Swept Away' was a success at the box-office. It made back more money than it's budget.
Man, I love Legend of the Sword. It's one of my comfort movies and among my favorite movies
Gotta disagree. His Sherlock Holmes movies are my favorite work by Ritchie. You're right about Aladdin and King Arthur, though.
agree, Sherlock Holmes were excellent too.
Mate, you can't be a "box office success" and a "cult classic"
I remember this hot mess. Still waiting for Rockanrolla 2.
Its hard not to like Man from UNCLE. Alicia Vikander in 60's style is a sight to behold.
hoping for Sherlock 3!! Love those movies!!
Snatch is top 5 favorite movies, I love guy Ritchie movies and even I completely forgot he directed Aladdin loll
Nothing wrong with having a genre that your particularly good at and known for. Didn't do Sergio Leone any harm.
59% - didn't fair well with critics
67% - warmly embraced
74% - critics were mixed
60% - reviews mixed
69% - ignored by audiences
Man I don't know wtf are you trying to say
Fortune was a ton of fun: sorry to hear it was pulled, I was hoping for the sequels to materialize :(
The man from Uncle and King Arthur are so underrated. But ya, the gentleman, and snatch are awesome
Never direct a movie just so your wife can star in it. Just ask Renny Harlin how that worked out with Cutthroat Island.
The covenant was pretty great, my only criticism is that it was so outside of his wheelhouse that I think he played it safe for some of it when I think he was on the right track and should have doubled down. But overall enjoyable and well made, the performances were great too
I love the Sherlock movies. I have been waiting for years for a third. They are so cool and fun.
I don’t care what anyone else thinks but I absolutely love Guy Ritchie’s “The Covenant”. It’s one of, if not thee best, war movie I have ever seen and I’ve seen quite a few in my lifetime.
Excellent movie!
Peace & Love to You All!! ✌🏻❤️
Jesus Saves✝️
Nah...The Covenant was great, nice change of pace for Ritchie
Yeah it was pretty good. Not entirely accurate but it was a great story and character development
The Convenant was an amazing movie. I've watched parts of it 4 times it's such an easy and exciting watch
Revolver is so underrated i could watch it 100 times and still not get bored
The Covenant and Wrath of Man were pretty solid. Man from UNCLE needs a sequel, too.
When I was a teen I really liked swept away lol
Probably not so much as an adult now if I watched it.
loved his Sherlock Holmes. can't wait for a third film
i loved UNCLE.. story, action, chemestry between actors.. saw it twice.
The Man from UNCLE is exceptional.
Maan, I absolutely LOVE King Arthur. And yes, it's a 100% gangster movie! So bad we won't see any more.
I just want to say I was skeptical about The Covenant but that was a good ass movie!
His Revolver Is such a underrated GEM.
The Ritchie movies I enjoyed most were Arthur, Man from U.N.C.L.E. and the Sherlock Holmes movies. :p I've watched his gangster flicks but wasn't entertained as much.
Revolver made me want to get a Psychology Degree…. So there’s that….
still waiting for RockNRolla 2. Or Snatch 2: Still Hating Pikeys.
Thank you for this video, I was starting to feel like I was surrounded by mindless consuming zombies
The covenant was the best movie of the year
No, I think he needs to stick to England in modern times. He understands English culture really well and that's where he does well
I loved King Arthur and UNCLE 😂
There is no reason for Ritchie to just stick to one genre. He must and he should experiment with multiple genres to evolve as a filmmaker. What he needs to do is to pick up good stories and scripts from multiple genres and then improvise creatively.
There is a short story called “Bine In The Throat” written by Anthony Bourdain that Guy Richie would be perfect to produce/direct
