In this video I test Racingline's demo S3 saloon and see if it can offer the thrills, swagger and personality the standard car sorely lacks;
Performance stats - Audi S3 Saloon (8Y generation) - using BHP not PS as the Racingline dyno is configured to measure BHP;
Stock - 324 bhp / 400 nm
Stock with R600 intake - 334 bhp / 427 nm
PCM+ tuning box (no R600) - 353 bhp / 457 nm
PCM+ tuning box & R600 - 357 bhp / 464 nm
PCM+ tuning box & R600 & inlet - 365 bhp (actually 370 PS) / 466 nm
Cars I am looking to buy (must be unmodified (the irony hasn't escaped me but modify your car by all means, just put it back to standard for sale) and FSH));

If an intercooler was added with PCM, Racingline R600, turbo inlet pipe and turbo inlet hose. What do you think the power gains would be over the 365bhp /466nm tq? Regarding the PCM + tuning. Was that just the pcm box? Or the PCM + stage 1 tune?
can I use VWR17G8R600. says it fits 8Y A3 and S3 isnt listed. i bought this for my 2022

Traction is the issue with GTIs but that AWD chassis (even just Haldex, not new Magna system for 8R/8Y RS3) is just begging for more power and torque to dispense.

The smile on your face says it all ! Tuning a car to OEM + is the way to go ..
If traction wasn't an issue I'd be down there like a shot with my CS when it hits 3 years old for that tuning box. If you have an S3 or R you've be crazy not too, tiny bit of spin in the launch on greasy roads, that is all I experienced driving it, tied down 100% otherwise. What I really want though is a TCU flash to get manual shifting in manual mode i.e. no kickdown. Would make the car a lot more enjoyable.

I have one and they are nearly 330bhp from stock more than stated same as mk8 golf r more power than the V ,as new mk8 golf r /s3/rs3 have few upgrades and the new bigger turbo amazeing car to drive luxury and fast in person seats and interior are stunning comfy

Interesting review, good to see a bit of diversity 👍, have done a few of these upgrades on my 7.5R to improve the performance and handling. . good effort Racingline, but just can’t get past the cheap looking silver plastic trim 🙈

Those racingline oil filler caps etc are nonsense though at like 80 quid a piece. You've got yourself like 400 quid worth of branded caps under the hood. Nice little touch of course, but at like a tenner a piece.
For some reason the video uploaded in 480p ? Once I changed settings I got it up to 1080p, BIG improvement.
Yes, it seems to upload SD first and then HD comes alive later. If you catch it really early there is no audio which when the comments say this is not good! (fixes itself quickly thankfully)

That ride would be a big no no to me. Roads on the North Yorkshire moors, where I live, would make it intolerable on a day to day basis

I wouldn't dream of tuning an S3 as your warranty is voided 18/20k for a new engine if it goes bang .
I have a 2019 S3 with 300bhp and its more than capable just wish it sounded better as the GPF's have killed the sound .
why would it go bang Racingline have zero engine failures even with their stage 3 kit producing over 490WHP/500BHP on this platform, with hundreds of kits sold worldwide. I myself have been running stage 1 for 1.5 years and stage 2 at 411BHP + for 4 months with zero issues and over 20k covered on my 8V S3 saloon with stage 3 booked up in jan!. its almost mad to leave it caged up, especially when you have to fight for that warranty claim nowadays with the dealers finding every excuse to not pay out. Its all down to personal preference nothing lasts forever, but if it lasts just long enough to bring you that added fun maybe its worth it. 0-60 in 3.25 seconds is mighty fun compared to stock ! and the supercar owners faces when your doing 100-200kmph in under 7 seconds that's priceless.

Don’t suppose you have any performance figures? 0-60 100-200 ect? Racingline haven’t actually released the tuning box yet.

That's interesting - I'm no fan of the new A3/S3, but that is certainly a worthwhile video. I've always thought that tuning a car like that is more suitable for older cars (eg, post warranty), as I would think that would invalidate the Audi warranty (the engine tuning part anyway).
Certainly makes the case against an RS3 - the Racingline springs with adaptive dampers would be an interesting comparison too. The wheels are smart & really do lift the look of the S3 (although personally, I think it looks far better as a Sportback though).
Definitely food for thought though - I'd be tempted to give Racingline a look once my golf is out of warranty (particularly the brakes)
Enjoying your reviews. Seem a very affordable and worthwhile set of mods. I suppose these shouldn't be applied to a car on a PCP.

@@derekporter66 Of course you can and before any warranty work in case of an over zealous warranty manager (I've met a few). What a hassle.
Although I'd be tempted to sell on the OEM brakes, suspension and wheels if the deal allowed it.

Think the previous gen looks better, but the upgrades made a massive difference to the standard car.
Old one is hard to fault but when you catch those rear arches at the right angle, you can't believe how broad they are, 8V is slab sided in comparison.
Needs a proper remap. Them boxes are pathetic

Just buy an RS3, tuning a new car will bollox your warranty and cost you more on insurance, plus no one will touch it come time to sell it. Best leave tuning and mods to the next owner. Easier to get the real deal from the showroom.
That is easier said than done. the price difference is massive. I wanted an RS3 here in Australia $103.000. a Golf R $60.000. $43.000 more.
so i purchased a brand new Golf R . remap APR carbon inlet and turbo neck. RS3 speeds for $3000. car never missed a beat.
this why i think VAG have made it hard to ECU tune them,
@@MrRonan3 mk8 golf r is even more than this again $65,000- $70,000+. The prices you've mentioned isnt even on road either (driveaway). I think you've made the right choice. Yes, I live in Australia too...😜😜

Why on earth buy a S3 and get the BHP up near the RS3??? I can understand people doing it to the Golf R as this is the range topping Golf but.... Just buy the RS3 for god sake!!! Very tempted to sell my Mk 8 R and get the new RS3.... Love your vids by the way, always informative and entertaining.
Almost £10K extra for RS3, S3 with mods only cost £1.5k, so Almost getting same performance with discreet look of S3, what's not to like?
Not everyone can afford an RS3. And the S3 is the gateway to the RS, plus u will never utilise the speed of the car unless you take it on track and how many people are going to do that🤔
The pre-facelift RS3 interior is dreadful, plus the car is old and out of warranty. At least with this S3 you get new looks, good interior, newer technology, warranty etc

Take your comment back about that tuned S3 being more exciting than a standard RS3 and I'll re-subscribe. LOL
I speak as I find but I know it's hard to maybe see where that came from. All I can say is that it doesn't need torque vectoring to get around a corner tidily because it doesn't have so much weight over the nose. Most of the best hot hatch and sports cars don't have torque vectoring so it's not a reason to put one over the other. Yes RS3 sounds better. Maybe it's the firm ride heightening the sense of speed and danger but that 2 minutes of driving was really exciting like I haven't had in a long time. Got RS3 saloon to test in January so we can pick this up then 👍

Low-mid 30’s is pretty achievable though. That EA888 engine is a gem. Obviously I’m speaking from a stock perspective so be interesting to see what mpg this tuned one returns
i can confirm you can get 40mpg on cruse at 70mph in eco mode on a stage 3... my 2015 S3 is 506bhp/ 589NM.... but in reality I average 26.4 motorways and 23.6 combined. As 70mph is a tad slow for the Bahn of course ;) i run shell 99 only.

There’s plenty of cars that are more powerful, or have been tuned in many marques etc etc, but claiming something that is a lesser model to start with and then modified is better? I don’t think so
That like claiming a 1960’s original Mini Cooper is rubbish compared to one somebody built yesterday with a Honda engine in it
Did I say it was better and not just more exciting? If I said "better" it was in reference to how exciting it was. It's easier to make a modified car more exciting than a factory one as so many rules and regs can be ignored. The RS3's fine ride quality took a lot of R&D but this S3's turbulent ride makes it really thrilling at slower speeds. Bad ride quality isn't necessarily good but by heck on that road is was bloody exciting trying to keep it on the right side of the road.
@@volkswizard well it can`t handle very well if an ex F1 driver found it "exciting" to keep it on the RIGHT side of the road , which is also the "CORRECT" side of the road to our "sedan" viewers🤠🤠
I'm not too sure on this one (Maveric 41) Racingline stage 3 kit on this platform is under £7.5K for 500bhp+ 600NM are they clowns or using ones brains, admittedly you cannot beat that 5cyl sound ! at the end of the day your paying for the badge. With those figures and Racinglines history of zero engine failures the S3 would eat an RS3 alive and leave nothing left, Mechanically the cars S3 Vs RS3 are very similar, the interiors are almost identical. 1 cylinder and slight suspension changes with an aluminium engine block in the newer RS3's that's all really.

A sedan, why o why, they are so ugly
I didn't ask but I suspect it's because Racingline sell a lot to Americas and Far East where the sedan is king and hot hatches are just seen as shopping cars. A premium hatchback just doesn't work in those markets.
I’d take the Sedan any day, I think the A3 sedan is the best looking in Audis range, proportions are just right to give it the edge over the A4/A6. Each to their own I guess.
